Primary 1 (P1) Registration for Baby
Glad that the P1 registration is fully online, now that we are in the 4IR era, manual processes should be digitalised and automated as much as possible.
Looking at the MOE website, I thought the number of phases is too much and how students are segregated based on "fulfil at least one of the requirements for that phase" is kind of ridiculous. This part "registration phases apply to children who are Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents" also baffles me. I would think that Singaporean children should have utmost priority, but apparently that's not the case.
The following is extracted from the website:
Phase 1
You have an older child who is currently studying at your preferred school.
Phase 2A(1)
You are a former student of your preferred school, and have joined as a member of the alumni association not later than 30 June 2020.
You are a member of the Advisory or Management Committee of your preferred school.
Phase 2A(2)
You or another child of yours have previously studied in your preferred school.
You are a staff member of the school.
Your child is currently in the MOE Kindergarten under the purview of and located within your preferred school.
Phase 2B
You are a parent volunteer at the school, joined not later than 1 July 2020 and completing at least 40 hours of service by 30 June 2021.
You are a member endorsed by the church or clan directly connected to the school.
You are endorsed as an active community leader.
Phase 2C
If your child is eligible for P1 and has not yet registered in a primary school.
Phase 2C Supplementary
If your child is eligible for P1 and has not yet registered in a primary school after Phase 2C.
Phase 1 requirement makes sense to me even though I don't have two child.
Phase 2A(1) requirement is like wtf, am I really reading this? A Singaporean child whose parent is an alumni or is part of the advisory/management committee of the school have special privilege over a Singaporean child whose parent is neither? Wtf?
Phase 2A(2), children of staff member have special privilege? Wtf? MOE Kindergarten have special privilege? Wtf?
Phase 2B, this one even more wtf, if the parent volunteer at the school, the child can have special privilege, even church and clan also drag in, this is kind of like "pulling strings" or what?
Phase 2C, this should be phase 1 instead.
Phase 2C Supplementary, this should be phase 2 instead.
Wonder what MOE is trying to do here, what kind of message are they sending, I just find the first 4 phases completely ridiculous and discriminatory.
I would think that all Singaporean children should have equal access to education, no F should be given whether the parent is member or staff or church or clan or even the prime minister or president son or daughter.
If not enough place then ballot, like BTO, MOE should not enable parents to gain unfair advantage for their children over other children, this is not right and should stop right now.
