Baby Going for Heart Operation in 2024

Yesterday wife bring daughter to see heart doctor, he said next year have to plan for heart operation during school holidays, I didn't manage to go together because serving notice so cannot take leave, I no more leave anyway. Good thing wife told me can email the doctor because he shared his email, actually the doctor also asked me to email him a few times already but I keep forgetting about it, didn't really pay much attention because nothing firmed up yet, but now that I know 2024 will have heart operation so I emailed the doctor, asked if we can plan via email, he asked if it is ok to call me next month, I said ok. Hopefully can plan out everything via email or phone call because I still have a 3 months confirmation period at new job so can't take leave also. By the way wife also supposed to go for operation, she seen the surgeon last month but declined going for operation, said she feels healthy, well nobody can't force her, ultimately it's her decision, I can o

Daughter Went for CT Scan

I thought it's going to be an echo scan but turned out to be a CT Scan which is way more expensive, when the counter staff told me the price I shocked, S$604.08. I asked is it pay by cash and if there is any subsidy because my daughter is a Singaporean, the staff told me it is already the subsidised price. I then asked if can pay by Medisave, then another staff told me can but only partial, I think this other staff more experienced, the one who told me the price seems new, maybe can start with "do you have Medisave?" or "do you want to use Medisave?" because usually the other clinics if the staff knows the procedure can claim Medisave they will always ask first. So after Medisave, total paid S$304.05 via credit card. This is the breakdown before government subsidy: Contrast Agent - 50MI: S$124 CT Cardiac Paediatric S$1084.16 This is after subsidy: Contrast Agent - 50MI: S$62 CT Cardiac Paediatric S$542.08 Deduct from Medisave: -S$300 Payable (round down): S$304.

Daughter Went to See Heart Specialist

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/01/baby-might-need-operation-again.html Today went to see doctor, did ECG, got a flu vaccine, consultation. Doctor explained that the surgery is necessary but also need to observe because currently she is doing well so they can't just operate on her when she is well and risk making her unwell; operation have its risks. Doctor also said she might outgrow the condition since she is bigger and taller than most kids, ultimately need to go for regularly scan and continue to observe but doctor's preference is that the operation is done before she goes to secondary school. So just do a scan in Jun and see doctor again in Jul.

Baby Might Need Operation Again

Today went to see the cardiologist again, the finding is that there is an obstruction in her heart valve, the given term is "Sub-aortic obstruction after AVSD repair", it appears that there is a "keloid" causing the narrowing of a heart valve. Doctor say no rush to operate now, he will discuss with his surgeon/team and come up with a plan, probably might need to operate in the next 1-2 years, most probably open-heart surgery again. Me and wife are quite shocked, but baby doesn't seem too bothered, maybe because she is still young, she asked what happens during the operation, I told her after anaesthetic she won't feel anything. Anyway going to see the doctor again in May, by then the doctor will probably propose something. Poor baby, so young need to undergo two ops, thing is it's not a permanent fix and in her lifetime it might occur again, and then she will need to go for op again. Today's bill is S$36, only see doctor never do anything else.

Baby Seen Cardiologist Today

Image
The doctor in school called me up some time back during the school health visit and told me she heard some unusual sounds in baby's heart and recommended that we see a specialist, she asked me which centre I prefer so I told her NUH so she provided a referral letter to "Khoo Teck Puat - National University Children's Medical Institute". Today went to the centre, did Echo, ECG and the doctor spoke to us and said something about some hole narrowing and they need to study the Echo and ECH results and discuss with surgeon but in the meantime there is no immediate action required since baby is doing fine, can eat well and participate in PE lesson normally. The doctor also mentioned that we are supposed to be following up and come for yearly scan and that we missed 3-4 appointments, hmm somehow I had the impression that if nothing wrong with baby then no need to follow up, oh well, anyway need to go back again next month, good thing no need to do scan again, but it's du

Jun 2022 School Holiday Ending

Daughter will start school on 27 Jun, in case you are wondering, she is in P1. I think she had a good long break, even though we didn't manage to visit MIL, maybe Dec see how, but I think wife's passport will be expiring soon by then, so need to renew earlier. For the whole month, daughter play Roblox, watch TikTok, wife got her to practise Chinese reading and writing, there's also a Student Learning Space (SLS) from MOE, there are several online interactive homework, finished all the May and Jun ones, I see some are Apr and earlier, daughter says the teacher already covered those in computer class so I let her skip. Currently daughter can't speak or understand Mandarin, problem is at home we don't speak Mandarin, write she can only follow based on what her Chinese teacher taught her. I should really start speaking to her in Mandarin. Personally I think Mandarin is useful, but writing Chinese not so much, I can't remember when was the last time I wrote in Chines

Ordered Baby's P1 Textbooks

Image
The online ordering opened last weekend, so I went online to order the books. In total plus the delivery is S$184.80. Total have 52 items, I wonder if all these stuff will last throughout the year or only first half of the year. By the way the number in the bracket means quantity.

