Baby Seen Cardiologist Today

Image
The doctor in school called me up some time back during the school health visit and told me she heard some unusual sounds in baby's heart and recommended that we see a specialist, she asked me which centre I prefer so I told her NUH so she provided a referral letter to "Khoo Teck Puat - National University Children's Medical Institute". Today went to the centre, did Echo, ECG and the doctor spoke to us and said something about some hole narrowing and they need to study the Echo and ECH results and discuss with surgeon but in the meantime there is no immediate action required since baby is doing fine, can eat well and participate in PE lesson normally. The doctor also mentioned that we are supposed to be following up and come for yearly scan and that we missed 3-4 appointments, hmm somehow I had the impression that if nothing wrong with baby then no need to follow up, oh well, anyway need to go back again next month, good thing no need to do scan again, but it's du

SG Arrival Card (SGAC)

Wife and daughter came home yesterday, everything was smooth until the Changi Airport clearance where the ICA counter asked for this SGAC, have to submit before they will let you through. Submission is easy, it's just a declaration, need to submit for each traveler so I submitted for my wife and daughter, all in less than 5 minutes, after that they try again and managed to get through. So before you reach Changi Airport, submit first to save the trouble later. https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-transit-depart/entering-singapore/sg-arrival-card Anyway wife and daughter landed at T4, there really nothing much, looks like a clone of T3, hardly any shops outside, and many of the shops are closed, lucky still have a Cheers.

Coming to The End of 2022

Wow, how time flies man, so fast 2022 going to finish, faster finish also good la, this year really terrible, so many bad things happen, I thought after Singapore government relax Covid rules things will get better but globally so many shit happen, the one which everybody can feel is the inflation, prices across the board shoot up. Next year don't know what other shit will happen, not so much about Singapore but globally, so far seems like US inflation is coming down, they probably going to start slowing down on the rate hike which means people will slowly start spending rather than saving, then China seems to have abandoned the zero Covid policy which is good because their cities will start to open up more, production and spending will slowly return. Then the Russia-Ukraine war I lost track already, like never going to end, as every country start to adjust, nobody is going to give a shit about the war anymore, Russia can become North Korea and isolate from the world if they want.

This Bloody FTX

Looks like the entire crypto market is still very cautious and reeling back from the FTX collapse, just checked  coinmarketcap.com , the total market cap is around US$795B, compared to two weeks ago it was around US$1.02T, roughly US$225B wiped out. Now my portfolio looks sibeh jia lat lol, down by about 75%, really sian half, but I still have confidence in Bitcoin and Ethereum, I actually read the whitepapers and also took some courses, so I know these two confirm will make it. As for exchanges, personally I use Crypto.com , kns hope they don't collapse, nowadays very hard to say, anything can just collapse in a matter of days, but so far they seem pretty stable, their CEO also did a nice AMA  addressing quite a number of key concerns, I also hold their CRO tokens because I find that it has several utility and is the native token i.e. fuel of two blockchains namely Cronos and Crypto.org, they also promised a Proof of Reserve Audit in coming weeks to show that they indeed hold cust

Temasek Holdings Lost US$275M on FTX Collapse

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/ftx-cryptocurrency-exchange-temasek-write-down-investment-275-million-3079086 Wow, even Temasek Holdings also kena burned, but US$275M peanuts la, not their money anyway, but might as well give every Singaporean better, better than throw into a blackhole, still want to increase GST and public transport fares, power sia, I wonder what the leadership of Temasek Holdings have to say to Singaporeans, or nothing to say. Anyway after the collapse, everybody started to dig out all the dirt on Sam Bankman-Fried and his partners in crime, even I also curious who the heck this guy is, to be honest I have never even hear his speech or anything, went to google his interviews, he sounds like a gin na, a bit like Donald Duck, cannot imagine how this gin na managed to convince all the big names to invest in his ponzi scheme, names like BlackRock. Knn, back in May I still thought of signing up for an FTX account, but lucky didn't sign up because I can'

