Haha Wife Still in A Class Ward

This is the 3rd day she is staying in the A class ward, I wonder when she will transfer to C ward, lol, I kept thinking where got such good thing, I selected C they gave me A but still charge me C rates, unbelievable . So today I took half-day leave to go for financial counselling, yesterday one nurse told me to come at 3.30pm and they will call the people to do the counselling with me. At 4pm, nobody came so I go find the clerk outside my wife's room, she told me to go to patient services centre, then the centre told me to go to women's clinic, then women's clinic told me I should go to clinic g, NB, what the hell, suddenly I feel like a football. Finally at the clinic g a very nice lady went through the costs with me, c-section plus 3 days stay in C ward comes up to about $1280+, all can pay by Medisave and no need to pay deposit. The lady told me if choose higher class then maybe need to pay deposit, I also don't know how they calculate but usually C no need. It&

Wife Still in A Class Ward

Hmm, seems like not bad huh, I choose C class ended up they give her A class lol. I think still no bed, just now when I visited her, they said want to transfer her, in the end only change room, still same ward and same 2 bedder, nurse told me because one auntie just had operation, another going to operation so they don't want to put them together. Anyway I asked for the bill, the bill indeed shows that my wife is being charged C class even though she is staying in A. But they still charged for the ER, I feel that I don't have to pay, then again wife get to enjoy A class so I should just keep quiet but principle tells me never to pay for what I don't need to pay so I politely asked them to explain to me why they charged me $108 for the ER when the nurse told me I won't be charged, if they can waive then great, if cannot also no big deal since my wife enjoyed A class for 2 days so really nothing much to complain about. And tomorrow need to take half day leave, the sta

Wife Temporarily Warded at NUH Kent Ridge Wing Class A

This morning a doctor from the ER called at around 6.30am to inform that there is still no ward and my wife might have to stay in the ER for about 3 more hours. Then my wife called at about 8am to tell me she has been moved to a 2 bedder at Kent Ridge Wing, I was shocked since 2 bedder is class A, yesterday I asked for class C, the price difference is significant, even more so for a PR so I quickly called to check. Damn bad luck, NUH website was down so I can't find any information, I called the appointment line instead and the very helpful staff helped me to confirm my wife's location, she gave me the direct number to the ward, so I called them. The ward staff told me that my wife will still be charged under C class because there is no bed available, so they put her in the 2 bedder temporarily until our requested ward class is available. Phew, my wife is supposed to stay there for 21 days, if stay in class A will be damn expensive, think will even burn out my Medisave. So

Wife Warded at NUH Emergency Centre!

Not because she was in critical condition, but because there was simply no bed available! Basket we saw the cardiologist at about 2.15pm, he did the paperwork and stuff, nurse told us to wait for a bed, we waited until 8.30pm, bloody hell 6 hours+ of waiting still no bed. Finally the nurse called the emergency centre and they agreed to take us for no extra charge, nurse said if go before 9pm it will be normal ER charges, but thankfully the ER guys allowed us to go at 8.30pm without extra charge. Tomorrow she will be moved to the normal ward when there is bed available. So the plan now is she will be warded up to 3 weeks, 2 weeks for her Warfarin to clear as she will be switched over to IV Heparin, the c-section will happen at the 3rd week, finally if everything goes well, she should be able to discharge by the end of the 3rd week. Seems like everything is going as planned, so far so good, now I'm trying to teach my mother-in-law and wife's cousin how to get to the hospita

Never See Doctor Today

Today was supposed to see the gynae and pediatric cardiologist but last minute decided to cancel the appointments, also cancelled the scan at the end of this month. Reason is because since we already know my wife is going to be admitted to NUH next month  to prepare for her delivery, I thought might as well do whatever scan there instead, anyway also busy at work so I try to take leave only if necessary, not like the consultation will reveal anything new. And also might as well spend the consultation and scan fees on baby stuff instead. So this morning we went to buy baby stuff instead, last week we bought baby's shirt, mittens, booties, hat and some other stuff, today we bought the bed set for baby, I think no need to buy a cot, just a small bed will do. Probably won't buy the baby trolley, maybe we'll just buy a sling instead. And next month my mother-in-law and my wife's cousin will be coming, still waiting for that cousin to do his passport before I buy the tick

