Long-Term Visit Pass - Plus (LTVP-PLUS)

http://www.ica.gov.sg/news_details.aspx?nid=12665

Good news for those of us who cannot get PR for our beloved spouse, because the Singapore government has come up with a enhanced long-term visit pass called LTVP-PLUS or LTVP+. I'll sum up the key points in the FAQ provided by ICA so you don't have to go through one big page.

Do let me know if I missed out anything or correction is required by dropping a comment.

GENERAL
  • LTVP+ will be in effect from 01 Apr 2012.
  • LTVP+ holders will enjoy extended duration of residency, public healthcare subsidies and easier access to employment.
  • No separate application required for LTVP+; an application for LTVP will automatically include your spouse for LTVP+, if eligible.
  • LTVP applications submitted from 01 Feb 2012 will automatically be considered for LTVP+.
  • The first approved LTVP+ will grant 3 years residency and subsequent renewal will be 5 years.
  • Current holders of LTVP will be considered for LTVP+ on next renewal. If holders of LTVP wishes to be considered for LTVP+ earlier, may submit new LTVP application, but note that processing and issuance fees apply.
  • Singaporean and LTVP+ holder may only purchase resale flat; unless they have a Singaporean child then they may purchase a new flat direct from HDB.

ELIGIBITY
  • Only spouse of Singapore citizen will be eligible for LTVP+; spouse of PR can only apply for LTVP.
  • Couples with at least a Singaporean child will be eligible, but for those without child and married for at least 3 years will stand a higher chance. ICA will also look at financial capability of sponsor and good conduct of sponsor and applicant.
  • Pregnant spouse may also apply for LTVP+.
  • Foreign widow of Singaporean with Singaporean child will be eligible.
  • ICA will consider valid foreign marriage certificate or proof that the marriage is recognized in the country of marriage.

HEALTHCARE
  • Public hospital subsidy; ward A 0%, B1 10%, B2+ 30%, B2 45%, C 60%, Day Surgery 0%, Specialist Outpatient Clinic 0%, A&E 0%.

EMPLOYMENT
  • Employer need to apply for Letter of Consent (LOC) from Ministry of Manpower (MOM) before LTVP+ holder may commence work.
  • No administrative fee incurred by employer for the application of Letter of Consent.
  • Duration of consent granted depends on the employer and LTVP+ expiry date.
  • Consent is renewable as long as the LTVP+ has at least 3 months validity.
  • LTVP+ holder may only work for one employer and hold only one LOC at any point of time.
  • LTVP+ holder is not allowed to set up business.
  • LTVP+ holder may change job. Employer should cancel the Letter of Consent within seven days after resignation and prospective employer should apply for a new consent from MOM.
  • No limit to how many LTVP+ holders a company can employ and LTVP+ holders will not count towards a company's foreign worker quota.
  • No foreign worker levy imposed for hiring LTVP+ holders.
  • Existing work pass holders may submit LTVP+ application. Upon collection of LTVP+ from ICA, work pass will be cancelled. ICA will issue a temporary approval letter so that work may continue but employer need to apply for Letter of Consent before the temporary approval expire.

PROCESSING TIME
  • LTVP+ application may take 6 weeks.
  • Letter of Consent may take 1 week.

FEES
  • Fees to pay are the same between LTVP and LTVP+; $30 processing fee and $60 issuance fee, additional $30 if visa is required.

We have applied for ltvp. It was not approved. Then we appealed for my husband's ltvp. But not successful even with the appeal. Does anyone know what we can do now? Please help!!

Hi, Our LTVP Application is 7 weeks already, today we received an email for appointment mentioning they are willing to consider our application and for us to bring some original documents down next week.

Anyone encountered this before and know what it means?

My wife is a Malaysian WP holder and I am SC, I have a stable job with monthly CPF contribution, salary about 3.5k.

Hope to get some advice. Thanks in advance!
TUTU said…
Hi Ivania,

bringing original documents down is normal. if i remember correctly, after verifying your original documents, either you can collect LTVP pass on the spot or need to wait a few more days. you need to make sure ALL the original documents are ready.

Your wife's LTVP is more or less (90%) confirmed already.

Hi Anonymous(whos LTVP application got rejected)

You need to provide more information for us. For now, your spouse need to leave singapore once the Social visit pass expires.

Are you Singapore Citizen? If you are, then your spouse can use the marriage cert to come back to singapore after about 3 days. Just show the marriage cert at immigration if you encounter any problems.

I m singapore citizen. We r very puzzled as usually upon entry, visa is 30 days. But after leaving, they gave us 14 instead. Also, we appealed once for my hubby ltvp, but rejected. Had no idea what is the situation n even how to write the appeal letter. Any suggestion??

Hi bro, my wife from thai can't find her original highest level education cert. When is she required to submit the original copy to ica? Is it that important to have it? Pls advise. Thank you.

Hi, i would like to enquire something as i'm worry that my wife ltvp might be reject, i just got married to my Thai wife. Applied for ltvp 1 week ago. May i know my chances from your experience. I hold a monthly gross of $2300 but with ot is will be gross of $2500 to $3000. Question is how are my chances be as i heard from people that salary must be $2500 for higher chance to success? as for now my ltvp statue is still receiving attention.
willy said…
hi, forget to mention i'm a SC
Oh wow, I didn't know comments limit is 200, got to click the Newer link to see the rest!

To Anonymous on May 24, 2015, 11:45:00 PM: For entry visa it's up to ICA to grant so nothing much we can do about it. As for appealing rejected LTVP, check out this link for details: http://www.ifaq.gov.sg/ICA/apps/fcd_faqmain.aspx#FAQ_30377

To Anonymous on May 24, 2015, 11:48:00 PM: You can email me, see Contact button at the top.