So Much FUD on Crypto.com

Image
Over the weekend suddenly so much FUD generated on Crypto.com, knn I thought what happened, somebody questioned why Crypto.com accidentally sent 320,000 Ether to Gate.io, after that all sorts of rumours and speculations followed on Twitter and $CRO price tanked to around US$0.0552, it all started from this tweet if I'm not wrong: Anyone know why https://t.co/2vZHyCaKNe would send 320k ETH (82% of their ETH today) to https://t.co/bVgf3bCqwp on October 21? pic.twitter.com/2E1NxX1pJz — Conor (@jconorgrogan) November 12, 2022 After that I did some checks, seems like from "Crypto.com 5" wallet they sent 320,000 Ether to following wallet, which seems to be Crypto.com's corporate account on Gate.io: https://etherscan.io/tx/0xb426efda7525776e856b414c87ec0d7859e9bccafe727c174c7b51ed7ada6bee Then it probably went into Gate.io's cold wallet for safekeeping: https://etherscan.io/tx/0x016465d2b583bd9c36c24840d966aa3e8c7a9f2fc92ecc5c00a1fe40075e5752 A few days later, Gate.io

Temasek Holdings Invested in FTX

https://www.forbes.com/sites/chasewithorn/2022/11/10/exclusive-these-investors-stand-to-lose-the-most-from-ftxs-implosion/?sh=6cc6c4862670 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temasek_Holdings Hmm, estimated US$205 million gone, so it's around SG$281 million... it's a huge amount for me but compared to Temasek's SG$403 billion portfolio, it's just 0.05%. This damn FTX, hai si so many people. TEMASEK Stake in FTX: 1% Est. amount invested: $205 million Value at January 2022 peak: $320 million An investment company owned by the government of Singapore, Temasek is the second-largest outside investor on the capitalization table, with 7 million shares. The $297 billion (assets) business, which owns big stakes in Singapore’s DBS Group and Singapore Airlines, invested in all three of FTX’s major funding rounds. With its $320 million stake on the brink of being worthless, a Temasek spokesperson told Reuters on Wednesday that they were “aware of the developments” and were “engaging FTX

FTX Filed for Bankruptcy

Sam Bankman-Fried steps down as CEO, FTX filed for bankruptcy, wow, all in one week: Press Release pic.twitter.com/rgxq3QSBqm — FTX (@FTX_Official) November 11, 2022 A clarification tweet: Press Release: Clarification on Certain Entities Not Included in Chapter 11 Filings. pic.twitter.com/rxmY2f2iTB — FTX (@FTX_Official) November 12, 2022 Hmm, I'm wondering what holders of FTT tokens can do, with FTX going down, will it become another worthless token, at least LUNA and LUNA 2.0 have their own blockchains but interest is wavering, I mean after that crash, I doubt many people will be building on it, why use their blockchain when there are plenty out there which are way more popular and stable.

FTX Token Brings Down Entire Crypto Market

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/11/ftx-token-tanked.html After yesterday's post, this morning I woke up and saw the token trading at around US$5, wah seh, like around 3/4 of the value got wiped out within 24 hours. Then CZ of Binance said they signed a non-binding letter of intent to fully acquire FTX and they will conduct a full due diligence in coming days. What a rapid turn of events, even worse than UST/LUNA, at least they took 3-4 days to collapse, this FTX within one day 3/4 of value gone just like that. I wonder who have huge exposure to FTX, sure kena flushed out. This afternoon, FTX asked for our help. There is a significant liquidity crunch. To protect users, we signed a non-binding LOI, intending to fully acquire https://t.co/BGtFlCmLXB and help cover the liquidity crunch. We will be conducting a full DD in the coming days. — CZ 🔶 Binance (@cz_binance) November 8, 2022

FTX Token Tanked

Today the price suddenly fell from US$22 to around US$15+, damn scary, reminds me of LUNA and UST but hope it doesn't turn out that way. Can read more about the story here:  https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2022/11/08/ftt-plummets-as-market-fears-possible-alameda-contagion In crypto things happen damn fast, one minute FTX is the kid with the shiniest toy, next minute kena trashed until upside down. I see this FTX and the Sam Bankman-Fried machiam have unlimited money, then now suddenly have rumours of insolvency all over Twitter, and what printing money out of thin air via their FTT token. Anyway the FTT price now recovered to around US$17, at least it didn't death spiral to 0, hope not another collapse. Bitcoin and Ethereum still the best, most solid. Crypto.com's CRO token also not bad I think, so far they seem very prudent, which is a good thing, but a lot of people complaining about their various sponsorships haha.