Seen Cardiologist Today

Today we confirmed for my wife to be admitted to hospital next month on the 5th for preparation for delivery. She needs to be warded two weeks before so she can be switched to Heparin, once her blood is clear of Warfarin, they can then do the C-section for her. Hopefully everything will turn out fine. The cardiologist also said maybe after her delivery, can consider changing her mechanical heart valve, her current valve has severe stenosis i.e. narrowing so blood flow is reduced, but see how, maybe 6 months later or maybe longer, depends on her health.

Seen Gynae Today

Today we went to see gynae at NUH, nothing much, only took the glucose tolerance test and the usual questions from gynae like how are you, any breathlessness, giddiness and etc. After that we had lunch at the Coffee Bean, wife ordered the beef spaghetti and me the beef lasagne, I think I can make better spaghetti, actually it's not that difficult, just cook the noodles well and make a good sauce. The lasagne also not bad, but I still like our hawker food. We also ordered a Black Forest Mocha, good stuff. The meal costed $29, think they have some lunch promotion if not it will cost more. Then we went to the NTUC Fairprice, they have a shopping mall at the new building, I think there is also a Burger King somewhere but not sure which level, I saw their logo outside the building. Overall quite a nice place, but feels quite empty because not all the shop space are taken.

Baby So Far So Good

Just now went to see the pediatric cardiologist, did her scan as usual, this time was quite fast, I think 30 mins settled. She told us she found nothing new, same thing there is a hole at top center of heart, but seems to be small hole so probably can wait until baby is 3 years old then do operation to fix, there also seems to be a hole at bottom center but it likely small to medium, if small can also wait until 3 years old, if medium then fix within months after baby delivered. She said the bottom part have to wait after delivery then confirm, roughly same as what the professor said in our last visit. Well, I think don't think too much, since wife and baby doing fine so far, I mean other than the heart, everything else is normal so probably no major problem, I overheard some child have heart which cannot function well, something like only function at 20-25%, I think that is much worse than what we are facing so somehow that gives me some relief, but I hope that child is ok. Th

Good News Again?

As mentioned in the last post , the pediatric cardiologist said that baby has a hole at top center of heart, it's called AVSD , it's a condition which requires surgical intervention, but today the professor at women's clinic mentioned that he is not convinced that baby has AVSD, following is his report: Baby's weight as of 25 weeks and 2 days: 722 grams. Comment: CVS - Situs solitus with laevocardia. Both atria and ventricles are of similar size and contracting well. Left SVC with prominent coronary sinus seen. Both outflow tracts are normal. AV valves appear to be at same level and there is possibly an AVSD. At least 2 pulmonary veins seen entering left atrium. Summary: The fetus is growing along 18 th centile. Liquor volume and doppler studies are normal. Follow-up: Rescan 4 weeks for growth and cvs. He said so far so good, and we can only know whether baby is fine after birth, well, I hope so. I am getting confused by these doctors.

Alamak Bad News Again

Yesterday we went to see my wife's cardiologist, everything is fine with my wife, she's feeling good and when doctor asked how many flights of stairs she can climb, I said 4-5, doctor commented that she's doing good. So nothing much yesterday, just see doctor and take medication and to visit again in April. I think this cardiologist is the best doctor ever, very friendly, humble and knowledgeable, my wife really like him haha. And today we went to get a scan at Kent Ridge FCC, we arrived at about 9.55am, registered and waited until about 10.30am, I told the counter staff that we have a 10.45am appointment at the gynae clinic and she said there's one patient before us, so we waited until about 11.05am, I got fed up and told the counter staff to cancel the registration, then she asked me to wait, I said I will wait for 5 more minutes, if still have to wait then we will leave, in the end we left but she called me to try to get us to go back and I insisted not to, only wh