To Anonymous on Jun 1, 2015, 6:38:00 PM: If can't find the educational cert, then just tell ICA you don't have it, I think unless it's a degree then I guess it doesn't really matter much, like my wife only Sec 6, submit or not like no difference haha, anyway you and I is the sponsor so they will look at us more than the foreign spouse.

Hi Willy, I think if your salary is 1.5k and above, you should be fine, but most important is you have a stable job with regular income. So don't worry and be patient. By the way did you go for the pre-marriage assessment? If yes, then nothing to worry about, if no, I think have to wait quite long for the approval.
willy said…
I did not go through the pre marriage assessment ...Thanks alot for the reply
Hi Willy,

I hope ICA don't mean it when they say those who didn't go through pre-marriage have to wait up to 6 months for the LTVP! Anyway you can only wait, during my time there is no such thing as pre-marriage assessment, now they changed the rule so I really can't help much.

Hi,
Where can i do the translation Malay to English? And how much its cost?
Thank you
SK said…
Hi Yatie,
There are many translation companies in Singapore that you can find online,
price varies.. U may also try contacting your embassy and check if they provide translation service. After translating the documents, you will need to bring the translated document to the respective Embassy.

Hi,
I am a SC and my wife is currently holding a LTVP, and her pass will expire in September.
She is now 2 months pregnant, I am planning to renew her pass later this month.
For the proof of her pregnancy, is it a letter from the doctor?
Or is there a form for the doctor to fill up?

Thanks
CC
Hi,

You can bring her to gynae, they will examine her and then give an Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD), ask for the letter and they will give it to you.

Hi Mun Wai,

See this link: http://www.ica.gov.sg/data/resources/docs/Visitor%20Services/MedicalReport.pdf

Since she is renewing, she has to come back to SG to see GP for the checkup.

You don't have to apply social visit pass for her, when she enter SG, they will give her 30 days stay, so during that period try to settle all the stuff, if not enough time, you can always bring her to ICA to extend her stay.

Best of luck!
Hi SingViet,

Don't worry too much, just bring whatever they ask for and go for the appointment on time, just my guess, since your wife is pregnant, I don't think they will make things difficult for you, ICA is not completely heartless.

Wish you the best!

My friend's Thai wife travelled here many times before marriage but soon after marriage, she got deported even showing a copy of the marriage certificate, return airticket and cash! The LTVP application got rejected, appeal after appeal and now got to wait for processing! Anyone in this situation? Help!
Hi TUTU,

Did the officer handling the appeal say anything? I think there could be something that we don't know about, the marriage certificate doesn't guarantee her stay here, only a valid visit pass can guarantee her stay, however she has to abide by our laws. Usually for those who have bad record, it will be very difficult for them to get the LTVP, or the sponsor doesn't meet the hidden criteria of ICA, either I know it's very sad, have your friend speaking to his/her MP? If they have children, tell the MP so he can write a stronger appeal letter for you.

Best of luck.

Hi marrythaigirlsingapore,
Congrats for your new baby.
And thanks for setting up this website, really appreciate your help.

I have just submitted the LTVP renewal for my wife (first time doing renewal), found that the online process is shorter than first time application. But puzzled that they asked the same questions as the first time.

May i know how long is the processing time?
She is pregnant now, will she be given a LTVP+?

Thanks in advance
CC
Hi,

Thanks and glad you life this blog.

For renewal is up to 6 weeks, but sometimes they might do it faster so it depends. For my wife's case, our renewals are between 4-5 weeks if I remember correctly.

If she is pregnant, I think they will, just see how it goes.

Best of luck!

Hi host, long time didn't hear from u, is everything ok?
This evening juz got outcome from ICA, i received my IPA email!! Some questions here, they only ask for medical report n make payment before 6/Aug, never ask or give me appt date to go down ICA to submit necessary forms... so how?? One more thing, my wife is pregnant, n already did some blood tests(HIV n DOWN syndrome) 02 months ago, whether can use this report... or must she goes for medical examination again?? Pls help to clear my doubts... thks alot.
Hi to poster at Jun 26, 2015, 11:56:00 PM,

LTVP do not count towards foreigners quota, also do not have to pay foreign workers levy.

Hi SingViet,

Yeah we are fine, I've been updating my blog quite frequently.

Congratulations!

After you make payment, they will ask you to book appointment date if I remember correctly. So on appointment date, you will need to submit all the documents, your spouse will also get her LTVP on same day.

Call ICA and check with them, but I don't think can reuse as it's a different medical report, they will need HIV test and TB x-ray, maybe can ask whether can skip the TB x-ray since your wife is pregnant. But if really need to do x-ray, have to inform the specialist so they will take care not to scan the baby.

Hi Everybody
My application is approved. So for now im waiting for my completion of formality on this coming 27 july. My problem is i saw a discrepancy on divorced decease date of my husband. Im afraid they will reject us right away when we submitted the original copy.
what should i do? Any advise for me?
Thank you
Hi yatierashid,

Congratulations!

If you notice the discrepancy, better to call ICA and see what they say, if it's a writing error, they will probably ask you to write the correct date and then counter sign, I don't think it will be a big problem.

Hi,

my wife is a foreigner and already has LTVP. She has secured a job recently as a shop assistant. Does she require to hold on to a physical Work Permit Pass, or is her Work Permit tied to her LTVP, so she is just holdin to one physical pass? I'm afraid that the shop/company told her that her work permit is secured but in fact they did not do anything about applying for her. Thanks for replying in advance!

QP
Hi,

If you are Singaporean or PR, then no need work permit, employer just need to apply the LOC for her, and MOM will also give her a copy, it is a letter to state that she is allowed to work in Singapore.

If you are worried, you can check with MOM directly.