Popeyes Delivery Sucks

Me and wife was craving for some fried chicken but don't feel like eating KFC, so decided to try Popeyes delivery. They don't have foodpanda or deliveroo for our area so had to order via the Zeoniq platform, quite easy to use though. Ordered the sour cream chicken and spicy chicken savers set, comes with a large mash potato and a garlic rice. Also ordered a large coleslaw and a large cheese fries for daughter. End up the coleslaw is missing from the delivery, and the fries came without any cheese, good thing daughter not disappointed, I think just fries she happy. Called the store and the staff had the cheek to tell me to go down any day to collect, seriously wtf, then I might as well just go buy the whole thing instead of delivery right, don't know the staff trying to be funny or what. Then I tried to submit a feedback via their contact us page, it kind of bugged out, seriously. I go to their Twitter account, looks dead. Then they have Facebook, seems more active but I don

Happy Deepavali!

It's coming to end of the year again, Deepavali also happen to fall on Monday so it's a long weekend, nice, can relax at home haha. Then Christmas and New Year both fall on Sunday, so following Monday is a holiday, power! 2023 also good, got quite a few long weekends, most power is the Chinese New Year, 5 days of break. Anyway current job still alright, probably going to stay here for quite some time, plenty of new things to play with but so far haven't gone overseas yet, stars didn't align haha. Stay safe all and enjoy this long weekend!

Prime Video - The Lord Of The Rings - The Rings Of Power

Image
Recently I resubscribed to Amazon Prime and happened to see this new series, it's pretty good, I normally don't like TV series because they are kind of draggy but this one is alright. The main star of the show seems to be Galadriel played by Morfydd Clark (more feet?). Compared to the one played by Cate Blanchett in the main LOTR movies, I think this one is the younger version whereas the other is the lao jiao version, the other feels more powerful. Now the season 1 finished yesterday, I wonder when the next season will start, maybe can go watch the whole LOTR movies again lol, don't know watch how many times already, it's the kind of movies that you have to revisit every few months or years, it's that good.

Mass Murder at Thai Nursery

Image
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/asia/thailand-mass-shooting-childcare-centre-gunman-killed-himself-former-policeman-2991456 Wah this is really extreme wtf, young kids he also murder, I read from other sources the kids around 2-5 years, and he stabbed them to death, like wtf man, what is going on in his mind... I keep imagining what might happen if my daughter is in the nursery at that time, although she is staying in Singapore, also I keep imagining what kids of 2-5 years old will be thinking when they see this f***** coming to them with a knife, so terrible... There should be at least one armed guard at every school, this kind of tragedy must never happen again.

Update on "URAH Bone Health plus Bio-Calcium and Omega-3" After 3 Weeks

My knee is feeling normal again, no more weird feeling or clicking joint, I think it got better after I followed the instructions to apply more, another thing is other than applying on the knee cap, I also applied behind the knee cap because I felt a little lump behind, not sure if it was swollen or what, now can't really feel it anymore. Now I'm back to being able to climb two steps of stairs at one go, previously if I tried to do that, I can feel that weird feeling like my knee is going to detach, now my knee feels more solid. I think anyone with knee issues should really try this cream, just apply it according to instructions will do, just don't under-apply like me haha.

Wife's Flight Rescheduled

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/10/bought-air-tickets-for-wife-and-baby.html Her Bangkok to Udon Thani's flight got rescheduled, so instead of waiting 3 hours 35 minutes at Don Mueang, now she only need to wait 2 hours and 25 minutes, not too rush and not too drag. Now thinking about it, good thing I booked the whole trip via one site, I suppose any change will be managed by the operator i.e. AirAsia, imagine I go book separately and book too close, timing bring forward then probably rush like mad and may even miss the second flight.

Bought Air Tickets for Wife and Baby

Image
Last Sunday bought the air tickets at AirAsia website for a total of S$429.10, didn't buy for myself because wife wanted to go for a month, I cannot go for so long, don't have the leave anyway since I rejoined the company in Jul, by the time I get my leave after 3 months it will be pro-rated, at most I will have 5-6 days I guess. By the way first 3 months I cannot take any leave. I think there's a 1% surcharge for buying the tickets, I paid by credit card and checked my statement today, the final amount is S$433.39, weird thing it's not reflected in the invoice, I also don't remember seeing any note about a surcharge, no idea what the 1% is for but then it's not a big deal. Wife and baby will fly to Don Mueang via Thai Lion Air, wait about 3 hours 35 minutes then fly to Udon Thani via Thai AirAsia, in case you are wondering, it's all in one single booking via AirAsia all for S$433.39, these days so convenient. The check-in luggage price also increase, I don&

Started Jogging Again

After applying the URAH cream for two weeks, today I resumed my jogging routine, able to complete the usual rounds plus walk one more round. I think I am applying too little of the cream, I see the ads those people applying more than me. So far feels better but sometimes still feel knee ache especially after sitting for too long, aiyoh really getting old haha, 39 years old feel like old man, jia lat, must work out more.

