Next month going to Bangkok to bring wife's mother and cousin to SG to help us as baby going for operation. So just now went to change Thai Baht, changed $750 for 19,050 Baht, rate is 25.40, now so high, good time to change. Now thinking of what hotel to book, wife's mother and cousin never been to Bangkok much as they are from rural area so I am thinking of getting a good hotel for them to enjoy, too bad my house in SG is pathetic, sigh, no money to buy a larger flat, hope can win Toto and then I'll buy a condo in Bangkok ;)

Today came home 7+ so went to try my luck to see anything to eat there, found this new Bak Chor Mee stall, person tending the stall is a young man, saw the price quite surprised, nowadays not easy to find this kind of pricing, the Laksa also same price. So I tried the Mee Poh Bak Chor Mee, damn power, for this kind of price the ingredients not stingy at all, some they sell cheap but ingredients not much, this one different. Note that takeaway extra $0.20 but ok la, noodle so good, $0.50 I also don't mind. Must go back again.

Product link. I hand-carry and took taxi home so no delivery charge. It's packed in two long flat boxes, the shorter one can fit into the boot of the taxi together with our pram, but the longer one cannot so good thing the taxi uncle don't mind that we put behind at the passenger seat, so my wife and baby cramp behind and I sat in front, just nice. It was easy to assemble, no drilling required, just need a big cross screwdriver and the rest comes together with the package. I like this table, fit just nice and very stable, solid purchase.

Today we got adventurous and decided to travel to the food centre at Holland Drive, never been there before, thought it would be nice to explore since there is also a NTUC Fairprice there. So we ordered the $15 claypot rice (they have $10 version too), looks really nice but smells burnt, to be honest we don't eat claypot rice at all so we don't know what is good or bad, I did try but that was a very long time ago. Anyway me and wife don't really like it very much, rice is tough, ingredients very salty, overall very greasy, maybe this is what claypot rice is about just that we don't know how to appreciate it. One ang mo asked me where I got my claypot rice, I pointed him to the right direction, seems like he also traveled there for food.

Her operation date is getting closer, I'm actually a bit worried even though I trust the healthcare staff at NUH, I think no matter how good they are, I guess it's natural for me to worry, hope everything will go well. Just a bit scared, what if something goes wrong, what if we lose her, it's just very scary to even think about it, but looking at the positive side, NUH have done many of such operations so to them it's probably like a walk in the park. They have this statistics on heart surgeries from 2009 to 2014, seems to me like very impressive numbers, but strange that they don't have numbers for 2015 and 2016, hopefully those are as impressive as past years.

Yesterday sold all my stocks, only two and both are REITs, got tired of holding REITs, nowadays REITs seems to be doing worse in terms of both share price and dividend, both on downtrend, if hold long-term I think not a good idea, unless keep averaging but it's still pointless if the share price doesn't go up, it's like trying to fill up a bottomless pit. So I decided to bite the bullet and sell at a total loss of $1366.61, but all-time earning still got $1,331.41, so still alright la, but looking back, that means ever since I started investing in Nov 2012, until now only earn $1,331.41, kind of miserable, but still better than putting in fixed deposit or worse, keep in savings account. I can only say low risk, low gain. Now cash have about $35K, of which $30K is spare cash, the other $5K for expenses and baby operation costs next month. Today we went to see her surgeon, he explained to us why the operation is necessary, basically if we don't do it now, as she grows older her condition will damage other parts of her organs, such as her lung, by then it would be another kind of problem that we have to deal with, so best is just do it now and solve the problem at its root. We asked if there is alternative to open-heart surgery, he said for her case no because he needs to patch the hole, problem is there is a missing part, so he needs to use some of her tissue for patching. He mentioned that most likely in her lifetime she only needs to do it once, hopefully that is the case. So now we fixed the surgery date in Nov, they also emailed me the estimated cost for C and B2 wards: C Ward B2 Ward Seems like C or B2 I probably don't need to pay any cash, all can pay by Medisave, but I will just choose C, no point choosing higher and pay more.