Better to call them, should be faster:

My foreign wife has trouble with airlines counter & immigration officer asking for return ticket. She is coming to apply for LTVP+. I am a local & our marriage in Spore. Do I really need to book a return ticket & what date of return?
Hi Pha,

Starting from 2015, all SG/Foreigner couples have to go through the assessment or face longer LTVP application, can be up to 6 months..

Hi to poster at Aug 1, 2015, 12:15:00 AM,

Which country is she from? If immigration requires her to show return ticket, then just book for her, usually I would book 30 days from day of arrival.
Anonymous said…
Thanks. She is a Viet. I have already bought a 1-way return ticket valid for less than 30days. We went through PMLTPA but was rejected. Now we know it will take longer. Will our LTP+ application be jeopardized if she returns to home country while waiting for approval?
Hi,

During approval it's okay to return home, but best is to just stay here in case they call both of you to go to ICA for interview, so you don't have to fly back and forth.

HI marrythaigirlsingapore,
I submitted the renewal for my wire's LTVP on 24 June.
Its almost 6 weeks now and the status is still 'receiving attention'.
I emailed ICA yesterday and received no replies so far.
I am a bit worried now, does a renewal need to take so long?
Any advices?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Did you go through the pre-marriage ltvp assessment? If no then it will take longer. Those who went through and approved will be considered first.

Hi,
We did not go through the pre-marriage ltvp assessment as she was issued her one year ltvp September last year.
I submitted the renewal on June 24, and so far the status is still 'receiving attention'.
it's already 6 weeks, what is taking them so long?

Thanks for your time.
CC
So sorry, just noticed that you submitted renewal and not new application, I think you should call them directly to check, usually the renewal should be approved within 6 weeks.
Anonymous said…
Hi marrythaigirlsingapore,
I emailed them on Monday, but no reply.
So I called them this morning and she said it may take 6-8 weeks.
I also confirmed with her that the renewal is done on the e-VPAA website (not on the e-VP website).
Any way, we will go down to ICA to enquire tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi all this is Anna come back for updates (I posted earlier on June 2014). My case is similar to Sim, from LTVP to LTVP Plus and now I'm PR. But it takes long time to get PR (8 months to get appointment date and another 9 months to get approval letter). My hubby salary 3K with me no working n a baby living in his parents house. Just to share,,it's from my friend who got rejected 3 times for PR, she told me if u get the letter within 2-3 months most probably its a rejection but if u get it around 6 months higher chance its approved. For my case it took 9 months.

Hi everyone,
Please refer to my posts on Aug 4 and Aug 5.
I submitted my wife's LTVP renewal on June 24, and after 6 weeks, the status is still 'receiving attention'.

So we went to ICA level 4 on Aug 6, the officer at the desk (do not queue at the long queue, queue to see the officer at the left most side) told us that they are currently handling a large number of applications, was told that this is because they are now also handling LTVP applications for MOM.
She checked our application and said that the application is fine, just that they are handling a lot more applications and will need a longer time.

I was really anxious for the last 2 weeks, checking the status a few times everyday, now all we can do is to wait another week and see.

So my suggestion to those who are going to renew LTVP is to do so early.
At least 8 weeks for processing and approval and another 4 weeks for appointment.

CC

Hi CC
We received the in-principle approval on 31Jul and the formalities are to be completed within 2 months. The earliest available appt was 1st week of Sep.
Anonymous said…
Hi HC,
Thanks for your reply.

That means we may have to wait another 2 more weeks for the results, and after that, the earliest available appointment date will be in late September.
And since my wife's current LTVP will expire early September, we will need to go ICA to extent her stay to the appointment date.

Thanks again.

Hi All,
We received the in-principle approval today, the processing took about 8 weeks.
ICA also automatically extended my wife's current pass by one month till early October, so that we have enough time to book an appointment to complete the formalities.
The earliest available date is 30 September.

Dear marrythaigirlsingapore,

I really appreciate this blog of yours and its ability to post comments for sharing experiences, thus alleviating anxiety for good spouses, myself included :)

I am a SPR and my wife is a Cambodian. I have been living in Singapore for 19 years. I submitted LTVP application on July 16th 2015 but to-date, the status is still RECEIVING ATTENTIION. Tomorrow is going to be the 6th week.

We were married in May 2015 but were only able to obtain our marriage cert on July 14th at her hometown commune office (due to red tapes from Ministry of Interior), she submitted the marriage cert for English-language translation at the Cambodian's Ministry of Foreign Affair that evening in Phnom Penh, translated document was ready the day after and she flew into Singapore on the July 16th.

Not sure if the ICA would find it suspicious due to our recent activities as we needed to fly in-and-out very often. Below is the breakdown.

- After submitting our LTVP application, we flew to BKK for our short 3-days trip. Considered a mini-honeymoon.

- About three weeks after our LTVP submission, we had to fly to my hometown for our wedding (groom's side). This trip was planned in advance before our marriage cert has been issued.

- As we need to produce a return air-ticket, just in case we were asked at CGK airport and SIN immigration, I arranged for her travel back to PNH on the Aug 19th. She was asked politely by the immigration officer on the purpose of her entry into Singapore that night. I foresee she will have problems entering Singapore on her next trip here if LTVP IPA has not been granted.

Kindly advise from experience, due to our recent "activities", do you think our applications will be deemed suspicious and high chance of getting rejected?

Not sure if this is relevant but do they consider our education background and income? She has a master degree and I have bachelor degree from a local university here.

Now, instead of 6-weeks turn-around time, the application outcome will be 8 weeks?

Hope to hear reply from you and the experienced spouses.
Hi jyjyjy,

If you don't have your wife's education cert, then just tell them, most likely should be fine since they are more concerned with assessing your ability to support her.

