Saw the Past Me Today

Just now I went to a school to help install a plugin for our application software, I met this lad who is working as the school IT support, the users said he looked like me, like my younger brother lol, well he does look like me when I was 20+, skinny, shy, curious, nerdy lol. I also used to work at the school, the job role is TA i.e. Technical Assistant, damn siong job, pay is low consider the kind of work we have to do, that time I was paid $1350, run around the school like a madman everyday. Anyway this lad is 20 years old, holds a diploma and he is from Malaysia, so young can travel here to work, very impressive, he was asking me a lot of stuff, how to handle some technical issues, some career questions. He was asking me if he should focus on getting a Masters degree first, of course I told him having experience is more important, paper is one thing to open the way but if you don't have experience, how long can you last? Furthermore by the time he get Masters, he will probably...

Dropped My Handphone Just Now

Just now we took taxi to Golden Mile Complex because my wife was craving for authentic Thai noodles, I didn't know I dropped my phone until my father called my wife, he told me the driver called him, so I used my wife's phone to call my phone and the driver picked up, he told me to go back to where he dropped me, so I went back and saw him waiting for me, what a lucky day for me, lucky this driver is honest or else I will have to go through the trouble of cancelling and getting a new sim card. Kudos to this driver, he is Comfort blue cab driver, license number is 1444, I hope he is rewarded for his honesty! Anyway the thai noodle is really good, very authentic Isaan style, must try, one bowl for $5 though, very expensive, the same noodle in Bangkok will cost only about $1+.

My Childhood Kind of Sucks

I remember when I was in primary school, whenever my classmates went overseas, they will come back with presents and they will bring it to class and distribute to everyone, same goes for birthdays, they will buy candies and stationery to "share the joy" and every year it will be the same few kids who will do it, less well off kids like me have nothing to share, my parents simply cannot afford to be so generous. They will stand up in class and tell everyone they went to where and bla bla bla and teacher will tell us to clap. And going to my classmates house sucks now that I look back, they have the latest console games, card games, toys and I have nothing, I don't really invite friends to my house because I have nothing for them to play, I always go to friends house and play their stuff, yeah some of these friends are nice enough to share and not look down on me but I remember there was this one asshole classmate, he got into a car accident, some parents knock him down i...

Toilet Auntie at My Workplace

Usually toilet aunties are very nice but I have this particularly annoying auntie at my workplace, I think she hates me but I don't know why, I didn't do anything to offend her, I don't even talk to her, we hardly interact at all so I really have no idea why she seems to hate me. You can say I'm sensitive but let me share with you why I think she hates me. Every morning I will go to the pantry to fill up my water bottle, she will be sitting at one corner reading newspaper, I don't look at her or do anything funny, I just wash my bottle and fill it up, then she will start mumbling in Malay, I don't understand Malay so I have no idea what she was saying, I also don't think she was talking to anyone else because we were alone in the room, either she was directing it at me or she was talking to herself, then I turned and looked at her and she continued mumbling and reading the newspaper and looking at me from the corner of her eye, what the hell man, and this ...

The Guy with a $15,000 Rolex Watch

As usual, after work, take the train, find a comfortable spot and lean back, then came this very tall guy who stood beside me, he was even taller than me, I'm about 1.81 meters, this guy was at least 1.9 meters, he was talking on the phone, then he said something about his Rolex watch with a market price of $15,000, then he said if he sold it, he would be able to get over his current financial difficulty, he said the watch was of sentimental value so he had no plan to sell it. That made sense, my grandmother left me a jade-studded gold ring bought more than a decade ago, not very sure how much she paid for it, also not sure how much it's worth now, and if I were to sink into financial difficulty, I don't think I would ever sell it, probably not even pawn it unless there is absolutely no other way. Actually she bought similar rings for all her sons and grandsons, not sure what she bought for the females, I think it was some jade bracelet because my mom got one or two from ...

SingPost and Prudential Partnership?

