6 Weeks at New Job

For the 6 weeks, I just surf X, Reddit and check crypto like 90% of the time, the rest is some training, briefing, only today then they started officially assigning a case to me, like really just a single case, anyway I still haven't get my server access so have to share with others, a bit troublesome and also risk locking out other people's account if I'm not careful. Compared to my previous job, the workload here is much lower, simpler and organised, largely because they have the necessary processes in place and well-staffed teams so everybody plays a specific role, no such thing as wearing multiple hats. So far I'm liking this job, after working so many years in multi-hat environment, it's nice to find a job with specific scope, I think when young can chiong multi-hat to gain the experience, then older can work on something more specific and have more bandwidth to share the experience with younger people if they are willing and point them in the right direction s

10th Day at New Job

After starting work, there was some more onboarding stuff, took a while to go through, the major piece left should be server access, after that should be more or less there I guess. There are many systems talking to each other so need some time for my info and access to propagate but I guess that's just how MNCs have to operate, everything have to be digitalised, systemised and integrated so they can run global operations easily, beautiful thing is that everything is linked together and I can just login with single sign-on to access whatever I need anytime anywhere. There's also no such thing as physical signature, everything is digital signature, finally I don't have to print, sign and scan anymore. I also got my first pay and payslip, I wasn't aware that I needed to submit my bank details by myself until the payroll team alerted me, so I just sent them my bank details via email and they manually processed it, since the system doesn't allow editing bank details onc

First Day at Actual Workplace

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2024/01/first-day-at-new-company.html Today went to the actual workplace, indeed it is not as posh, just an open office space with desk and seat arrangement similar to those that one typically see in a call centre but my job is not taking call, they will route cases via a ticketing system and my job is to find out what is the issue, very focused role, no more bao sua bao hai. Starting nothing much for me and I don't have the access to the ticketing system or server yet, so I'm supposed to learn from another guy on existing issues, overall the culture seems very chill, everybody very chill, no particular dress code but seems like business casual is the norm, some even just wear t-shirt. Only thing is need to change pass to enter the area, have to be careful not to lose the pass and remember to return it before going home or leaving the site and the pass is for entry to specific areas only, cannot anyhow roam around. Travel to the workp

First Day at New Company

This is probably the coolest first day that I have ever experienced, maybe because it is an American MNC, their culture is more open I guess. Their office very nice sia, even got a Starbuck-ish cafe inside. I also noticed hardly anyone wear formal, guys are in t-shirt or polo then jeans or pants and sports shoes or covered shoes, gals in t-shirt then pants and covered shoes. But then that's only for collection of laptop, actual workplace is at somewhere else haha, probably not as posh. Reported at 10 AM to collect my laptop, it's just laptop and charger nothing else, no bag no mouse, the laptop setup process is pretty straightforward, I can see they are using a lot of modern tools. After that went home to do some security training, actually it's just a video of what not to do and sign a form that's it. Then they created a bunch of accounts for me, Gitlab, Jira and whatnot. Tomorrow will report to the actual workplace, about 1 hour+ trip from home, not too bad, have many

Finally Last Day

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2024/01/10-more-days-to-new-job.html Today is my last day at current company, tomorrow moving on to new role, new environment, meet new people, looking forward to it! Haha, really damn glad to be able to get out, phew, like a huge stone off my chest.

10 More Days to New Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/12/18-more-days-to-f-off.html Getting closer and closer! Today received the onboarding form for new company, the way they onboard got standard and systematic, they using ServiceNow employee onboarding, so just need to submit all the documents online.

18 More Days to F*** Off

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/12/background-check.html The background check seems to be ok, no complain or anything so far, to be sure I also dropped the recruiter a message to ask where do I report to on my first day, he told me they will email me one week before for onboarding, means should be good la. Now I just left 18 working days, really can't wait to quickly serve finish and get the hell out of there, that place getting more and more jia lat, I'm not the only one feeling sibeh pek chek, those that I close to just waiting for bonus only, the turnover rate is pretty high already, next year after bonus, probably even higher. Looking back really regret rejoining, sigh, should have taken the offer from "Interview 1", it's a big firm after all, I used to work at big firm so I'm more used to standards, SOPs and documentations, problem with SME is severe lack of the mentioned, everything is "cowboy style" and use imagination and mos