Hi IndoKhmer,

I think now it can be up to 8 weeks as mentioned by some of my visitors, I think they probably have too many applications to handle, so give them another 2 weeks, and don't think too much about it and cause yourself un-necessary stress, as long as you accompany her and you can prove your relationship, I think everything will be fine.
jyjyjy said…
hi marrythaigirlsingapore,

how about my salary? will i stand a chance. my basic is about 2100 but my gross is around 2600-2800. as my just finish my NS oct last year therefore my cpf contribution only displayed 5 months. will this affect my chances?
Hi jyjyjy,

Don't worry, your salary is fine, my wife got her LTVP when I was earning $2200.

Nice blog... who has already renewed their 1st LTVP+ after 3 years. Surely it/the process isn't as lengthy or cumbersome as getting the original card.

Is it a full application process again, or basically issuing another card after fees and security clearance, over ones previous 3 yrs.?.

Has anyone who renewed their LTVP+ card been given less than 5 years.?.

Cheers and thanks - Mistletoad

reading the comments, I feel very very discouraged. I am an SC (born and bred, if it makes any difference). applied for my husband's PR and got rejected after 7 months. we appealed thru the MP and it was rejected within 10 days. so we decided to apply for an LTVP instead. my husband is currently on Employment Pass. we both earn around $4k and work for a reputable education institution. to date, it has been 12 weeks since we submitted the LTVP application, and there's still no news. the LTVP would make things easier because if my husband switches jobs, he won't need to get an EP all over again etc. also, in case he doesn't get a job right away, at least he doesn't need to return to his home country. his job's contract is coming to an end in 5-6 months' time. we didn't go thru the pre-marriage assessment because we were married here before that was put into effect. really dunno what to do now. discouraged. :(

hi , im married with a thai wife for 2years plus , im currently working overseas and my wife is pregnant, if i were to apply for the ltvp, how many trips do i have to make to ica ?
Hi discouragedgirl,

I think the reason if because government is trying to control the number of foreigners who are working here, but I think your LTVP might have a better chance. Now you can only wait, stay positive, best of luck!

Hi Anonymous at Sep 4, 2015, 1:24:00 AM,

It depends, for smooth cases, you only have to go there once which is to submit documents and collect the card. Some cases they will ask both of you to go there and submit document earlier, and collect card on another day.

Hi ,

I am a SPR and applying LTVP for my husband.
Recently obtained the approval from ICA after almost 10weeks application period.

The formalization appointment was only able to made by mid of October .

I would like to check if my husband can apply work permit ( he got job offer already) while waiting for the formalization process of LTVP?

Or

We can actually use the in principle approval of LTVP to apply LOC ?

Any idea?

Look forward for your favorable reply .

thanks !

Hi Samantha
base on my experience, my future company try to apply LOC using the principal of approval and rejected by MOM as the system shown that you have not gotten your long term visit pass.

Im very lucky my future company willing to wait for me and I hope your husband's future company willing to wait too.

Good luck!

thanks for your encouragement. i am discouraged because as you can see, even SPRs are getting LTVPs approved for their spouses. not only was our PR application rejected, it's now been 3 months exactly since we applied for my spouse's LTVP. what is taking them so long? my husband is a master's degree holder from NUS. he is working in a good job and so am i. we are both middle income earners ($4k-5k). i am actually getting angry now! absolutely ridiculous. i thought the whole idea of switching to LTVP was encouraged for foreign spouses who are on work passes?!!!!!!!

Hi, I am a SC and recently married to a Vietnamese woman. I like to ask how much does it cost to have a baby in Singapore if my wife obtain a LTVP? What about LTVP plus? I understand about all these Ltvp system, but I am really worried I could not afford to have a baby.

Hi cdosmurf,

For LTVP, they are charged foreigner rates, for LTVP+, she will be eligible for ward subsidies, but not for day surgery, so I think c-section will not be subsidised.

But don't worry, if she is healthy then shouldn't be too expensive, but it's okay to have children later if you think you cannot manage, most important is settle down first.

Does anyone have any idea why is the appeal for LTVP taking so long? Is it a good sign that it is taking so long? It is almost 8 weeks. Should I give ICA a call?

Hi, Thanks for having this informative blog.

But I still have some question lol.

I am Thai just got married to a Singapore citizen for 2 months. We both live in Dubai because I am cabin crew and he has moved here to stay with me. But we are planning to go back to live in Singapore.

1st Q: He is currently unemployed in Singapore. Is it possible for me to apply for LTVP?

2nd Q: If he moves back to Singapore and while he is searching for job, can I stay with him in Singapore until he can get the employer's letter to apply LTVP for me?

We really dont want to be apart while he is searching for job and waiting for LTVP :(

Look forward to reading your advice.
Thanks in advance.
SK said…
Hi Nas,
as long as your husband is a singapore citizen/PR, you may try to apply for LTVP, although they do check on the "sustainability" of the couple, i.e education level, pay, etc etc.

Q1. He is currently unemployed in Singapore. Is it possible for me to apply for LTVP?
If I remember correctly, you can submit your application online and wait for ICA's reply, while you are not in Singapore.

Q2. If he moves back to Singapore and while he is searching for job, can I stay with him in Singapore until he can get the employer's letter to apply LTVP for me?
Unfortunately, if you doesn't have the LTVP, you are only allow to stay in Singapore for a period of 30 days. (or up to 3mths if you applied for extension of stay (subjected to approval))

My suggestion is: to try to submit an online application first, while you are still working and waiting for ICA's reply. Else both of you will be unemployed. I assumed that you and your husband did not went through the Pre-Marriage LTVP assessment, hence it might take a longer period for application to be processed.

Regards,
SK

Thanks SK for your suggestions,

Hi Gemuk,

During my time in 2010 yes, need to complete the medical checkup (TB and HIV) and bring the completed form (doctor sign/chop) on the day of completion of formalities. Hope it didn't change too much now.

