Diabetes Scare

On the week of 08 Dec 2025, a stye grew on my right eye and I didn't think anything of it.

In the following week, the stye broke and there was pus in my eye all the time, had to keep cleaning it, especially after waking up there was this huge chunk of yellowish or greenish hardened pus, good thing I have a lot of antibacterial wipes and I brought one pack to work.

Then I noticed that my vision in both eyes started to get blurry even with glasses, can't see near with glasses, but if take off glasses can see near but then cannot see far, then with glasses far looks blurry.

I also had trouble sleeping well for quite some time even prior to the stye because I kept waking up at night to pee and felt thirsty all the time, to make matters worse I don't drink plain water much, kept drinking sodas and sweet tea.

On 28 Dec 2025, I went to buy a combo pack glucose monitor "Contour Plus Elite Blood Glucose Meter (MMOL) + Test Strips 50s + Lancets 100s + Alcohol Swabs 200s", it was on offer S$68.90.

I also went to replace the lens of my spare glasses by adding blue light protection (main one don't have) at Owndays, S$98 + S$100 block blue light total S$198.

After that went home to check my blood sugar and got the shock of my life, 30.0 mmol/L, according to HealthHub, greater than 16 mmol/L is a sign of Hyperglycaemia.

While reading up on diabetes I realised that replacing the lens of my glasses was a waste of money, shouldn't have done that when my blood sugar was so ridiculously high, I can only hope that the blue light protection is worth it.

I also checked my weight, suddenly lost 8-9 KG, yet another sign of Hyperglycaemia.

Leading up to the 30.0 mmol/L reading, I ate whole cans of fruit (longan, lychee, pineapple) and drink all the syrup, drink sodas, sweet teas, red bull, 100+, canned coffee, ice-cream, whole bar of chocolates, snacks (chips, cheetos and many others), instant noodles, barely drink much water, now I realise that sweet things, the more one consumes, the more one craves, very dangerous.

I thought something must be done immediately, so I totally cut off all the sugary stuff and switched to healthier food and started to work out daily, been slacking too much at home since my new job.

Also enrolled for Healthier SG Screening and did the cardiovascular disease risk screening and consultation last week, it's free by the way for Singaporeans 40 and older, and the results came back today and the fasting glucose was 6.0 mmol/L which is normal, phew.

But my bad cholesterol a bit high 3.98 mmol/L, and urine microalbumin creatinine ratio 0.6 mg/mmol and kidney e-gfr 83 ml/min meaning my kidney function a bit lower than normal, eat and drink too much junk already.

Below is my blood sugar readings, seems to have improved as I eat healthier and exercise more, I noticed that blood sugar tend to spike in the mornings after waking up.

If you are 40, please go and check, get a blood glucose monitor at home, high blood sugar is no joke one, don't be like me wait for something to happen, lucky for me nothing super serious, I should have done that when I was 40.

Now even when my blood sugar coming down to normal, my vision still the same, with glasses near cannot see anymore, only can see far, if don't take glassess become the other way round, sigh, used to have no problem for near and far, hopefully can recover from this.

I also noticed that the ache in both my shoulders seems to be going away after eating healthy and working out, also the random itch on my hands and body seems to be getting much lesser.