Background Check

My new employer engaged a vendor to do background check, so far they asked for quite a number of things, like my last 5 years of employment history, my education certs, reference contacts, CPF statements, payslips, letters of appointment, I think the purpose is to check to see if what I wrote in my resume is true or not, I guess it is pretty common to fake resumes. They do have an option for me to disallow contacting my current employer, but then for the past 5 years, for me it's the same employer just that I left the company once, so the employment period for the first time becomes the previous employment. Then yesterday the new employer HR contacted me and told me the background check vendor was unable to complete verification for my previous employment lol, probably because I disallow them from contacting my current employer and it happens to be the same company as my previous employment. End up I just send them my 5 years of CPF statements and both letters of appointment. By th

Can Offset Notice Using Annual Leave

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/current-company-makan-salary.html Today the HR looked for me again, this time told me offset my 3 days using annual leave, lol wtf, should be miscommunication la, don't think they will really so lame to makan my 3 days. So all is good now, they will pay me up to my last day, no deduction of salary since I use 3 days of annual leave to offset the 3 days short of notice period.

Current Company Makan Salary?

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/finally-throw-letter.html Today the HR looked for me, sort of told me my annual leave will be forfeited and no using of annual leave to offset my notice period, basically I still left with 3 days of annual leave, I serving notice but short of 3 days so I thought can use the leave to offset, then HR asked me if I'm ok with it, I just say I starting work at new job the very next day after my last day so no choice, I said just go ahead to process my resignation. After I reached home, I took a closer look at my contract, can't find anything about forfeiture of leave, I then looked in employee guideline document it did mention cannot take leave or offset notice period with annual leave but nowhere did it mention forfeiture of leave for my case, it also mentioned they will pay back unconsumed leave in following month after staff left, now that's conflicting from what the HR told me, not sure if there is any miscommunication. Bas

Finally Throw Letter

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/signed-letter-of-offer.html Today recruiter informed me that my G50 is cleared and I can proceed to tender my resignation. There was this background check that they initiated last week, I asked if it has been cleared as well, the recruiter told me it will move concurrently but most important is the G50 clearance. And since there is about a week's delay due to the G50 clearance, as per the letter of offer signed last week, if I tender today I would be short of 5 days for my notice period, I only left with 3 days leave, minus that I'm still short of 2 days, so I asked if I can move my start date 2 days later, recruiter managed to get approval and sent me a revised letter of offer, I read through seems to be the same except start date is 2 days later, so I e-signed and returned to the recruiter. After that looks like everything is in place, last day at current company and then the next day start at new company, no rest in between

Signed Letter of Offer

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/going-to-throw-letter-soon.html I got the letter of offer today via their system, went online and signed it, they also sent me the benefits package, looks like the usual stuff, nothing fantastic. This offer is pending the G50 clearance though, probably will know by next week, recruiter told me I can sign first and throw letter once G50 confirmed. Wait for one more week.

Going to Throw Letter Soon

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/new-job-99-secured.html The recruiter came back with the salary proposal, the confirmed salary is about 20.90% lesser than what I'm getting, still about S$350+ of what I'm expecting, which is still good albeit slightly lower, not an issue for me. I asked the recruiter when I should throw, he told me the only thing left is the G50 clearance, he will still proceed to send me the letter of offer by mid of next week since there is a long weekend, then told me to state that I will accept on the condition that the G50 is cleared and that my start date would be delayed due to the clearance so that I won't run the risk of throwing but G50 never clear. Today spoke with some colleagues, turns out I'm not the only one getting snapped at by this immediate supervisor, sounds like he is just going around being nasty to people, if he keeps this up, I think more people will throw letter, anyway soon to be not my problem anymore, now e

New Job 99% Secured

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/good-news-from-recruiter.html Today the recruiter called me to inform that he will proceed with the salary proposal, it's actually a pay cut of about 19.48% which I already told them that I'm fine with before we even started the interview so this part is not an issue, this reduced salary is actually still higher than what I expected by S$450+. They also have a 13th month bonus so I think it's still pretty good overall. I think the lower salary is justified because the scope of the new job is different but more systematic and specific, it even comes with training and mentorship. They are also using modern tools unlike my current company still using dinosaur technology, dinosaur mindset and non-value added implementations which creates more problems than solving problems. For my current job, pay is high, but with higher pay comes sky high expectations, to the extent of magical feats, like turning shit into gold, shit is shit