Hi iewk,

Sorry to say but there is really nothing much you can do but wait, you can call or email but they will all tell you the same thing because they probably also don't know as they just most likely just clerks or customer service staff, I doubt they will have access to approval info. But stay positive.

hi, i previously wrote here as 'discouragedgirl'. after 4 months and 1 week, our application for my husband's LTVP has finally been approved. prior to that, the ICA officer called me to verify if i really had sponsored him. he also asked why i'm applying for LTVP for him and not PR. i said because that's what i was advised to do! not sure if he got the LTVP+ though, i think we will only know on the day we go down for the formalities (which is all the way in December).
Hi notdiscouragedanymoregirl,

Great to hear!

I think most likely he will be given LTVP first, unless you have been married for at least 3 years or you have a Singaporean child, anyway LTVP is still better than nothing ;)
Hi there,
I m glad to found this informative blog. Let's me share my experience here.
I m SC's spouse (Malaysian) worked in SG almost 5 years. Rom on May 2015 while holding WP. However I quit my job on June and applied LTVP on 15 June 2015. Guess what?! I hv been waited for 4 months 1 day... I think ICA just change their rules for SC's spouse has to wait up to 4-6 months time ;( And finally got IPA on 16 October 2015, just done my medical check up this morning and now waiting for completion of formalities on next month
To whoever still waiting for result pls to be patient ...and good luck!

anyone waited for 14 weeks and still waiting for ltvp?

what are the chances of extending the social visit pass again and again just to wait for ltvp approval?
SK said…
Hi Distressed,
Did you sign up for the "pre-marriage assessment" for LTVP before your marriage?
From what I'm aware of is that the waiting lead-time for LTVP application (without pre-marriage assessment) will take longer than that of those who have completed pre-marriage assessment; exact time varies.

As for extension of stay, a traveller who wishes to extend his/her stay in Singapore may apply for an extension of short term social visit pass if he/she:
- has not previously obtained an extension of stay on this trip.
- wishes to extend his/her stay up to 89 days from date of entry to Singapore.
- whose social visit pass currently has a remaining validity of not less than 2 days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

Do call ICA to clarify for your case, I remembered going to ICA with my wife to explain our situation and they issue an extension to 89 days from date of entry, which eventually was suffice for the completion of the LTVP application + completion of formality.

Hope these helps.

hi sk, we didnt have the pre assessment thingy. anyway we plan to see the MP for this issue. any chances of doing so?

btw.. we planning to go malaysia for holiday but worry that they wouldnt allow me to come back.. really stress....
SK said…
Hi Distressed,
this could be the likely reason that the approval of application taking longer than expected duration. As to be fair for those who diligently go thru the new Pre-marriage assessment and applying for LTVP. Nonetheless, a possible solution could be going to the MP, but you needa be very sure what you wanna him/her to do for you; i.e assisting on the extension for your spouse stay/ expediting the process for the application status?
I'll suggest the latter.

If you're leaving the country to Malaysia, then extension of stay at ICA won't help, as the extended visa for short term stay would be invalid upon your spouse leaving the country..
I suggest you call up ICA and seek their recommendations. IMO, if you are leaving the country with your spouse for holiday, do bring along hard copy of your LTVP application, photocopy of marriage cert, return air-tix, etc, in case the immigration office refused to allow her for re-entry, sometimes they quite nasty, i've personal experience when my spouse, then still gf, we wanted to beat the system to reset the short term visit pass validity, by leaving the country to Malaysia for a daytrip and returning in the evening. We were lucky&unlucky coz the Immigration officer stop her for entry as she just left in the morning. so we show him the air tix itinerary, and he wrote in red in her passport to the date of the airtix (3days), meaning the new short term visa issue at re-entry has only 3days validity.

So I'll recommend you to call ICA and seek their recommendations. Just in case you were planning to beat the system like i did before and failed.

Good Luck.

SK

Thanks sk for all the info..

I went to mp and they say also need wait 3 weeks to 1 month for reply.. issit true?
And even suggested that I go straight to ica and check and expedite is better..

Anyway I'm asking.. if I change the air ticket date to a later date for my spouse and we just go malaysia holiday.. after that will have problems back?
SK said…
Distressed,
What the volunteers at the MPS will just draft a request letter to ICA, and wait for their (ICA)reply. My recommendation will be making a trip with ur spouse to ICA for assistance. They can give your better advise on what are the possible way ahead.

As for the changing of air-tix date, personally i think it's a gamble, coz it really depends on luck and the mood of the Immigration officer that day. I've heard of stories abt pple being refused entry (stuck at custom and send back to origin country), you wouldn't wanna that to happened as it will tarnished the records of your spouse which will significantly affect subsequent application(s) for LTVP and even PR. (noting that the application form always ask if applicant has been refused entry into country before).

Possible outcome if you visit ICA:
1. they extend your spouse short term visit pass further (ideal case) but meaning she should not leave the country as it will void the validity of the short term visit pass.
Anyway after securing the LTVP, anytime also can go Malaysia. If i recalled correctly, i did that once, and the Immigration officer at the counter was quite nice and waived off the admin. fee for extending the short term visit pass.
2. they suggest your spouse to return to her country and come back after the approval of the LTVP application to complete the formality process..

or
3. if you still wanna try going to Malaysia for holiday and "gamble"/try, pls bring along copies of marriage cert/ltvp application records etc. and don't just make daytrip there.. make the trip to malaysia a 3-4 days event.

Regards,
SK.

finally.. i get IPA already.. just some simple enquiries.. after i book a date for appointment already. can i go down to ica as walk-in to complete my fomalities?

how long after completion of fomalities will i get the LTVP card?

if i extend my spouse stay already and after completion of fomalities and get card already, when she leave the country already, does she need to be at least 5 days later then can come back?

sorry.. abit noob...