Left Knee Seems to Feel Better

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/09/left-knee-feeling-weird.html I've been applying the "URAH Bone Health plus Bio-Calcium and Omega-3" for a week now, can feel some difference, no more weird clicking in the knee, jumping and jogging feels alright but when jogging felt a bit of new sensation which is not painful but odd, felt like hair standing so weird, so end up I decided not to jog for now and just walk, but overall my knee does feel better. I keep having the idea that jogging will hurt the knees, but after researching online, that does not seem to be true. Anyway wife's mother also have knee pain, if December can go Thailand, will some for her.

Left Knee Feeling Weird

My left knee has been feeling weird for quite some time, I think it's because of sitting down for long period of time, can feel the joint clicking, was made worse when I went to play badminton, all that jumping and stretching was kind of too much. Then last Saturday morning went for a walk of around 2.8 KM, after that feel some swelling but from outside can't see. After that I was thinking of getting Glucosamine to eat, then I remembered last time when my mother knee ache, I bought the URAH cream for her, after that I think she got better. So I went to Watsons and bought this "URAH Bone Health plus Bio-Calcium and Omega-3", applied from Saturday until now around 3 days, seems to feel better, don't know real or not, one cream so powerful, monitor for this week see how. By the way now Watsons selling one tube for S$28.

Ichiban Sushi, Always Good!

The tuna and egg inari sushi are really good. For the tendon, can't tell what is what but taste really good anyway haha.

Cannabis Legal in Thailand

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/thailand-travel-weed-legal-cannabis-cnb-singapore-shanmugam-2915951 Long time never post, but when I see this news, wah seh what the heck, Thailand not just open up they even legalise Cannabis. Cannabis also known as Marijuana, long long ago more than 20 over years ago my friend let me try a bit, can't remember the feeling but I remember it makes people happy or smile a lot, no idea how they even smuggle into Singapore. "If there is clear evidence of current use of drugs, Singapore authorities will take action, regardless of whether the consumption was in Singapore or overseas , the minister said in a Facebook post earlier on Thursday about national swimmers Joseph Schooling and Amanda Lim." Maybe if I was younger, I would probably travel there to smoke lol, but now, nah, now that I think of it, in my wife's hometown, they put Cannabis in chicken soup and eat as if it is vegetable. All the getting high aside, I think Cannabis

Kudos to RoyalCDKeys

Yesterday my PC was behaving strangely, I was doing nothing and the CPU fans started to spin and CPU utilisation went up significantly, funny thing is when I opened the task manager, it stopped, I close task manager, fans started spinning again, I tried a few times and even restarted PC also same behaviour, damn fishy sia. To play safe, I backup my data and then reinstalled my OS, after that it was back to normal, probably some bad programs doing something naughty, well I did install a lot of weird stuff so not very surprising haha. After reinstallation, everything works except my Office 2019, getting invalid key error when I try to activate it. https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/10/bought-microsoft-office-2019.html I emailed the RoyalCDKeys support, didn't expect them to respond so fast, they told me that when reinstalling Windows I should uninstall the Office first otherwise I won't be able to activate using the same key, and they gave me a replacement key and i

8th Day of Going Back to Work

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/back-to-work.html So far everything seems to be great, but have a feeling my current supervisor a bit not happy because my headcount is under this supervisor's department but I'm currently helping out another project in another department. And I tend to be quite serious at work so people who have not worked with me might not be used to it and think I'm anti-social haha. Also never join the department for lunch, so far only lunch with ex-project members from other departments, aiyah but I think all these small matters, in future if get to work closer then can lunch together, they surely have their own lunch kakis anyway. Today a guy from this "another department" told me this month end or maybe early next month have to travel overseas, I think good chance to go out and gain more experience, it will be my first overseas assignment, feel a bit sua ku, but still don't know go there do what or go how long.