Received Letter from Baby's Primary School

Received a letter from the primary school with a whole bunch of things to prepare but I think I pretty much submitted whatever I can submit on Monday and put everything in calendar so I don't miss out anything. I have the list below if you are interested. Download Parents Gateway mobile app - after login via SingPass, it will auto-retrieve your child info. Purchase of textbooks and school uniform - both order online, for textbooks there will be a list of what to buy, for uniform just get ready a measuring tape. Both textbooks and uniform total is around S$300 for my daughter, not inclusive of the white shoes though, I think have to buy separately. School bus service - just register interest online, I suppose the bus operator will contact me later. 2-way is S$93 a month for my daughter. Student care centre - this is for needy families, can apply if need to. P1 orientation - it's a zoom session, so just wait for the day to come and login. Submit pupil data - it's an online fo

Primary 1 (P1) Registration for Baby

Glad that the P1 registration is fully online, now that we are in the 4IR era, manual processes should be digitalised and automated as much as possible. Looking at the MOE website , I thought the number of phases is too much and how students are segregated based on "fulfil at least one of the requirements for that phase" is kind of ridiculous. This part "registration phases apply to children who are Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents" also baffles me. I would think that Singaporean children should have utmost priority, but apparently that's not the case. The following is extracted from the website: Phase 1 You have an older child who is currently studying at your preferred school. Phase 2A(1) You are a former student of your preferred school, and have joined as a member of the alumni association not later than 30 June 2020. You are a member of the Advisory or Management Committee of your preferred school. Phase 2A(2) You or another child of yours have p

Ordered a 钓鱼英雄 Toy for Baby

Image
She saw this toy at a shop and took a photo, managed to find the exact one at Lazada, it's shipping from Taobao China, so probably going to take a while to receive. Total price is S$$20.39 including the delivery fee. My wife say the same toy is selling for S$30++ in Singapore, quite a difference if buy online. This is the link if you are interested:  https://www.lazada.sg/products/i1655986242-s7817824432.html

Baby iPad Mini Smashed

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2016/04/bought-ipad-mini-4-548-for-baby.html After 4 years and 3 months of torture, the iPad finally gave up, screen cracked already, cracks all over the body, can still see but the controls just randomly go off, quite unusable. Today went to Challenger to check out the tablets, thinking of getting a new iPad but wife wanted something cheap, so I asked for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8.0") but they are out of stock, so ended up buying the HUAWEI MediaPad T3 (KOB-L09) for S$218, it comes with a free casing which according to the salesperson retails for S$40, so the device itself is S$178 I suppose? Also bought a screen protector for S$18 at some random handphone shop. Total paid is S$236 . The KOB-L09 variant WIFI is 802.11b/g/n@2.4 GHz, so it cannot use 5.0 GHz. By the way after I bought it, I happened to notice the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8" selling for S$188 at Courts but not sure if it come with casing though, but I think after adding

Settled Baby's Kindergarten GIRO

The kindergarten only accept GIRO for the monthly school fees, and the GIRO application was rejected by OCBC, the rejection was because my signature was irregular, worse still cannot setup the GIRO through internet banking, seems like the option is not available for CDA, maybe because CDA is a special account unlike the usual deposit account so it also comes with more restrictions. Oh by the way, CDA must use signature, cannot use thumbprint. Then today deliberately took half day leave to go kindergarten to settle this matter once and for all, then the staff told me to better get a chop from OCBC, wah piang eh reach there then tell me, lucky the bank very near within walking distance, so I immediately walked to the bank, weather damn hot, smelly and sweaty in my office attire. So reached the bank, took a queue number, the staff took my ID card and the kindergarten GIRO application form which I already filled up and signed, they went to check for a while, finally asked me to