Went to NUH and Mom House

Today went to the O&G clinic G, saw the doctor, nothing much, she did a basic scan and everything seems ok, my wife complained of regular burps and gases, doctor says it's normal if it's not every few minutes thing, due to tummy expanding and pushing up the stomach. So today didn't pay much, only pay $46 for repeat consultation. After that we took taxi to my mom's house, visit early since she will be going to Malacca during CNY with father so I wanted to give her ang pow first. This year didn't give much, $50 for mom $50 for father, $10 for niece and $10 for nephew, that's it. Then we went to re-contract my mobile line, I got the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G 8GB White for $99, I retain my power value 100, still don't want to get data plan haha, no use for it actually so no point paying that extra money. Now wondering how much I can sell, the xiaomi site is $229, if sell shop I think at most they take $150, don't know see how.

Phew, Good News Today

We saw the paediatric cardiologist at clinic A, she did a scan which lasts more than an hour and she said she didn't see anything wrong so far but she wants to confirm with a follow-up scan two weeks later because currently wife is 20 weeks pregnant and the baby is small and difficult to get a good scan at the heart, but so far so good, the main valves looks normal, nothing unusual and she just wants to confirm again that the heart is okay on the next visit. The doctor mentioned that the baby is feisty, from the scan I can see baby is very active, always moving around lol. What a relief, I thought I was going to get bad news today, lucky everything seems fine, my mother-in-law even went to pray for the baby, maybe that worked. Wife is complaining how come need to go to so many clinic and do so many scans, looking back we initially went to the O&G, then they referred us to the women's clinic, then women's clinic referred us to child clinic which is the clinic A that

Went to NUH Kent Ridge Wing Fetal Care Centre

Today went to do the specialized scan again, everything is normal except for the heart, baby is suffering from  Atrioventricular Septal Defect aka AVSD , and this time a professor reviewed the results, he say the Amniocentesis Test is too risky for my wife as she is on Warfarin and the needle will need to pass through the placenta which means there is a risk of bleeding, so he offered an alternative which is to do DNA testing. Of course I choose the DNA testing because it's safer for my wife. I think we better make sure, if have then we'll do the practical (and sensible) thing which is to terminate, it's good for everyone, if don't have then we'll keep pushing on. I hope don't have, my family don't have, her family also don't have, I think very likely our baby won't have, but hard to say, better make sure. See I'm thinking so much, lucky we went for the test, after that no need to think so much. Looking at cost, the amnio test cost $600+, the

Went for Gynae Appointment Just Now

We went very early this morning for the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, today my wife never vomit so we managed to finish it, have to take blood once, drink a bottle of sweet water, wait for 2 hours and then take blood again. We also went for a scan, the scan damn expensive, $175, anyway that's not a big issue compared to a hole in the baby's heart. Yep, the scan detected a hole in the central area of the heart, everything else seems normal, so we are scheduled to go back in a week's time to do the amnio fluid test to confirm if the baby has down syndrome. The gynae say of all heart defects, a hole in the heart is the least to worry about, that gave us some relief, we were worried sick, until no words can come out, we were stunned when we heard about the hole. Anyway after we reached home, I did some research, seems like a hole in the heart might not be a big problem, some adults actually live with it, only thing is they get tired more easily, the fortunate ones their hole

Seen Cardiologist Today

Today went to see Dr. James Yip, big doctor really different, experienced, know what is happening and what will happen next, have plan in mind, my wife also like him very much, say don't change doctor just stick to him. So today also nothing much, my wife feels fine, doctor did blood pressure and ECG, so far so good, will see him next year February. My wife's INR reading also good, yesterday checked was 3.0, now taking 3mg everyday, Dr. James also say as long as below 5mg per day the risk will be lower, actually I read about it too, just give it a try, better than taking the Heparin, imagine sticking needle to your stomach twice a day, anyway all that's over for now, we are now looking forward to 34 or 35 weeks, that is the time my wife can prepare for delivery, it will be by Cesarean delivery.