Back to Work

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/monday-sign-letter-of-offer.html I rejoined my ex-company this week, feel as if never left, it's as if I just came back from a long weekend, obvious difference is have to start all over again in terms of year(s) of service and bonus/leave pro-rated but that doesn't bother me at all. But I'm quite surprised that colleagues are all very nice and welcoming especially the bosses are super nice, I guess the good thing about this company is the people, which I think is very important, not much internal politics, mostly external politics. Now I'm under another supervisor but same big boss, cool, easy-going, doesn't put on airs or anything, previous one was equally good too, people are nice in this company, just the customers sometimes overbearing, and the projects too jia lat, but I heard my past projects are doing better now, maybe it's because I left lol. And now that Covid is kind of endemic in Singapore, a lot of

Sheng Siong have Very Impressive Employee Benefits

Image
Saw their recruitment poster last weekend and I was very impressed by their employee benefits, so much so I took a photo of it. Note that the salary is "Up To", not sure what's the salary for inexperienced folks though. Just looking at bonus, they have 4 types of bonus, Variable, Performance, AWS and Monthly, still got Monthly bonus, first time I see this bonus. The staff discount is very interesting, I wonder how much or how many percent, any cap or not. I remember long long ago I worked at NTUC Fairprice also got staff discount, maybe like 15 or 16 years ago, just part-time only. I think it was quite a small percentage, so small I didn't even realise until someone told me staff have discount, then I see like no difference or too little to notice. Meals provided, this one power, these days one meal outside getting more expensive unless someone can cook at home for you and bring to work. Birthday voucher, interesting, I know of birthday leave, first time I see birthda

Kurt Tay vs Loh Jia Hung at Void Deck

Image
https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/wrestling-champion-kurt-tay-accepts-strangers-challenge-fight-void-deck-now-under-police Actually Kurt Tay is same gang as me, Singaporean with foreign spouse. His wife is from Vietnam, now holding PR and they have a son and a daughter. I watch his YouTube videos sometimes, his videos are quite unusual, but so far I see he's just doing his own stuff and not disturbing anyone. Some of the comments can get very nasty, not sure why some people find enjoyment disturbing him. I think this led to the fight: "Speaking to AsiaOne, Tay said that Loh had been repeatedly taunting him and challenging him to a fight. " I found Loh Jia Hung's profile on Linkedin, he is a student at Republic Polytechnic, I see under his "Skills", clearly he is physically very skillful: I also found Kurt Tay's profile on Linkedin, by the name of "Tay Foo Wei", clearly he doesn't have any of those skills that Loh have. So why would a young

Monday Sign Letter of Offer

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/22nd-day-of-looking-for-job.html Tomorrow late afternoon go office sign the letter of offer from my ex-company, so fast so furious, this ex-boss damn powerful, say offer really offer the next day; met him on Thursday night, then Friday afternoon the HR called me to confirm the offer, sent me email and I acknowledged via email. No need interview, no need probation, only first 3 months take leave will be counted as no-pay leave, pay a bit higher than before, other than that the benefits all same as before, pretty good I guess. The HR will most probably ask me when I can start work, actually I can start anytime, rest too long also starting to get a bit bo liao.

22nd Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/20th-day-of-looking-for-job.html Yesterday went for the second interview for "Interview 1". It went well. A few hours later while on the way to meet my ex-boss, the recruiter called me to confirm that it is positive, and also the HR of the company will contact me soon, ask for my certs and whatnot, then they will make an offer. I told the recruiter I meeting my ex-boss for dinner, maybe he interested to rehire me, she told me if ex-boss offer, don't accept too fast, compare "Interview 1" vs ex-boss offer. Went for dinner with ex-boss, turned out to be 2 hours Omakase dinner, catch up, talk about new trends, some history, pointed out my strength and weakness, discuss why I left, what will happen if I rejoin, overseas assignment, at the same time crafting and polishing the offer on the spot and asked me how much I want lol. I thought he should be asking what is my expected salary like every other recruiter, I a b

20th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/19th-day-of-looking-for-job.html Due to the very bad Glassdoor reviews on the company of "Interview 2", I went to LinkedIn to search for the company, LinkedIn have this feature where it will show the current and past employees, and one of the past employees happen to be someone I know and get along pretty well from my previous company. So I messaged this ex-colleague to find out more about the company, this ex-colleague told me the company in a mess now don't try. That explains why the Glassdoor reviews are so bad. Not that every other company don't have its fair share of bad reviews but this one is particularly glaring, I actually got a bit frightened. After that we chatted a bit more, then this ex-colleague happen to have a position for me, and it's something that interests me, so I thought no harm trying. Then this ex-colleague went to speak to my ex-boss, the one who gave me a huge increment out of nowhere,