Hi distressed,

The completion of formalities is by appointment only, better book and go on that day to avoid wasted trip.

You will get the LTVP card on the day of appointment.

Once she gets her LTVP, the extension don't matter anymore, the LTVP supersedes whatever visit pass the spouse has, and the spouse may enter and leave SG without any restriction. And by the way once the spouse has LTVP, the spouse can also use the express lane to enter Singapore instead of queuing up with other foreigners ;)

Hi,

LTVP is only for family of Singaporeans or PR, such as spouse, children or parents. - http://www.ica.gov.sg/services_centre_overview.aspx?pageid=376

As for EP, the relevant pass is Dependent's Pass, but it is only for your spouse or children, girlfriend is not eligible. - http://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/dependants-pass/eligibility

Very helpful comments above!

Finally received my in principal approval for LTVP after checking status online, did not receive any email, guess i have to wait for the hardcopy letter.

This is her 3rd year of renewal, previously holding both 1 year, isit compulsory to do a medical checkup? her visa expires on 26jan but appointment is all full till 15feb.

Any idea if i call up ICA they will be able to check if her pass was approved for one year or 3 year? my application was delayed because i also went MP to wrote a appeal letter to request for 3 year visit pass
Hi Janet,

For the medical checkup report, it is valid for 2 years so every 2 years have to do once. They will let you know if she need to go for checkup.

I think no way to know whether it is 1 or 3 years, only on the day of appointment then you will know, I doubt the customer service will know the details but you can still try to call and ask.

Hi Sk! Just wondering if company able to apply loc while my renewal of ltvp still 3 weeks in process ( current status: receiving attention) My current ltvp will expire on 22 May 2016 which means I got 4 months left.
SK said…
Hi Anonymous,
For LTVP/LTVP+ holders, you can apply to renew up to 6 months before the LOC expires. Before applying, check that the LTVP/LTVP+ is valid for at least 3 months. If it is not, the pass holder needs to go to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to renew the LTVP/LTVP+.

more details available @ http://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/letter-of-consent/renew-cancel-or-replace

Hi Ronald,
the only benefits for having a LTVP is that your spouse would be able to stay for an extended period in SG, (i.e duration for LTVP). Other benefits like healthcare/housing etc are only available for LTVP+/PR.

Hi MYiNT,
you may wanna consider doing and extension for stay as your date for appointment for completion of formality is only one month away. (maximum stay after extension would be 89 days from date of entry into Singapore).

but if you have returned to your country, yes the requirement for re-entry into Singapore still applies as you have not obtained the LTVP. ie to say, if your origin nationality requires a visa for entry to sg, you needa apply and have a valid visa. application can be done online.

as for the part for returning ticket, I'm not too sure, probably doesnt needa to have.. just bring along the e-appointment letter plus the In-principal approval letter when you are entering SG. show to the immigration officer/ Airport tix office crew if requested.

SK

Hi,

I have two questions.

1) If I marry first in Singapore and then find a job that offer WP while waiting for LTVP to approve, do I need to get the approval from MOM to marry?

2) My PMLA is applied in 19th Jan. 15th Feb is the end of the 4th week. Until today it is the fifth week. Why is it that the application takes so long and how long more do I have to wait? Should I write in to the authority using ICA_Visit_Pass@gov.sg to ask them for the status of the application?

I called the hotline for PMLA and they say may take 4-6 weeks but the website only take 4 weeks. My friend say maybe they count 4 weeks as from 19th Jan to 19th Feb(making it a month) instead of the normal 4 weeks calculation(which is until 15th Feb only). Please help my situation.

My expiration of short term extension is until March 17 only. If I go out and fly back to my own country while waiting this will not affect my application ?
Hi Anonymous at Feb 24, 2016, 4:55:00 PM,

I think maybe SPR will have higher requirements? Just guessing though, if your spouse is SC I think his salary is more than enough. I think maybe you can write in to ask for reason why they reject.

Hi Hazel,

No it won't affect your application since it is already approved.

SK said…
Hi Terrariva,
there isn't any restriction to how long a LTVP/LTVP+ holder can return and stay in his/her own country.
However do note,
1. The intend for LTVP/LTVP+ is to allow a foreign spouse a valid pass to stay in SG.
2. By returning and staying away from SG will likely to affect the subsequent application for renewal of the LTVP/LTVP+.

To our surprise, LTVP was granted for 2 years. I guess improvements on both our situations must have helped. Just a little after 1 year, we went from being rejected and submitting appeal to getting granted for 2 yrs of LTVP.

Below is our background for ur info.
Applicant - 28, female, Myanmar
Spouse - 28, male, SPR, Myanmar
Married since - Aug 2009
No Child
Occupations - Data Manager (husband) , Ops and Admin Manager (wife)
Income - SGD 5000 before cpf (husband), SGD 3750 (wife)

Sorry to say the only thing you can do is wait, what I know is for those who did not go through Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment, the waiting time can be much longer, up to 6 months.

Hi Shwe Sue,

Thanks for sharing, I'm sure it will be a good reference for others who are also on the same path.
SK said…
Congrats Shwe Sue. Thanks for sharing.

Anonymous: As MTGS has pointed, if you haven't done the pre-marriage LTVP assessment prior to your marriage and applied for LTVP, the waiting lead-time will be longer than those who followed the new guideline and has completed the Pre-Marriage LTVP assessment. For now, I guess you can only continue to wait for the reply from ICA. Alternatively, you may also want to try calling up the ICA hotline and do an enquiry on the status to get more assurance.

Hope that helps.