Toilet Got Stuck

My toilet was stuck for about a week, the water took some time to drain unlike previously after flush it immediately drained, I guess something got stuck inside. I bought a large pump for $8.50, also bought a bottle of drain cleaner solution for $5, tried both doesn't work, ended up making it worse. So I ordered a toilet auger at Amazon, it's a Cobra 3 feet toilet auger, $12.95 USD, shipping cost is $41.91, total $54.86 USD. It could be cheaper but I want it fast so I choose priority shipping so it was much more expensive. Then yesterday my wife managed to unclog the thing with a smaller hand pump, wtf, I wasted $13.50 for those two useless things. So I tried to cancel my Amazon order, good thing is they haven't ship so cancelling is very straightforward, just cancel and they emailed me to inform that cancellation successful, no charge made to my credit card since they haven't ship the thing. Last week after eat medicine was okay, but still had a few minor outbursts, then today notice something weird, if I scratch my skin, the area that I scratched will get itchy, I tried drawing 1, 2 and 3, see second picture, the bumps come out as what I had drawn, wtf. So when a pokemon appears, just press it and it will activate the phone camera, it's just like any camera just that the pokemon appears in the camera, looks kind of real. Seen baby's cardiologist today, she referred us to a surgeon who will do her heart surgery to close the hole. We will see the surgeon in about 2 week's time. Wife is not keen on the surgery but after some persuasion from the staff, she agreed to do it. I think it's good that the operation is done when she is still very young, when she gets older she probably won't even remember it, and by then the scar would have healed and can't see a thing. Anyway wife wants MIL to come, also good, if her mother is here at least she won't be so worried, but I trust our doctors more than those in Thailand, our surgical standard is very high, that's what I believe.

I think very likely the cause is the fish cakes that I bought at Tiong Bahru Market last Friday. I bought their giant fish balls, tau kwa with fish paste and fish rolls with crab stick and veggie. The fish rolls tasted funny, wonder if it was because I bought in the day and ate in the evening, but my wife ate already no problem, only me, I think I might be allergic to something in the fish, tau kwa cannot be, should be the fish paste, don't know what fish is it. Now I know why they put the pandas there, because River Safari is boring, it's mostly fishes, if you like fish then it's great, the aquariums very beautiful but like I said, mostly fishes. Panda also nothing much to see, have to queue up, very long queue, limited number of people can go in at any point of time, go in the pandas also hiding, but managed to get some footage of one, kind of boring, don't know what's the buzz with pandas. I think the best is still Singapore Zoo la, more things to see, actually I like Night Safari the most, go at night very thrilling, following is my conclusion on the 4 parks: Singapore Zoo - Best Variety. Night Safari - Most Thrilling. Jurong Bird Park - Smelliest Park. River Safari - Most Boring Park.

Henry's Chicken Rice

Weekend ALWAYS so long queue, if want to eat best is to go on weekdays, but weekdays need to work leh, furthermore weekdays after lunch they close shop already. I think Henry's roasted chicken is one of the best, can fight with Wee Nam Kee but I think Wee's is more fragrant, Henry's is more tender, personally I think Wee's better but chilli-wise, no need to fight, Henry's chilli is the best that I have ever eaten, I like to pour it over my chicken rice, super power, see picture below. As for rice, so far Henry's managed to maintain the same consistency, at least for me, some stalls sometimes the rice good, sometimes bad, Henry's so far very standard, the rice very nice, I think can just eat with chilli no need chicken also very power.

It's the same kind of feeling that I get before I left my previous jobs without landing a job first. Last time I left my job was in 2009, when I could no longer stand my immediate supervisor, I threw letter without thinking of the consequences, it felt great but in the comings months it was shit, getting a job took quite a while, it was about 3 months before I found a new job, imagine 3 months of being unproductive, no income and living on savings, and it could have been worse. Right now I'm thinking of applying for another job, but then again, if I can't stay on at my current job, what are the chances that I can stay on at a new job, what if the new job is worse, who knows. If you ask me I would say the only time when one should find a new job is when the current job is not offering adequate compensation, right now I feel that my compensation is alright, it's just the people that I have to deal with, sometimes I just feel like throwing my laptop at their faces. J