19th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/15th-day-of-looking-for-job.html Yesterday I went for the "Interview 2", the guy called me up and scheduled a session. He was nice to take the time to explain how their organisation is structured, I think he is looking for someone to help his company do a transformation to keep up with current methodologies so that they can provide faster and cheaper service, told him I'm not suitable as I don't have that kind of experience, it sounded like a huge undertaking like a director level kind of job but I don't think he is going to pay me director level salary, it's way above my head. I must concede that looking for job is no joke, when I was holding a job, I thought looking for job is easy as pie, but the reality is totally different, it's actually quite stressful. Back in Apr, May and Jun very carefree, but when my brain switch to "looking for job" mode in Jul, the stress and self-doubt started to se

Thermal Throttling on 3060Ti

Image
Recently I noticed that my mouse cursor will lag a bit, and when I run Dota 2, and when there is too much activity on screen, it will crash to desktop. I thought a 1050 or 1060 would be able to easily run Dota 2, not to mention 3060Ti. Oh by the way it's the first time I try Dota 2, I actually played a lot of Dota 1 back in the day. Today I flipped over my CPU casing and saw a thick layer of dust at the bottom. I thought I cleaned it a couple of months ago, didn't expect the dust to accumulate so fast, I think every month have to clean once, where the heck did all the dust come from anyway.

15th Day of Looking for Job

Today went for 3 virtual interviews, even though virtual also damn shag, have to repeat the same thing lol. Interview 1 This one went pretty well, I think this one have chance because the job scope seems to be very suitable for me. The interviewers also very nice and started on time. This one is one of the biggest company in Singapore, I like this one. Interview 2 This guy made me wait for 11 minutes, when he finally came in, he said he got caught up with another meeting, then asked for my mobile number and said he will call me on Monday. I go google the company name and the Glassdoor reviews are very bad, probably not going to take this even if they offer. Interview 3 This one went quite awkward like the first Java developer role, I'm not suitable for the job, it's one of the earlier role that I applied but after that u-turn decided not to apply anymore because I think my coding not up to par, didn't expect them to grant an interview, but the interviewers are very nice tho

Completed All Python Tutorials

https://www.w3schools.com/python/default.asp I covered all the modules, have a good idea of what Python can do, the machine learning part too confusing for me so I just quickly go through. The Python MySQL is straightforward, just like plain old JDBC connection in Java. The Python MongoDB is quite straightforward, only difference is that MongoDB is a NoSQL database, rather than tables and rows in tabular form they call it collections and documents that comes in a form similar to JSON. Today I be taking a good rest for the 3 interviews tomorrow, after that maybe starting reading up on React, it's another popular thing that keeps popping up.

Finished Django Tutorial

https://www.w3schools.com/django/index.php "Django is a back-end server side web framework. Django is free, open source and written in Python. Django makes it easier to build web pages using Python." Django reminds me of JSP, JSTL and JPA, but more simpler to use and get it running, no wonder Python is so popular, I'm starting to like Python.

13th Day of Looking for Job

I must say looking for job also quite tiring, everyday check for suitable position and then apply, also have to handle the job recruiters who call to enquire, have to repeat the same thing because every time it is a different recruiter. Right now have 3 interviews scheduled for this Friday back-to-back, another 1 interview next week. I noticed that the recruiters mostly from overseas, Singapore afternoon time they greeted me good morning, mostly sounded like from India, sometimes a bit hard to understand their slang, India time is 2.5 hours slower than ours. I guess these days recruiters all outsourced overseas? Long long ago when I go through recruitment agency, it was a local recruitment company, have to go to their office to interview, after that go to the client's office to interview again. Recruiters seems to be a very competitive job, sibeh on, machiam like telemarketer, I guess they chiong for the commission, I know they get a cut for successful hire, not sure how much thoug

Typical Singapore Family Problem

https://theindependent.sg/woman-gives-mum-1600-monthly-but-mum-says-its-not-enough-complains-daughter-refuses-to-let-her-mum-retire https://www.whispers.sg/c/sgwhispers/posts/5342 The story first appeared in my Google news feed via The Independent Singapore, I also found the original publication at SGWhispers. I read this story with great interest because it reminded me of my own experience, how come as kids we are so happy and carefree, then after we grow up, things can change so drastically, family can be at each other's throat because of money. It's so difficult to say what is right and what is wrong, some can argue it's the parents responsibility to take care of children without expecting anything in return, or some can argue it should be the other way round, ultimately who is right? If you try to be "fair", then what is fair? Some may interpret it as "calculative", for example utilities bill is $200 a month, you have 4 "headcount" in the h