How about your wife's cert in India? Can try to submit and see if SNB accept, otherwise can consider enrolling for nursing course at polytechnic, or ITE also have, but diploma better prospects, usually can be staff nurse, ITE usually enrolled nurse. Hi Anonymous,
Congrats! Yes You've met the LTVP+ criteria for Non-SC spouse with children, however, you don't have to/can't deliberately apply for LTVP+, It's awarded base on ICA assessment on the fulfillment of the pre-requisites stated by ICA.

If your spouse LTVP is expiring soon, you can apply for renewal. If not probably you should just wait a little while more, in my opinion, it'll quite taxing having to prepare all the documentations and travelling to ICA during your wife's confinement period or when your newborn baby is only 1mth+ old.

Yes, probably it's too late to apply now to be in time to your spouse delivery.
ICA do assessment the ability of the sponsor to support the applicants livelihood, so being out of job will affect the application.

Maybe you can consider submitting a PR application since the LTVP is still valid till next year.

Hi there.is it compulsory to attend marriage courses(marriage prep programme/marriage support programme? What if i didnt attend the courses mentioned above?will it affect my spouse ltvp status and am i unable to get marry?
Hi,

From the following info I found, seems like if you don't complete the courses that they "recommended", they would withdraw your LTVP application! Better quickly go finish it.

https://app.msf.gov.sg/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=ze3tmJHoEZE%3D&portalid=0

Refer to page 2 point 6:

6. What if I cannot complete the MSF programmes before the In-Principle Approval (IPA) for my LTVP expires?
...
...
Should you be unable to complete the MSF programmes in time, your LTVP
application would be withdrawn and you would have to put in a fresh LTVP
application.

Hi I wanna ask my wife already got her ltvp and she got pregnant. Would like to ask if she going back to china n give birth due to cost, will this matter affect her ltvp or apply for ltvp+? Cause our first baby already got her dual citizenship. We wish to do the same for our 2nd baby.
Hi Tan,

It shouldn't affect her LTVP application, I think next time when you renew for her she should get LTVP+.

Hi,

I have a fairly complicated situation on hand. I am SC, 18 this year. My bf is Thai, 20 this year. We intend to register our marriage next year. I only completed my PSLE, and have a monthly pay of 2500sgd before cpf deduction. He have completed his basic education, and one year of technical college. What are our chances of getting an LTVP for him? We hope to be together in SG since I can't get a job in Thailand, and his pay cannot cover living expenses. Hope to hear from you guys soon!

Hi,

I am a SC and my GF is from Thai, currently she is pregnant and in Thailand. Can I get her to give birth in Singapore instead?

Thanks!
To Sep 26, 2016, 4:42:00 PM,

Usually it is more difficult for female sponsor to get LTVP for male foreign spouse, but nevertheless, just try first.

To Oct 1, 2016, 3:23:00 AM,

Yes you can bring her here to deliver but note that she will be charged private rates if she don't have PR, and since she don't have CPF and she cannot use yours, she will have to pay in cash. But you can find out from the hospital on the estimated cost, they can give you a breakdown.

Hi,

You can try applying for the Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment and see how it goes.

hello!!

i just wondering will my PR application get affected if I change a job now. I've waited for 5th month now. I'm Malaysian married to singaporean..
I think you need to consider whether you are applying by your own merit or your spouse is sponsoring your application.

If by your own merit, change of job doesn't sound so bad, as long as you are still on EP or S Pass. But I'm not sure whether you need to inform ICA after you submit your application, better call and ask.

If your spouse is sponsoring, by my experience it doesn't matter whether you work or not as long as your spouse can show that he/she has a stable employment. FYI my wife is not working.

Anyway my wife's PR took about 9 months.
Oh and best of luck! Usually when I wish people best of luck they end up getting their LTVP or PR ;)

Hi Host,
Im currently a ltvp holder sponsor by my husband who's malaysian but spore PR. We had married about 6 months. There's few things i would like to seek for advice:

(1). Im thinking to apply pr, therefore i would like to secure a job in sg. Which mean my employer need to apply Letter of consent for me. Will this letter of consent affect my pr application getting approval?

(2). As a ltvp holder, is there any affect to pr application outcome if im travelling often leaving spore?

(3). If both of us are pr, is there any chance upcoming baby to be given a sporean citizenship?

Thanks in advance
Summer Koh
Hi,

Since your husband is a PR, he can sponsor your application. If you can get a job it will be a plus.

That will depend on how often, if once or twice a year shouldn't be an issue.

If either one of you can obtain Singapore citizenship before your baby's birthday, then your baby can be a Singaporean by birth.

Hi Host,

Thanks for replying.

So the LOC wont have negative affect on PR aplication? Bcause previously i heard somebody said the ltvp holder who was sponsored by their husband after applying LOC, their pr application got lower chance to get approve. I wonder is this true? Currently so confused & scare the loc might affect pr application

Thanks in advance
Summer koh
I can't think of any reason why LOC will have a negative impact on your PR application, and they are two entirely different things. However note that I am speaking as a Singaporean with a foreigner spouse.

For PR/PR couples, maybe you want to ask that person why having LOC will have negative impact on PR application?

If you ask me, I still don't think it matters, LOC is for LTVP holder to work in SG. PR is for foreigner to stay in SG for longer period i.e. 5 years, so they are two different things, I don't really see the conflict.

is there any limit cap on how many time ltvp can be renewed?
SK said…
Hi Anonymous,
I don't think there's a limit t the number of times LTVP can be renewed.

As long as you have a valid LTVP, you may apply for renewal (subjected to approval and providing the necessary documents for verification upon IPA).

LTVP typically required renewal annually and LTVP+ depends on the granted period (varies between 2-5 yrs).

Alternatively, a ltvp/ltvp+ holder may also apply for Singapore PR (subjected to ICA approval and providing the necessary documents for verification upon IPA).

SK

Hello there!

