KNN Low Key Training Again! WTF! (Update)

My previous post. So this morning someone from the army called me, not sure who he is but he sounded like a polite lad and he told me that my coming in-camp training should be a high key instead and sounds like there is some sort of a cock-up, my ICT should be 8 days instead of 6 days, I guess somehow the wrong dates got released to the notification system. After that he told me they haven't decided yet on how to inform us, maybe they will update ns.sg or they will send everybody a paper notice. Then later in the afternoon someone from the army called me again, he sounded like the same guy from morning, this time he sounded like the notification system, he told me my annual ICT is high key and it's from XX day to XX day and I asked him whether I will receive any official notification because I need to update my company, I was thinking how come army so cheap have to get someone to pretend to be the notification system, then he told me they will update ns.sg, great. Very humo

KNN Low Key Training Again! WTF!

The moment I heard the automated voice message say it's a low key my blood instantly boil! I have served more than enough low keys, actually I just need to clear 3 low keys but I have already served more than that, and I need 7 high keys so currently I only have 4 high keys so I need 3 more, so why the heck did they give me low key again? What is the point? They give me low key and it only serves to delay my MR date, so what happens? I have to keep coming back until who knows when, which means every year MINDEF have to pay me my civilian pay for the days that they call me back, and where does the money come from? Taxpayer's money, I'm also a taxpayer and this is how they spend our money? And what happened to the 10 years ORNS? I ORD in Jan 2004, until now it has already been 10 years, so why the hell am I still in the army and still owing them 3 high keys? Sigh, fucking waste of time. Not that I don't want to serve, at least don't make it so pointless. But serious

A Few Thoughts After My In-Camp Training

After going back for so many in-camp trainings, I noticed that things have improved a lot, nowadays we in-pro and out-pro very quickly unlike in the past we can take more than an hour for each process, super waste of time, they even make us sign in and out so everybody had to queue up, now we just have to let them scan our id card and that's it. The cookhouse food have also improved a lot, used to be managed by Singapore Food industries, their food really sucks, now it's managed by SATS, I can see the standard seems to have improved a bit but there's still room for improvement, well, when you mass cook, the quality will always be substandard, but I heard one meal is $6.50, it's not cheap so I expect the quality to be higher. The emart have also improved, more and better items available, problem is they don't have air-con, mindef only gave them a small space, don't even want to provide air-conditioning, heard from the cashier the space is rented from mindef s

Got My First Marksman

Today we went for our SAR21 firing exercise, surprisingly my team managed to achieve marksman, actually the marksman rate for our unit was very high, heard it was 99% or 100%, nowadays for NSmen it's based on team performance and not individual performance so if one guy cannot shoot well, the good shooters can help to offset the lost points, as for my team, most of us only missed around 3-4 shots so it's free $200 for each of us, totally unexpected, I never got marksman before, don't even talk about $200. Anyway tomorrow is our last day and we say bye bye to each other.

Went Back for ICT Today

Today is my first day of in-camp training, as usual, in-process, briefing, slack, have lunch, slack again, briefing and book out, the slack part is really tiring, kind of funny when having nothing to do is also kind of challenging. But the good part is that this in-camp is going to be super slack because there is no field training so yay, no need to feed mosquitoes and sleep on stones, and according to the briefing, we will have IPPT, 4KM march, rifle training and that's about it, and on the last day we will have a movie session and then say bye bye to everyone.

Fellow NSman Suffered Cardiac Arrest after IPPT Run

Source Hope he is okay, also hope he passed, and no point giving his life away for a stupid IPPT. I think this kind of incident happened quite a few times already, if I remember correctly, seems like every one of them did not have existing or prior medical condition, their heart suddenly stopped working. I also came across the following article saying that signs of such attacks will come weeks before. Signs of 'sudden' cardiac death may come weeks before These few days I feel my left chest cramping a bit, is this a sign? Actually this is not the first time I have this issue, it is because I exercise lesser nowadays, so once I start working out often, the cramping will go away, I do make sure I go for a 3KM run every Saturday without fail, even so, every time I read this kind of news it still scares me a bit, I should really start working out now, since my wife came back, been slacking too much, eating too much good food. Everyone take care, holiday season soon.

IPPT Changes? Nope...

Image
This morning I overheard my colleagues talking about IPPT 2.4KM has been changed to 3.2KM but I was too busy to check it out. Then after I went home, I saw this news with an update from the army on Yahoo!. The army has clarified that there will be no change, well too bad, I was hoping they would come up with something new, the 5 stations are boring as hell, I've been doing it for so many years! But looking at the changes, other than the run, standing broad jump replaced with push-ups sound good, push-up is way easier than jumping, this can save a lot of people. Just read about this article saying 13 year old girls are running 3.6KM at cross-country , was quite pissed off when I read it, obviously the writer has absolutely no idea what he/she is writing, it's not all about the distance, we have different category, we have different timing, we have different consequences, so what if the girls lose the cross-country, nothing will happen to them, if we fail our IPPT we need to

NS.SG Error 500--Internal Server Error

Image
Yesterday I complained the website super slow, today it totally down, power la, now everybody cannot book IPPT, RT or IPT, I think have to call their hotline, must be super congested. I wonder how come they don't have a failover server i.e. when server A is down, server B can continue to provide service. NS.SG Down

NS.SG So Slow

Aiyoh, just want to check my IPPT award payment date, this ns.sg really cannot make it, been really slow recently, other times also slow, I think they are doing maintenance or something, shouldn't they at least let me know what's going on, let me know what to expect, or simply tell me to try again later, first thing that greeted me is always the slowness, I'm sure they also know it's damn slow. I know it's a free service but free doesn't mean it's ok for it to suck, see, from typing this post until now, it's still loading, what the heck, if the server can't deliver the content within an acceptable time frame, just show a maintenance message, don't make people wait for nothing, that is like so basic. Or not enough bandwidth, seems like the website is shared by Mindef, Police and Civil Defense personnel, I think it could be overloaded, there are so many national service personnel in Singapore, must be overloaded.

