Thinking of Attending Thai Lessons

Image
I have $1000 in SkillsFuture credits, I'm thinking of attending proper Thai lessons so I searched for courses at MySkillsFuture website and found a ton of Thai courses. After going over for some time I realised there are Elementary/Basic, Intermediate and Advanced levels, and NUS also offers Thai language course and they go by Levels 1 to 9, something like the "Nine Swords of Dugu" , but NUS more expensive, one course $600, you attend all $5,400, my $1,000 where got enough, at most can take one. For the non-NUS ones, I think maybe can take 4-5 courses. So I focused on this "SkillsFuture@PA Reading and Writing Thai Language Elementary (Stage 1)" and it has multiple training partners, so I choose the one nearest to my home and it redirected me to onePA website which does nothing, meaning I have to manually search for the course within onePA. And the search results are quite staggering and irrelevant. So I tried again with "Thai Language", still didn'...

Degree Courses with Certifications, FREE

https://www.saylor.org/about Do you believe it? I didn't, but it's true. Why then have I spent SG$27K or so for my Business IT degree then? *facepalm* Frankly speaking, I don't really learn anything useful from my paid course, they just teach old dinosaur stuff, for me I was working full-time and studying part-time, so I can tell you a lot of the things they teach in school is outdated, it gets worse as technology advances, and technology moves very fast. Anyway I have a new direction now, I'm going to take the "Computer Science" course, complete it and get a certificate.

P1 Registration is Complete Nonsense

https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/Pri-1-registration-spots-for-pupils-living-near-school-but-have-no-prior-links https://www.todayonline.com/big-read/big-read-not-faint-hearted-parents-jump-through-hoops-go-great-guns-secure-pri-1-spots They turn primary education into a competition to get into the best school, no wonder the "every man for himself" mentality is so prevalent in Singapore. Then you have these kiasu parents partaking in this nonsense, so are they going to tell their children they volunteered at the school just to get a place, for basic education? Or they are going to tell their children because they are part of whatsoever church or clan or they are staff member of the school so they get special privilege over other Singaporean children? And are they going to educate their child on fairness too? Is that hypocrisy or what? I can only imagine what kind of adults their children will grow up to be. Then they say every school is a good school, and yet they enable ...

First Day of K1

Today baby started her first day of school in K1, she seems to like it, never cry or anything, in fact she quite hurriedly went into the school so she can start the lesson. I think it is a good thing that she embraces education, hope she can keep this eagerness all the way to university and beyond. Since yesterday is the start of the strict enforcement of e-scooter, today we took bus instead, it's not that bad actually, just have to wake up earlier and get to the bus stop on time. Oh by the way, my daughter is morning session only, 8am to 12pm, no lunch but there is breakfast, saw the teacher giving out some bread, so actually no need to prepare breakfast for her.

My Wife is Considering Further Studies

Today we went to Golden Mile, at level 3 there is a branch of the  Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) , it's a distance learning university where students can sign up and study by themselves and then go for exams at PSB Academy, it's similar to the O/A Levels private candidates. There are also volunteers who have either completed the course or almost completing, they are there to help answer questions about the course. My wife learnt about this school through her Facebook friend and so they decided to check it out together, and I tagged along because I was very skeptical about it, but well, after being there, seen the place and talked to one of the volunteers, the school seems reliable, I also did a check on the school via internet, found that it's one of Thailand's public universities . I was skeptical because the courses fees are ridiculously low, but then again it's distance learning so they don't have to pay for classrooms, teachers and equipmen...

Never Too Late to Study

Source I find that his story is very similar to mine, he dropped out at secondary 3, I dropped out at secondary 2, both of us realized that without paper qualification, the road will be very rough, I know there are people who succeeded without any paper but how many are there in every 10 who tried? Anyone know the statistics? Worse are those who keep telling you stories of this guy who became rich without PSLE, or that guy who made it with only N-levels, or that ITE graduate who is earning $5000 a month, it's like saying one should buy TOTO because there are people who won first group, but do you know how low the probability of winning is? Doesn't mean you shouldn't try but also doesn't mean you should fully depend on it, get what I mean. But I really respect this guy, he went through a challenging path, 2 years of ITE night classes and then 3 years of polytechnic, I think he studied full-time in polytechnic and that's probably why it took him 3 years, I remembe...