My hubby and I ROM last December, with LLE. We received his IPA 27 Jan, and paid 28 Jan.

Our appointment was 14 March. However, we missed out the Marrriage support program certificate for transnational marriage couples. We were told to return walk in when we got it, and to be within 2 months from IPA.

Anyone had the same issues?
And, can I walk into ICA at anytime or is there a specific time?
Hi,

You can walk in during their office hours, weekdays 8am to 5pm, Sat 8am to 1pm. Just follow their instructions as given to you, all will be fine.

I have applied for LTVP for my husband from usa. They rejected it with no reasons given. I went to my MP to appeal, and they rejected that too. I'm not giving up. I really want us to live here for some years and raise my kids here. His stay ends here on April soon. Will they be able to extend the short term visitor pass for some months till he gets a job? He was given a 90days stay upon arrival. It will take some time to find a job in singapore. Appreciate any advise on this. Thank you.
I think when the sponsor is the female, it will be difficult, I have some female visitors who also complain of the same thing, they have job, their salary is fine, but somehow ICA just rejects their LTVP application. I'm not sure why though.

But since the LTVP route doesn't work out, your best bet is for him to land a job here.

There is a limit for extension per entry, I think it's 3 months, after that no more extension and he will have to leave and come back later.

Hi ALL!

Just wanna share with all - I was the one who posted on 17 March.
Today, my hubby got his LTVP! It's his first application and it's with 2 years validity.

Good luck to everyone (who're waiting or who're gonna apply!)
Congratulations! All the best!

Hi all.. thanks for all the info here. Just to share a little n also to enquire.. im a malaysian chinese ex wp holder married to an sc with mom's approval on the 2nd of dec 2016. On 6th Dec 2016 My husband applied for ltvp and also booked a appointment for pr application on 15th May 2017. I finally got my ltvp ipa yesterday after 4 months of waiting as we did not go through PMLA. There's a few things I'd like to ask here.
- as I'm now 33 weeks pregnant do I still need a medical report or just a letter from the gynae stating my edd?
- will I be able to get ltvp+?
- my svp is expiring soon and i need to heat to ica to renew it anyway. Is it possible to try for a walk in appointment to complete the formalities on the same day as the doctor advice against moving around too much during this last stage of pregnancy?
- will my chances of getting pr be affected since I'm heavily pregnant and unemployed during the time of application?
Ty all in advance for willing to shed some light on this.
Hi,

The medical report is to check for TB and HIV, so I think it is still required.

On the day you collect the LTVP you will know whether it is LTVP or LTVP+.

I think you can try your luck with the walk-in, by the way you can also extend your SVP online. During my time the completion of formalities is by appointment only, not sure about now.

I guess your PR application is sponsored by your husband, so your unemployment should not matter, my wife was unemployed when I applied for her. Your pregnancy should not matter.

Best of luck and take care!

Hi,

May I check with you all, me and my husband get married since July of last year and do not have baby now, Currently I'm holding a long term visit pass and the pass is going to expiry on Sep, am I able to renewal it by this month (4 months before the card expired),and my husband is going to resign by end of this month and he going to study degree which means will not working for half a year, so if I submit it by this month, should I put him as working or without working, just I scared that we cannot give the document which ICA wanted later on. but if I submit online once my husband resigned, am I easy to get for the approval(I'm still working now)?
Hi Angela,

I think time is too short, renewal takes 6 weeks, my experience earliest was 4 weeks to approve if I remember correctly. Earliest I renewed for my wife I think was 2 months before her card expired.

I advise to always be factual when you submit anything to government agency, you don't want them to haunt you later. So if he is working at the time when you submit the application, then put him as working, if he is not, then put as not working.

What you can do is tell ICA the same thing, that he plans to take time off work to further his studies. If you are working then it is a good point, and you might also want to show them that both of you are financially stable even if he is not working, bring your bank statements with you just in case. I'm guessing they will ask both of you for interview.

Best of luck!

Thanks marrythaigirlsingapore for keeping this blog updated and continuing to reply to people's comments.

I just wanna share about my situation. I'm a Vietnamese (local uni degree) and my SC fiance (poly dip) applied for Pre-marriage LTVP assessment more than 3 weeks ago and the case is still pending. From what I read online, most people got the LLE within 2 weeks.

I am guessing the delay is due to my fiance's low salary ($2.5k-2.8k). He just started working more than a year ago. Before that he was self-employed and didn't contribute to his CPF.

I spent last night to read all comments on this thread. Most people experienced a long wait for their LTVP but has anyone experienced waiting for so long for the PMLA and got un/successful result? I'm feeling so worried because there'll be no appeal option for PMLA and if we apply for LTVP without an LLE the processing time will be up to 6 months (for a one-year or possibly 6-month card) and high chances are it will be rejected!! T_T

hi all,
i heard that if ica asks for the original documents to be submitted means theres a high chance that they will approve the ltvp? since now its all applied online and they had the chance to already screened through the applications?
does anyone knows of rejected cases where they were not even called up for submission of documents? i just wana have a better gauge that if you dont get called for original docs, means 99% failed. thanks!
Hi ng,

I think your fiance's salary is fine, when I married my wife I was earning $2.2k, that was in 2010, I guess it shouldn't be too much of a difference.

You have a local uni degree, seems like a plus to me, I think probably ICA is very busy, give them some time.

Hi Anonymous,

Try not to read too much into hearsay, whatever ICA requires, just follow through promptly, you will only know the result when they tell you, no point speculating and give yourself something to worry about.

Best of luck all!

Thank you for your reply, marrythaigirlsingapore.

I want to update that I got LLE today 19 Apr. I applied on 18 Mar. So I think it's still considered 4 weeks (1 full month) to ICA.

Do you know whether the LLE letter will be mailed to only 1 person or both applicants?

Thank you!
