Seen Baby Specialist Today

Doctor thinks she is doing very well both in terms of development and her heart condition. Wife thinks hole not completely closed but just now clarified with doctor actually is closed, just that like any bodily wound it needs time to heal so the follow-up is mainly to check on her recovery. And since she is doing well, her follow-up interval has been changed to yearly instead of 6-monthly, so next appointment is next year. Today paid $115 after government subsidy.

Getting fatter, she seldom eat all these junk, mostly she drinks nestle milk powder, she can drink a lot, one week can finish one big tin (1.8 KG tin).

Rash on Baby Body

The day before she had an outbreak of rash on her body, looks like chicken pox, I think it's because of her chicken pox vaccination last week, the day before she left for Thailand. Yesterday and today whatsapp see her seems to have recovered, read online that kids who had the chicken pox vaccine may have outbreak of rash that looks like chicken pox, scared me a bit when I saw the photo sent by wife, thought she ate something wrong or maybe it's heat rash. So far baby seems to be doing well there, but I think the weather there should be super hot, now here in SG already super hot, like today can feel the burning heat even when I was in shelter. By the way whatsapp really useful, no need to use the callback card, might as well give her money to top up her card, for me it doesn't cost much since most of the time I'm on wifi, even if not on wifi the data usage actually not high.

Baby Follow-Up at NUH

Today went to see her doctor, never do echo, only physical examination, doctor say she look very well, baby is indeed doing really well, can walk, can run, can climb, can talk and etc, developing normally like any other kids. Then out of the blue doctor mentioned a small leakage, came as a surprise, we thought the operation went very well, so how come still have leakage, but today never do echo so don't really know much, I think she found it in last echo results, so she scheduled to see baby in September. I think no need to worry so much, I did some search online and some people say it is quite common to have tiny leakage after surgery, some will close by itself but who knows, last time we also thought her ASD may close by itself, in the end never close. What's most important is that she is doing well now.

Bring Baby for Chicken Pox Vaccination

The polyclinic charge $77 per dose, at first I thought my daughter only need one dose, end up the nurse told me she need two doses, the second one to be given 3 months later. The Health Promotion Board website say need only one dose, why so different lol, so HPB is right or the polyclinic is right. If don't need of course just one dose will do, why pay another $77 for nothing. I emailed HPB see what they say. Anyway chicken pox vaccine is optional, but I think should just jab la, even though it is just to lessen the effect. Last time when I had chicken pox I remember one whole week stuck at home, whole body damn itchy, my mother put one basin of hot water under my bed when I sleep, it was a bad experience.

Seen Baby Cardio Today

Baby has now fully recovered from her operation, now very active, can walk can run, getting naughtier, have to discipline if not later become siao gin na haha. Anyway today see doctor nothing much, never do echo, last echo results was great so doctor didn't think we need to do again so soon, so she scheduled to see us in another 3 months. How time flies, so fast operation over and recovered, looking actually nothing to worry about. Oh today won toto $10 again, won so many $10 when can win the big prize, my $1m dream haha.

Baby Finally Spoke Her First Meaningful Word, Star

I was reading out words from a colouring book to her and I pointed to a picture of a star and said it out loud, surprisingly she repeated it, I thought it was just one of her random babbling so I tried again, and she managed to repeat it again. So today I flipped through that same book, when we reached the picture of that star, she recognized it and said "star", and went on and on. Earlier on I thought she was having trouble with speech, good thing she finally got to talking, I think eventually she will be able to read out more words. Today she said "moo moo" when she saw a picture of a cow, I think my wife taught her that. She also said "nana", actually she meant "banana", probably also taught by wife. I think can focus on those words with one sound, or substitute with something easier, for example cow with moo moo, I guess babies find it easier to read out.