This Month So Cold

After a few hot weeks, suddenly keep raining, I think yesterday and today the coldest, yesterday cold until have sneeze attack, today put on clothes so not that bad, but still shivering a bit. I think the rain will last until August then will start to get hot again, hopefully not as hot as June. Anyway today while talking to a colleague from China, he told me the Alibaba Yu'e Bao interest rate drop to 0.6 Yuan per 10,000 Yuan, which comes to about 2.19% per annum, he said last time was 4.5%, this will probably mean something, maybe it is linked to recent bullish markets? Chinese people putting their funds into markets instead of Yu'e Bao? Who knows STI will cross 3,000.

These two weeks STI risen quite a lot, about 200 points, my stocks also almost recover from losses, now just a little bit to break-even, but don't know whether this will last, STI siao siao, other markets up it only up a little, other markets down, it down a lot lol. But put money in stocks still better than putting in bank la, bank interest rate so miserable, fixed deposit only a little bit better.

These few days the weather really hot, I set my aircon to 25 degrees, the room will only cool down to around 28.5, if no aircon, room temperature is between 32-33, wah piang. After my first RT session, I thought all following sessions will be sibei relax, wah enjoy aircon and slack, each session after that getting more and more siong, was it because somebody at MINDEF read my post and feedback to army lol. Last Sunday they made us do squats with medicine ball, squat, hold and repeat until my legs soft, after that run up slope with the ball, come down and do squats and push-up chest touch the ball, the push-up I just do ultra half-fuck since I have pectoral strain, reminds me of my NSF days, run somewhere touch something then come back. Just received a letter from my medical centre saying that I am permanently excused from push-ups, I checked at NS Portal and they downgraded me to PES B2 L2 with no expiry date, I guess that means my new PES status is permanent too. So I googled and managed to find information on my new PES status, from the link you can also find information on other PES statuses. Info on PES B2 So I still need to take IPPT but can be excused up to two stations, but I only need to be excused from push-up since I can still do sit-up and running, but I think I'll just go take at SAFRA since no money anyway. And seems like my next and also my last ICT I might get posted to HQ, so maybe no need to do my usual reservist training stuff, also good la, if ask me to chiong later pectoral really tear then how, my last ICT already I just want to relax and get it over with safely.

I bought it at Watsons, the brand is Medix, $59.90, it comes with everything, power adapter, batteries and cuff, basically can use right out of the box. Checked my blood pressure is 129/76, seems to have improved significantly from last check , I guess the coconut water that I have been drinking helps. At first I bought the UFC brand, after that I found that the potassium is very high, so I switched to Tipco brand. Potassium is good for body but too much can cause problem , like people always say, eat in moderation.

Few days ago I received a call-up stating that my annual ICT is next year Jan, just nice 3 months before my birthday, which means if I clear my RT for this year, no need to take any more IPPT, summary it means that this is my last ICT and my last IPPT, swee la. So counting this one, I would have cleared 7 high-keys, I have many low keys so no worry about that, this time confirm MR, after that must celebrate, but knowing that I'm not an extravagant person, I will probably celebrate by myself in a simple manner, my wife probably don't even care, she never been in army so she don't know my suffering.

That day I went for health screening and found that my blood pressure was too high, today I received the report, shows the same blood pressure number, systolic is 146, normal should be less than 130. Another alert is my cholesterol, Total Cholesterol is 231.60, normal should be less than 200, and Triglycerides is 288.84, normal should be less than 200 too. The rest of the readings are within normal range. I think losing weight and eating more omega 3 acid is the way to go, tomorrow go run, after that buy some omega 3 milk and tuna.

Today while reading Asiaone.com, I chanced upon a Qoo10 link that says "USS One Day Pass: $48 only on Qoo10", this same ticket would cost $74 if you purchase it at their official site, so wow, $26 cheaper, why not buy it right? But as I clicked the link, it brought me to a page where I have to select an option at the bottom before I can proceed, so I choose Adult, end up have to add another $16 before I can buy it, final price is $64 instead of the advertised $48! Since adult price is $64, why not just advertise as $64? Shows $48 here End up $64
