MetaMask Got a Massive Revamp

It's been a long time since I used MetaMask, it was back in 2022 and I remember it was quite unreliable even though it is one of the OG wallets, then I switched to Rabby which was fantastic and has been using it until now.

Then recently I tried the new Coinbase wallet, they call it "Base: Formerly Coinbase Wallet", it is cool because it is a smart contract wallet, something which I have been looking for since 2022 and it supports both email and passkey login.

Some thoughts about Base app:

  • The email login is a bit clunky to use, every time I sign a transaction, I need to key in an OTP from my email.
  • Passkey login is way easier on my iPhone, but on the desktop, I have to scan a QR to sign every transaction, takes a while to connect via Bluetooth.
  • If I change my passkey, I have to apply the change to whichever other network I go to, otherwise I won't be able to sign transaction in the new network, for example I am in Base network, I changed my passkey, then when I try to sign a transaction in Ethereum, it will fail, then there will be a prompt to apply the change to Ethereum, got to do this via mobile app, if I do it on the web, it will fail without any meaningful message.
  • Difficult to tell whether I paid gas for each of my transactions because the transactions are routed through a proxy/bundler, even in DeBank also can't tell.
  • I think it's still a solid wallet, they only launched it less than a year, definitely still a lot to look forward to.

Then I looked around and happened to chance upon MetaMask again, noticed the website looks very different and what the hell they have a whole new wallet with social login, I tried it out and instantly it became my first-choice wallet, damn smooth and easy to use, both the mobile app and browser extension works beautifully and the best part is any change on one is synced to the other, no actually the best part is I can just login to both mobile app and browser extension with my Gmail, no need to key seed phrase or scan QR code anymore.

Long-Term Visit Pass - Plus (LTVP-PLUS)