If you are going to Singapore Post Centre at Paya Lebar, please be mindful that they have Prudential staff stationed there. Today when I was there, I assumed everyone there was SingPost staff, now I don't even know if the lady who attended to me was SingPost or Prudential staff, so anyway when I entered the building, a lady approached me and I thought how nice of her to be so proactive, she helped me with my parcel collection enquiry and also asked if I have got a new medishield thingy, and she sounded like I might have missed out something awesome and so she introduced me to another lady. I was thinking how come SingPost is doing insurance nowadays. So I spoke to the second lady, she asked for my SingPass id, I typed in the password, and after talking to her for a while she told me she is from Prudential, and it's a partnership between them and SingPost, man I was shocked. So she tried to sell me their shield plan but I told her I am already covered by NTUC Incom...

Had a Bad Dream Last Weekend

Can't remember whether it was Friday or Saturday night, the dream was quite vivid and I still remember it now, it's strange because I never remember a dream for long after I wake up, I will probably forget everything within one or two hours. In the dream, somehow my father passed away, I can't recall the cause of death but I saw my mother's face clearly, she looked a bit sad, she didn't talk, she was staring at something on my left side, and I was looking at her the whole time. Then I saw my father's face, he was lying down, his eyes were closed, lying on something peacefully. That's about it. I think I remember it because it has something to do with my family, my dreams were usually stupid things like jumping up a building, and then down a building, or I'm running with someone or something chasing me, can't remember clearly but it was always the stupid crap, I rarely have good dreams, oh there's one where I dreamt that I strike it rich, and ...

Old Man Outside the Train Station

Today I was on my way to work and as usual, I would take a puff before I enter the station, there was this old man, he approached me with a smile, I knew for sure he wanted something from me, strangers don't usually approach with a smile, he was smoking too, his cigarette was more high class than mine; I am smoking the cheap hand-rolled type. I was immediately alerted at that moment, if he was going to ask for money, straight no. Indeed he was trying to ask for money but he started by saying he is not doing well and he didn't have a decent meal for days and all he wanted was just some money for tea. I told him I'm not doing well too, everything is expensive, I was expecting him to get pissed off and walk away but he smiled and said how can I be more worse off than him. So I asked whether he has a job and he said he has been trying to find one for a long time but he always got rejected due to his age, according to him, he is 65 years old. He said once a person reaches 55, ...

What Causes Pain?

Why does she cry so much he asks himself, as her cries pulls him out of his concentration of trying to write something, what is he trying to write? He is writing this story, as he questions why, why does she cry so much. Is it due to pain? Does pain cause a person to cry? He doesn't cry when he is in pain, why is that so? What can make him cry? How long has it been since he last cried? But does pain really make a person cry? Or perhaps it's just because she is a baby, but does that mean a person should cry in pain? What causes pain then?

There's No Need to Set a Price to Everything

Last year, a co-worker asked for my help with her printer at home, she said she bought it and installed according to the manual but she had no idea why it's still not working. She asked me what can go wrong, and I told her that I cannot advise further without taking a look at the printer, the connection and etc, so I offered to check it out during my lunchtime, and good thing is that her house is only a few bus stops away from our workplace. So we took a bus to her house together, when I was about to swipe my EZ-Link card, she offered to use hers instead; she had two cards, I think one is for backup. When I arrived, I did some basic checking, plugs checked, driver installed checked, and found that there was no problem. Actually her default printer is some other printer, maybe it's her old printer, I asked her to try to do a printing like what she would normally do, and yeah, she just printed without selecting the printer, which means she was trying to print to a non-existen...

Game Maker

There was a little boy who loved playing games so much that whenever his friends have a new game, he would run to them and join in. He would play card games, he would play board games, he would play video games, and he would play any games all day long. One day he said to himself, “I’m going to become a game maker when I grow up and make the funnest games ever!” but he’s not sure how he can become a game maker and he asked the richest kid he knew, and so he asked Jim, “How do i become a game maker?” and Jim said, “My dad buys me all the games I want, I don’t need to know that.” The little boy didn’t get the the answer that he needed and he asked the smartest kid he knew, and so he asked Eddy, “How do i become a game maker?” and Eddy said, “My dad buys me a new game whenever I do well in school, I don’t need to know that.” Again, he didn’t get the answer that he needed and he asked everyone that he knew but no one gave him the answer, and so, he stopped asking. Many years late...