Registered Baby for Year 2020 K1

Image
Today went to register baby at PCF, have to go down to the centre of your choice to register, by the way today is the last day for Singaporean children, so if you haven't register might want to quickly go now. Anyway can call first to check if there is any vacancy so you don't make a wasted trip. You can get the contact and address of their centres at their website: http://www.pcf.org.sg Monthly fees is S$171.20, have to pay full 12 months for the year, even Jun and Nov/Dec holidays also need to pay. By the way I am eligible for the Kindergarten Fee Assistance Scheme (KiFAS), so probably can get S$30 off, so only pay S$141.20. It's best to prepare everything, go down fill up the form (quite a few pages, may need 15-20 mins) and be done for now, and wait for their phone call, still need to pay deposit. There's also some other fees, like buy uniform, the miscellaneous stuff like study material and whatnot, probably around S$1xx+. Following is a copy of the documen

Baby Completed Childhood Development Assessment

Childhood Immunisation & Development Assessment Schedule Today baby went for her childhood development assessment appointment at polyclinic, nurse said that this is the last one and no need to go back anymore, any follow-up will be through school. As for immunisation, she already completed all of the required vaccinations for her age, so also settled. Now baby is 4 years old, how time flies.

Look so happy lol.

Merries Diapers

I think Merries should be the most expensive brand of diapers I have seen so far, but for the price, the quality is there. We recently switched from Drypers Drypantz because it was too small for her, she is wearing XXL but the Drypers XXL and Merries XXL different in size, Merries is actually a bit bigger so it fits much better. Actually it is also because my daughter is bigger and fatter so need a bigger diaper. I also find that she runs through a bit less diapers after using Merries, think it is because it absorbs better and don't leak, the Drypers one don't absorb that well and always leak. Overall Merries is more costly, buy at Lazada 78 pieces S$52+, Drypantz 112 pieces $38+, quite a big difference.

Baby Fell and Hit Her Mouth

She was playing near my computer desk and suddenly she tripped and fell and started crying. Then wife noticed that baby's mouth was bleeding, the bleeding was from her upper lip and upper labial frenulum. I then examined her teeth, looks ok, only the labial frenulum tissue seems to be slightly torn, googled online most sources indicate that it's not a cause for concern and will heal by itself. Some people even had surgery to remove a frenulum if it is obstructing normal mouth functions. Sigh, small house so everything crammed together, I think because the bed was too close to the desk, she probably bounced and lost balance and hit the sharp corner of my desk. Hope I can get a bigger house so she can have her own room, now my flat only one bedroom so no choice she have to sleep with us.

Baby Urine Have Blood?

Yesterday after we started her antibiotics (augmentin 70ml bottle 2x/day) she started to have diarrhea, today wife noticed that there is a dark red brownish patch in her diapers, it led us to think that baby might have blood in her urine. So I quickly called the GP and we went straight down. After GP explained it could be due to the diarrhea causing the skin to be sensitive and not due to internal bleeding we were relieved. He also explained that for her weight of 23KG, 7ml twice a day is fine but she probably cannot tolerate due to her age, so he advised to lower down to 5ml twice a day. He also prescribed some probiotics to counter the effect of the antibiotics and also a cream to apply to the sensitive area. And he only charged for the medication never charge for consultation, nice doctor right.

Baby Went to See Doctor

Image
Baby has been coughing for a few weeks ever since wife brought her to Thailand last month , think she got infected from playing in the inflatable pool, not sure where the water is coming from but I guess it's not very clean, it could also be other source of infection, maybe also the drinking water but wife fed her only bottled water though, not sure what else baby put in her mouth, she has this habit licking things or placing objects into her mouth but good thing she doesn't swallow it or else she could end up suffocating. So this morning when I woke up she was still coughing so I got a bit worried and brought her to the Queenstown polyclinic, end up no slot, nowadays they go by slot in the system if full then must wait until afternoon, earliest slot was 2:30 PM so we decided to visit a GP instead. I googled and found this Chong Family Clinic , it has this unusual full 5 stars rating so of course no need to think too much, I made a call, got a slot and went there straigh

Seen Baby Specialist Today

Doctor thinks she is doing very well both in terms of development and her heart condition. Wife thinks hole not completely closed but just now clarified with doctor actually is closed, just that like any bodily wound it needs time to heal so the follow-up is mainly to check on her recovery. And since she is doing well, her follow-up interval has been changed to yearly instead of 6-monthly, so next appointment is next year. Today paid $115 after government subsidy.