12th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/looking-for-job.html During these 12 days, got plenty of calls from recruiters but only one interview. I posted my profile on MyCareersFuture, JobStreet, Indeed, Monster, also tried directly on a few company's career portal, thought I should cast a wide net. Last week I attended a Java developer lead virtual interview, did the technical assessment where they asked me to come up with a Spring Boot app based on a given scenario, I really struggled even translating the requirements into code and also realised my coding is quite bad, do refresher online versus coming up with an app is very different. By the way all the development work in my past projects were outsourced to overseas, basically I document the requirements from users and then I get developers to implement, so I don't get to code much, yeah I done some bug fixes and some small enhancements but it is nothing compared to coming up with something from scratch. I think i

Finished Pandas Tutorial

Image
Finally finished the Pandas tutorial and got a 92% for the quiz. This Pandas library is very simple and powerful for reading and analysing data files, can also clean and manipulate data files, also can use the Matplotlib library to plot data files. I think this will come in handy one day, now I can start to see why Python is so popular.

NS55 Credits SG$100 - Withdraw via ShopeePay

Last Monday 4th Jul I received the SMS from "NS Portal" saying SG$100 credited to LifeSG mobile app so I checked and found that I can use it at Sheng Siong, just nice I always do my groceries there. I thought it would be similar to the last time when they disbursed the NS50 SG$100 physical vouchers, like if I buy total $120, $100 pay by the vouchers, then remaining $20 pay by credit card (or cash or NETS). Boy was I wrong. Me, wife and daughter went to Sheng Siong and happily bought so many things, came up to $160.70, I asked the cashier can use the NS55 voucher or not she say can, but cannot exceed, must be less than $100, lol wtf, end up I paid by credit card, long queue behind so I also paiseh to ask too much. Then another staff told me I can withdraw cash from their Sheng Siong ATM, but can only withdraw $90, there will be a $0.20 charge, actually I saw this in the news also:  https://www.asiaone.com/lifestyle/legit-man-shares-hack-how-redeem-ns55-credits-cash-sheng-sion

Thinking of Attending Thai Lessons

Image
I have $1000 in SkillsFuture credits, I'm thinking of attending proper Thai lessons so I searched for courses at MySkillsFuture website and found a ton of Thai courses. After going over for some time I realised there are Elementary/Basic, Intermediate and Advanced levels, and NUS also offers Thai language course and they go by Levels 1 to 9, something like the "Nine Swords of Dugu" , but NUS more expensive, one course $600, you attend all $5,400, my $1,000 where got enough, at most can take one. For the non-NUS ones, I think maybe can take 4-5 courses. So I focused on this "SkillsFuture@PA Reading and Writing Thai Language Elementary (Stage 1)" and it has multiple training partners, so I choose the one nearest to my home and it redirected me to onePA website which does nothing, meaning I have to manually search for the course within onePA. And the search results are quite staggering and irrelevant. So I tried again with "Thai Language", still didn'

Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/06/no-news-from-binance.html Today is 1st of July, still no news from Binance, no point waiting. Yesterday night I turned on my Jobstreet profile and also my profile on MyCareersFuture.gov.sg so that employers can search for my profile. Anyway I applied for a few jobs on MyCareersFuture, see how it goes.

$CRO Appeared for No Reason

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/06/won-9422996747-cro.html Hmm, I just checked my Crypto.com exchange wallet, 142++ $CRO appeared out of nowhere, I checked transaction history but didn't find anything. Now that I recall, last month also same, cannot find anything in transaction history and I thought it could be from the trading competition or a mistake, but doesn't seem to be a mistake because they didn't revert, or maybe it is some sort of silent monthly reward just for trading in the exchange? I did make quite a number of trades in May and Jun, but it's not as much as earlier months though, they didn't silently reward me for the earlier months haha. Anyway, I'll just leave it there for 1-2 days, see if they revert, if no, then I'll just take it.

Finished NumPy Tutorial

Just finished the NumPy tutorial and got an 84% for the quiz. Not bad. By the way NumPy means Numerical Python, it is one of the many Python libraries.