Surgeon Review and Baby's Hospital Bill

Today baby went back to surgeon again for review, surgeon said everything is well, he gave an open appointment in 2 months time, if nothing happen then can just cancel the appointment. Now the hospital bill. By the way the procedure name for her hospital stay is  Ostium Primum Atrial Septal Defect Closure , in layman's term is to close a hole in her heart. Total charges for 7 days stay was $23,672.96, of which 4 days were in ICU. Singapore hospital bill really scary, and this is for non-complicated case, my daughter was scheduled for 10 days stay, ended up only stay for 7 days. Then government subsidized $19,138.67, which is 80.84% of the bill. If my daughter is not a Singaporean, then I will have to pay $23,672.96. So $23,672.96 - $19,138.67 = $4534.29 payable. Then out of $4534.29, I only need to pay $1803.43 from my Medisave, the remaining amount of $2730.86 is covered by Medishield Life.

Today Received the last $1000 Baby Bonus

To date I have received $8000 cash gift from government, of which $6000 I put CDA, actually should be $14000 since they matched 1:1 for baby's CDA, I told my foreign colleagues they shocked, in their country where got such thing. But I think later when pay for pre-school all will be gone very fast, now pre-school so expensive, still undecided whether to send her to pre-school, feel like it's a waste of money. People tell me it's good for her to interact with other kids, I feel that it's not so good, if mix with good kids is ok, mix with those jia lat ones then gone case.

Baby Still Cannot Talk

Now she is about 18 months and she still can't speak a single word, sometimes she can make sounds like mama but other than that the rest are unintelligible. Wonder if it is speech delay, wife say it is ok, I think maybe in Thailand it is normal, I don't know but ang moh babies can say words at 18 months or earlier. Here I also don't know whether it is normal, to me most important is her health, her character, the rest I guess it just needs time. But at least now she can walk by herself, I remember she suddenly started walking last month, it just happened lol. For me I was a late bloomer, when I was a kid people said I was very blur, they called me blur king, then in my teen years my peers always seemed smarter than me, I was always a follower, then after NS things started to change, can say that my brain started wake up, I guess it's true when people say NS can change a person. Now my life isn't too bad, at least not as bad as I used to thought it would be. No

Today baby went to see her surgeon to remove the stitches, surgeon said everything is well. Baby also seen her cardiologist, they did a scan for her, also said everything is well. Good.

Baby Discharged!

So happy that everything went so well, in total stay about 6 days instead of 10 days. Now baby can walk, can baba gaga, she recovering so fast. But she has a long cut on her chest, her neck also bruises due to the pokes from needles, I think it will all heal in time, have to put the cream for her, I think the cocoa butter cream is very good, ask wife to put for her later.

Baby Maybe can Discharge Tomorrow!

Today I didn't go visit her as I work late, but wife stay with her, so wife said just now they did x-ray for her and everything seems to be great, the water in her lungs seems to be gone or became lesser, didn't hear her clearly, anyway they are going to do one more round of x-ray tomorrow, if everything is ok, they can discharge her. She really is recovering very fast, remember last Friday she did her operation, then tomorrow maybe can discharge, so total only about 4 days stay, much lesser than the estimated 10 days. By the way they took the tube out of her nose, now she looks much better, can't imagine a tube into my nose lol.

Baby Moved to Normal Ward

Doctor said there is some water in her lungs, think they prescribed some medication for her, I guess otherwise they won't be moving her to normal ward, her wheezing is gone but she kept making strange noises, I think it's because of the tube into her nose. Other than that, she can sit up now, can also carry her, but she looked tired, maybe a few days time she can start to walk.

Baby Looks Good Today

They took out most of the tubes, now left with one into her nose and one on her left hand. Nurse say maybe tomorrow can transfer to normal ward. She also started feeding orally, I think that is a huge improvement, hopefully this week can discharge. One huge stone off my chest.

Baby's Operation went Very Well

That's according to her paediatric cardiologist, she was here at the operating theatre, very professional of her to drop by. Baby went into the operating theatre at around 9am, after that at about 2pm I received a call from a staff telling me that they would transfer her to the paediatric ICU in 1 hour time, so around 3pm I dropped by the ward, saw baby's name outside the room, felt a great relief. After that I brought everyone to the ward, this time we managed to catch a glimpse of baby, she was sleeping, looks normal except the big white patch on her chest, anyway she was on general anaesthesia so I think she will sleep until tomorrow, maybe wake up a bit but will go back sleeping, so I brought everyone home, no point waiting there, just let her rest.