Pass Down Syndrome Scan

Today went to see gynae and she said the down syndrome scans came back very good, which means baby is fine, sigh of relief for me and wife. Today also didn't spend much, just see the doctor for the test result, and just now do the oral glucose tolerance test, it's a test for diabetes, my wife vomited out the glucose syrup, so have to test another day, will test on 30 Dec when we see the cardiologist. But so far my wife is feeling fine, she also don't want to do the glucose test because she's sure she doesn't have diabetes but I say better to be safe than sorry.

Today See Gynae with Wife

Did ultrasound and baby seems fine, heart beat looks strong, very active baby, look like me, neck long, I think it's a boy, head also big like me. Also took my wife's blood for the down syndrome test, my wife said they took 4 tubes! And from the scan, seems like baby is not at high risk for down syndrome but let's wait for the blood test result. Now what if baby has down syndrome, if my wife wants to continue then so be it, I anything, but down syndrome kids will have a tough life ahead... then again I see that these group of people are well supported, what I'm worried about is what happens if we are no longer there, who is going to take care of him/her. Today the bill is $339.80, before government subsidy is $444, so having PR is good for this reason, imagine no PR today have to pay $444. And just now when I went upstairs to pay for my wife's hospital bill, saw one uncle and auntie looking quite surprised when they received their bill, heard is $31K, think their

Bought Ogawa Felix Touch Handheld Massager for Wife

She keeps complaining of feeling tired, arms ache, back ache, leg ache everywhere ache, and ask me to massage I also tired haha, so today after seeing the gynae at NUH, we headed to Clementi Mall and checked out both Osim and Ogawa, by the way gynae say baby doing fine. First we went to Osim, their handheld massagers are very limited, wife don't like their design, so we went to Ogawa, saw the Felix Touch and wife like it, the salesman told me now got promotion, buy 1 free 1, so I asked him how much, he said one piece is $99, buy 2 is $138, inside I'm thinking how is that buy 1 free 1 lol, anyway 2 for $138 also sounds good right, so we ended up buying 2 pieces. Then later when I saw the invoice, I noticed per piece pricing is actually only $69, so 2 for $138 la, this kind of tactic also can, but I also don't want to make things difficult for him, I take it as never see the invoice. Anyway the massager quality seems good, buy 2 pieces can give my wife's mom one. And th

Seen Gynae at NUH Today

We went to the high risk clinic and they told us the same thing that the gynae at SGH told us during our first try so nothing new to us, anyway my wife and I have already decided to continue the pregnancy and of course we don't want to terminate, yeah there's always the risk but if we don't give it a shot, how would we know, and not as if a healthy woman don't have any risk, pregnancy always comes with risk, just a matter of high or low and how we manage it. I think the key thing is whether my wife feels okay or not, right now she's feeling fine, just the usual nausea, feeling tired, I think most if not all pregnant women feels like that, it's a hormonal thing so it's mostly beyond control.

Wife May Be Able to Discharge Tomorrow

My wife told me this morning one of the doctor on duty came to see her and told her she may be able to discharge on next Wednesday, then after a while the senior doctor which is the cardiologist who have seen my wife previously, he came and told her she may be able to be discharged tomorrow, very confusing right but of course we believe the senior doctor, the on-duty doctors really small fry and have no idea what's going on, cannot believe them at all, even the nurse know more than them, really jia lat. Anyway the senior said my wife can do the INR reading by herself since she has the test kit, and she is to see him one week later, sounds good, senior doctor really different, can tell you what's happening now and later, those small fry doctors really make my blood boil, totally cannot make it, I wonder how these people survive outside if they are not doctor, in my company with this kind of standard I don't think they can last long, surely kena customer complain, fail SLA,