No News from Binance

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/06/applied-for-job-at-binance.html I applied for a job at Binance two days ago, still no news yet, hmm, I think maybe because they are such a huge organisation so they probably have tons and tons of applicants, or maybe they don't need my skillset haha. Well they did mention "Please note we aren't able to respond to all applications." in the email. I'm thinking if tomorrow still no news, maybe just turn on my Jobstreet profile and let the recruiters help me look for job, so many companies and positions I also don't know where to start but I do know the recruiters are pretty on the ball, I believe they get a commission for every successful hire.

45 Years Jail

https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/record-45-years-jail-paedophile-raped-8-children-1933611 "Two of his eight victims were only five years old when he began raping them. This typically took place in their own homes, his home or in public locations such as toilet cubicles in malls." Wah seh, first time I see 45 years jail in Singapore, but after reading the whole article, I think it's a waste of taxpayer money to feed him for 45 years, just hang this bastard. This guy really scum of the earth, preying on 5 year old kids, wtf.

Sad Story of Difficult to Get Along

https://tnp.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/grandfather-84-and-granddaughter-14-found-dead-bukit-batok "...the girl was a Secondary 2 student who lived with her parents and grandfather." Somehow I feel a connection to this story. I imagine 7 years forward my daughter would be in Secondary 2, my parents would be in their 70s, we would have moved to Tengah, me, my wife and daughter would have our own 3-room flat, my parents would have their own 2-room flat right next door, I strongly believe this is the best outcome. There is a Chinese saying: 相见容易相处难 Directly translated it means: easy to meet, difficult to get along with Based on my personal traumatic experience, I can tell you this saying is very true. One year meet a few times versus everyday meet is very different. When me and wife were still living with my parents, every 2-3 days get into conflict over the smallest things, sometimes between my wife and my mother, sometimes between my wife and my sister, most of the time be

Koufu @ Tanglin Halt is Nuts

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/06/inflation-is-ridiculous.html Just a few weeks ago, I felt the inflation when I bought the economy rice at Koufu, today my wife went to the same stall to buy one plate of rice, 3 veggies and 1 sotong, SG$7.60. Sotong only 3 pieces, have no idea how they charge. Then when I buy the drinks, one iced milo and one Fanta grape for SG$3.80, wah seh, even if the iced milo is SG$2, then SG$1.80 for the Fanta grape is crazy. I think we will avoid the Koufu from now on, it's just ridiculous the way they increase prices, just eat at hawker or cook at home way cheaper, I always prefer hawker food anyway, that Koufu happen to be more convenient because it is right beside the Sheng Siong. At the same time I wonder what our government is doing about this inflation, found this post:  https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/government-economy/singapore-to-release-s15b-support-package-as-energy-prices-stay-high I wonder how much it will help, will Koufu ch

Jun 2022 School Holiday Ending

Daughter will start school on 27 Jun, in case you are wondering, she is in P1. I think she had a good long break, even though we didn't manage to visit MIL, maybe Dec see how, but I think wife's passport will be expiring soon by then, so need to renew earlier. For the whole month, daughter play Roblox, watch TikTok, wife got her to practise Chinese reading and writing, there's also a Student Learning Space (SLS) from MOE, there are several online interactive homework, finished all the May and Jun ones, I see some are Apr and earlier, daughter says the teacher already covered those in computer class so I let her skip. Currently daughter can't speak or understand Mandarin, problem is at home we don't speak Mandarin, write she can only follow based on what her Chinese teacher taught her. I should really start speaking to her in Mandarin. Personally I think Mandarin is useful, but writing Chinese not so much, I can't remember when was the last time I wrote in Chines

My Java Still Not Bad

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/06/hmm-binance-still-hiring.html Yesterday was talking about the Java position at Binance, so today I went to refresh my Java knowledge, went through the whole Java tutorial at W3Schools . The tutorial is very solid, simple and straight to the point, should be very easy to follow even for beginners, I wish I had this tutorial when I started learning Java. I did pretty well in the quiz lol, actually the quiz is very easy, go try and you will know. Reminds me of when I started learning Java back in 2004, that time I borrowed books from library, also learn from the Sun Microsystems Java Trails website, very confusing when I started, it was over the years working on many Java projects that I slowly understand the concepts, mainly by reading other people's code and practising. I started with Java 1.4, today the Java roadmap is up to 21, Java is always evolving, never-ending learning haha.