Finally Cleared My IPPT for 2013! FU*K YEAH!

Image
My IPPT started at around 4.15PM today, I only ate 2 sticks of Kit Kat since I woke up so as to prevent myself from feeling lethargic; I always feel sleepy after eating a full meal. I also drank plenty of water to ensure my urine was white, which is a sign of proper hydration, I also drank one small bottle of 100PLUS, and luckily the weather was cooling, there was a drizzle when the run started, so it seems like everything was set for my pass. Here's my score, by the way I'm CAT Y1: Sit Up: 37 reps = 5 pts Broad Jump: 216CM = 3 pts Chin Up: 8 reps = 4 pts Shuttle Run: 10.1 seconds = 5 pts 2.4KM Run: 12:33 minutes = 2 pts Total: 19 pts Result: PASS Award: INCENTIVE I in-pro at 3.51PM, out-pro at 4.53PM, the whole session took about an hour, so S$100 for one hour of my time, damn good money , and if I can run 12:20 and below for my 2.4KM, I would be eligible for Silver award which is S$200, maybe I should go try again since I was actually quite close, I actually hav

Even Burger King Knows to Appreciate National Service Men

Source Today they gave free burgers for the first 1000 NSmen, the rest get to buy at half price, not bad, even a fast food restaurant knows to appreciate what we've done, the burger is not a big deal but it touches my heart, I really hope more people would give a damn about National Service. During my time, being in the Army means nothing, our salary makes our sacrifice look really stupid, I know we should have no complain serving our country but the salary is really pathetic, how can a soldier be paid less than a domestic helper? And then we get some CPF top-up, slightly more GST rebate, all of it doesn't really make up for our 2 or 2.5 years, it never will. Anyway, no point mulling excessively over it, if you got to serve, you got to serve, but it means a lot when people show that they appreciate our contribution.

Fail IPPT and Fall Sick

I got 14:03 for my 2.4KM run, at the 4th round I gave up, the sun too glaring, body too heavy, sigh, if only I pushed on I might just get 12:20 so I can get silver, or 13:00 isn't too bad for an incentive pass. The worse thing is after my IPPT, I don't know what I ate and I have diarrhea and fever, didn't go to work today, feel so drained, and didn't have a complete meal since yesterday. And one weird thing, this morning at around 5.50am, I heard someone fiddling with our door lock, I thought maybe I was sick and hearing things, then I went to take a look, I can see an old lady outside, she was playing with the lock, after observing her for a while through the door eye, I decided to go back to sleep, I was too tired to confront her. At around 7am+, I heard my dad asking the old lady why she was fiddling with our lock, after that she left. Sigh, what a lousy weekend...

Training for IPPT

Since my wife went back to Thailand, I've been working out regularly, after work, during weekends, resting only one day a week and I've improved a lot, but my weight seems to be the same even though I work out quite hard. My weekday routine 4 sets of 30 pushups. 4 sets of chinups and pullups (2 sets each), 10 on the first go, 6 for the rest. 2 sets of 15 squats. 2 sets of 10 bicep curls with a 10KG weight (including the bar). Some jumping jacks if I have some energy left. My weekend routine 2.4KM run, no timing though but I think I run quite fast because at the end of the run, I always feel shagged out. From the looks of it, I might just be able to get a silver for my IPPT, or at least an incentive pass, which is not too bad. Previously I was struggling to do 6 chinups, now I can easily do 7 or 8, if I push, I can hit 10. As for my 2.4 run, previously I was struggling to complete 1KM, now at least I can complete the whole 2.4 without stopping. And the squats a

WTF Low-Key In-Camp Training Again

It was originally scheduled for 10 days but suddenly they sent a letter to inform me that it has been changed to 6 days, it really pissed me off and I immediately emailed my unit since their line is not available during weekend, but I can't wait so I called 1800-3676767 to ask them why did my unit suddenly change the schedule, and also why do they keep putting me on low-key training, the guy on the line is also an NSman so he can totally understand how I feel, and I realized that there's not much he can do because he will also need to forward my enquiry to my unit, but well, it's good that someone is following up for me. This made me check my NS Booklet and do some research on the definition of low and high key trainings, and also when I can MR (Mindef Reserve). I found two pages that cleared my doubts, but their definition of Low-Key Training doesn't seem to tally on both pages. Page 1 The duration of your call-up may be as follows: 1. Low Key (LK) Training a

How to Avoid Shitting During Field Training

Recently I completed my high-key In-Camp Training (ICT) and during that period, I stayed in the wilderness for 3 days 2 nights, and you know what, I didn't shit at all. I only took a dump when I reached home on the third day evening. So how did I do it? Before training The field training started on a Monday morning and ended on the following Wednesday before lunch. On the Sunday prior to training, I skipped dinner and slept in camp. Monday I skipped breakfast and after some waiting, we were in the field by lunch time. My lunch was rice with meat and veggies. I ate only the meat i.e. proteins, some veggies and threw away the rice i.e. carbohydrates = *WARNING* = Good Shit Material. Dinner was the same. During night training, I ate a biscuit, I have no idea what it's made of but it's very dry, don't think it's shit material, and I also ate a pear. No urge so far. Tuesday Same thing, skipped breakfast, the breakfast looks delicious though, glutinous rice wi
