Wife Owes CareShield Life Premium

Previous post regarding CareShield Life. Today received a letter from MOH + CPF saying my wife owes S$252.87 of premiums, I thought they would just automatically deduct from my account since she doesn't have a single cent in her CPF. But as usual SG anything government related sure have e-Service, so easy to use and convenient, I think SG must have one of the the best government e-Services in the world if not the best. Just follow these steps: Go to  https://www.careshieldlife.gov.sg/ Under "eServices" > "Change Premium Payer" > It will redirect you to SingPass. After that pretty straightforward, just enter my wife's ID, the amount will appear, then just follow the instructions. Settle in less than 3 mins.

DIY Upgrade Water Pipe System

Image
The red switch is spoil already so it doesn't work, so whenever need to replace the water pipe, need to turn off the entire water supply from outside my flat, damn troublesome. So yesterday I bought some parts and replaced it myself, there's actually 3 new parts, first one is the L-shaped to bend it outwards so that it will be easier to work with in future. Second is the new switch, see the grey switch. Finally is the split which allows two water flows; one to basin and one to hand spray. The 3 parts I think around S$3+ to S$4+ each, so total S$10++. Plumbing sure is very tough work, cut my fingers too, no wonder they charge so much for the labour, but if don't want to pay then just DIY haha. Just take note that plumbing service expensive is due to the labour, not the parts, the parts actually doesn't cost much, especially these days a lot of these parts come from China, mass produced and easily available, but quality is good.

Going for Cloud Certification

By the way I'm still in the same company, still haven't throw letter yet because I remember that during one interview several years back, a wise HR personnel asked me if I tried asking for internal transfer, actually I did but my boss in my previous company outright told me not possible without even trying. So what I did now was I emailed to HR directly to indicate my interest to transfer to a more technical position, but this time more special is because the boss in the department that I wanted to transfer to already told me he is ready to take me in anytime but the catch is I need to raise to HR in my own capacity without mentioning him as poaching in the company is not allowed. Now just waiting for the transfer to be official, also confirmed this with HR again. But this new future boss requires me to go for cloud certification, not just me, I think the direction is all staff under him have to go, anyway some already went and gotten themselves certified. Talking about exam, I

Crab Scam?

https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/2-crabs-990-man-loses-over-18000-after-falling-scam https://www.8crabs.com/shop A really strange case of a scam, this 8 Crabs actually have an online booking site, and then this guy decided to jump at a $9.90 deal from an ad from either Facebook or Instagram, and then ended up paying $18,579 and didn't get any crab. I think the lesson here is don't buy anything through ads, just buy directly from the merchant's website. And $9.90 for crabs is just ridiculous, if it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Path of Exile Server Issue

Image
Path of Exile 3.14 is now live, but sometimes can't even log in, need to queue, even if able to log in, feels like the server is responding really slowly and getting timeout. Anyway some updates of the problems in this thread: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3082616

Impersonation of Chinese Officials or Banks

https://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/31-people-being-investigated-over-impersonation-scams What really caught my eye are the amounts lost, does it mean that there is one victim who transferred a whooping amount of $824,500 to a scammer? "The amounts transferred or handed over ranged from $5,000 to $824,500 . At least $6,920,000 was lost in total." I just can't understand why people can be so gullible, impersonation scam is probably like one of the lamest scam, I mean it's just so easy to see through and ignore, and yet there are still people getting scammed and the amounts are not small. Just remember this, if in doubt, do nothing , if worried, ask for another opinion because yours don't count anymore, talk to someone you know, a family member, a close friend, a trusted co-worker, ask one not sure, ask all of them, don't just panic and allow a stranger to lead you by the nose. You will be surprised that sometimes all you need to do is nothing.

NParks Officer, Took Bribes, Cheat and Took Upskirt Photos

https://sg.news.yahoo.com/n-parks-officer-charged-for-corruption-cheating-and-taking-upskirt-photos-032813088.html Wah seh, another civil service scandal, this guy represents NParks but he helped the contractor cover up, but the weird part is "attempted to corruptly obtain $10,000"? Does it mean he didn't get the money? He asked for the money then kena whistle-blow? When I see this kind of news, I always wonder how many more, and how many went undetected.

Still Don't Get Those Mukbang Videos

Image
According to Wikipedia , "Mukbang" means eating show or in practical words it means sitting in front of a video camera with a lot of food, then eat and talk to the video camera at the same time. A mukbang (Korean: [mÊŒk̚.p͈aÅ‹] (About this soundlisten), also known as an eating show) is an online audiovisual broadcast in which a host consumes various quantities of food while interacting with the audience. It became popular in South Korea in 2010, and since then has become a huge worldwide trend. Varieties of foods, ranging from pizza to noodles, are consumed in front of a camera. This genre of video seems to have become wildly popular in these few years, I don't think it even exist back before 2010, after that it just spread like wildfire, Americans caught on, China caught on, heck even Singaporeans caught on, now you have normal people just piling up mountains of food in front of the video camera, and then just eat and eat, most of the time I just wonder if they can actuall

Next Prime Minister?

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/heng-swee-keat-dpm-4g-leader-step-aside-pap-pm-lee-accepts-14581784 Seems like Mr. Heng is not going to be the next PM of Singapore, so I wonder who will replace Mr. Lee. I think we have many smart people in Singapore capable of leading this country, and I don't think it should always come from one place, if possible I would prefer the PM (and other key positions) to be chosen by the people, anyone who has the courage, the willingness to serve and the capability should be able to step forth and take up the challenge. Why I say need courage is because this person will be both loved and hated by the people, as a leader, it is impossible to make everyone happy, a lot of time tough decisions need to be made for the greater good and not everybody can see it or benefit from it. The reality is that if you are only loved by the people, then something is wrong and vice-versa. Balance and forward-looking is the key. There's probably someone

Comfort's Pay for Street Hail Pretty Cool

Image
Today finally tried this pay for street hail feature, very easy to use, just use the comfort booking app and scan the QR code inside the taxi, it's actually a sticker pasted on the rear passenger seat window, I think in front should have too. So after scanning, it will "pair" the ride and the taxi vehicle number will appear in the app. Receipt below for example. Note that there is a small admin fee, not sure how it is calculated but it is about 2.78% of the metered fare.

NParks Directors Took Bribes

https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/2-former-nparks-directors-charged-taking-bribes-form-hotel-stay-transport-services Sometimes I see this kind of news, I wonder if it is just the tip of the iceberg, only those that are caught then you will see in the news, how about those that are not caught? How many? Nobody knows. Then the funny part about this news is that the benefit involved is so little, S$258 hotel stay and some transport services, like wtf, so how many our our civil servants also took this kind of small little bribes here and there, who knows, nobody knows, until someone report. Not sure what is the actual story but this case sounds like a deal went sour, then the person giving the bribes go sabo? Or maybe somebody whistle-blow? Anyway when this kind of news appear, I tend to lose confidence in our civil service, I tend to wonder how many of these garbage we have in our civil service, maybe it's time to do some spring cleaning? I hope our government will take action and