Good News from Recruiter

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/no-news-from-interview-yet.html Today the recruiter informed me that he got a really positive feedback from the hiring manager and I have been shortlisted for the position, see I knew it, feels good means come back good. And reason why it's just shortlisted is because they need to do some clearance, I think it's a government project so need G50 clearance, this part should be no problem since I've cleared many times already. His colleague emailed me to fill up some documents and to provide my pay slips and etc, by tomorrow I should be able to send back everything and then the company will issue a digital offer. All the best to me, getting closer to be able to throw letter lol, really looking forward to it sia, long time never so excited already.

No News from Interview Yet

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/11/interview-went-well.html Yesterday messaged the recruiter and told him that the interview went well, he happened to be on leave until next Monday, he told me he will get back to me again, nb I think gg already... sigh. With every passing day really hating this current job more and more, seriously sickening place lol, really a bad bad idea to rejoin sia.

Interview Went Well

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/10/confirmed-interview.html As expected, the interview went along smoothly, there were 3 interviewers, one guy is the GM, one is the deputy, another I think is a lead. Mainly is the GM asking questions, the other two guys didn't really asked much since the GM pretty much covered everything, whatever questions he threw at me, I answered smoothly ;) I think the job is 90% secured, just left the HR to call me about the package, I get the exact same positive vibes as the "Interview 1" from last year . Nice, feels really good about this, been a long time since I felt this rush of excitement, tbh I've been dead inside after rejoining my company last year, a word of advise again, what made you leave in the first place will still make you leave again.

Watch Out for Gaslighter at Workplace

Recently at work I keep getting blamed for getting things wrong even though I'm pretty sure I did my homework and exercised due diligence, to the point I don't even dare to say or do too much, now everything I just okok and follow instruction to the letter, but even so also will be blamed lol wtf, it's like go left die, go right also die, don't move still die, really smlj, how to work like that. Turns out there is actually a term for this nonsense, welcome to Gaslighting. https://www.betterup.com/blog/gaslighting-at-work So what is gaslighting? At its core, gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation. The gaslighter (the person doing the gaslighting) manipulates the gaslightee (the person being gaslighted) in a way that forces them to question their own version of events and even their own sanity. Gaslighting also happens in the workplace. For example, a boss who says they don’t remember you submitting a deliverable, even though you handed it to them a few hours

Confirmed Interview

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2023/10/looking-out-for-new-job.html Today got one recruiter called me, not those pure recruiter firms, this guy is actually the recruiter of his company which is an MNC, had a chat, went pretty well, he told me that my profile seems to fit what he was looking for, asked a bunch of question, then he said he will forward my profile to his hiring manager. I had a good feeling about this, this kind of thing when you talk you will know whether it is a good match or not. And not too long after the call, his colleague sent a virtual interview invite, damn that was fast, next week interview, hopefully can get it and throw letter lol. My company really getting from bad to worse, a lot of people throw letter already, then today my immediate supervisor flare up at me for no good reason, if it is truly my fault I nothing to complain, but today one is not my mistake, I simply takeover someone's shit but the expectation is for me to perform magic, wel

Looking Out for New Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/monday-sign-letter-of-offer.html So it has been slightly more than a year since rejoining my company, thought I should give an update. I want to give a very important word of advise, if you want to rejoin your company, think very carefully, the reason(s) that made you leave in the first place most likely will not go away, unless it's a people problem, for example a particular supervisor keep finding fault with you, then after that the boss call you to rejoin and told you this annoying guy no longer around, this actually happened to me in an earlier position, I went back and worked for a solid 8+ years. This time round, not a people problem, it's a gross lack of fulfilment, I find the things I do very meaningless, it's always cleaning somebody's shit, so bloody frustrating, now I know why my boss asked me to rejoin, because most of the projects burning or in a big pile of mess, not enough people to clear shit, feels lik
