Baby Admitted to Hospital

Tomorrow morning she will have her operation to close the hole in her heart, just now she kept crying, I think she is scared of the strange new environment, she cried even harder when they tried to put the blood plug for her, unfortunately they didn't manage to do so as her blood vessels were too small, they will try again later. Poor little baby... but what needs to be done has to be done. I booked C class ward for her, they say it's an 8-bedded ward, but end up the ward only have 6 beds so it's not as noisy as we expected, actually baby is the noisiest one in the whole ward as she kept crying lol. And quite surprisingly the ward has free WIFI, so good thing we brought along her iPad so she can watch cartoon, but kind of troublesome as there seems to be a timeout, so have to sign in again and again quite often, but still better than nothing. By the way lucky we brought along her pram, ended up being useful as we can push her around instead of a wheelchai

Baby Operation Next Month

Her operation date is getting closer, I'm actually a bit worried even though I trust the healthcare staff at NUH, I think no matter how good they are, I guess it's natural for me to worry, hope everything will go well. Just a bit scared, what if something goes wrong, what if we lose her, it's just very scary to even think about it, but looking at the positive side, NUH have done many of such operations so to them it's probably like a walk in the park. They have this statistics on heart surgeries from 2009 to 2014, seems to me like very impressive numbers, but strange that they don't have numbers for 2015 and 2016, hopefully those are as impressive as past years.

Baby Heart Operation this November

Today we went to see her surgeon, he explained to us why the operation is necessary, basically if we don't do it now, as she grows older her condition will damage other parts of her organs, such as her lung, by then it would be another kind of problem that we have to deal with, so best is just do it now and solve the problem at its root. We asked if there is alternative to open-heart surgery, he said for her case no because he needs to patch the hole, problem is there is a missing part, so he needs to use some of her tissue for patching. He mentioned that most likely in her lifetime she only needs to do it once, hopefully that is the case. So now we fixed the surgery date in Nov, they also emailed me the estimated cost for C and B2 wards: C Ward B2 Ward Seems like C or B2 I probably don't need to pay any cash, all can pay by Medisave, but I will just choose C, no point choosing higher and pay more.

Probably Going for Baby's Surgery

Seen baby's cardiologist today, she referred us to a surgeon who will do her heart surgery to close the hole. We will see the surgeon in about 2 week's time. Wife is not keen on the surgery but after some persuasion from the staff, she agreed to do it. I think it's good that the operation is done when she is still very young, when she gets older she probably won't even remember it, and by then the scar would have healed and can't see a thing. Anyway wife wants MIL to come, also good, if her mother is here at least she won't be so worried, but I trust our doctors more than those in Thailand, our surgical standard is very high, that's what I believe.

Baby's Skin is Getting Better

Last week I tried putting on the Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula for baby, now her skin is so much better, so smooth, not dry anymore, I also tried the cream myself, I had a dry spot at my tummy area, I put the cream almost daily and now the dry spot looks and feels so much better! Wife also try, she also think the cream is very good.

Received Final Government Matching for CDA

Just noticed that the final $1,500 matching from government in baby's CDA: Baby's Child Development Account I put in $6,000, government matched $6,000, total have $12,000, and also last year government topped up $500, the other $230.28 is interest from OCBC. This money I think very helpful if need to go nursery or kindergarten, if choose those less expensive ones, I don't think can use finish, but if choose those one month $1000+ type, one year finish. Now I'm thinking whether nursery is even necessary at all, I remember last time I go nursery, only eat, sleep, play, run around, never really learn anything useful. Kindergarten I remember sing songs, eat, sleep, run around, also kind of crap. Now maybe they improved I don't know. Too bad CDA cannot pay for those martial arts classes or music classes, I think it's better for baby to learn something more specialized, if go to nursery or kindergarten, they probably just teach abc, sing song, 123, play t

Cream for Baby's Dry Skin

Baby have dry skin sometimes, can get so dry that it looks a bit scaly, tried a few creams and doesn't work, some even made it worse, end up she will have a slight rash and the dryness will come back again. Finally I tried the cream (Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula) that I bought for wife after her pregnancy, after applying for two days, it works, now baby's skin seems to be more moist. This one not very expensive, I think one big bottle $10+.

Got Baby Bonus of $1500

Yesterday baby's birthday, so one day before they already credited the money into my bank account, so when I saw the money I immediately transferred to baby's CDA account, now baby's account have more than $11K, later when government match the amount then should have more than $12K. So far haven't use the money in her account, hope can keep it this way until she goes to higher level of education.

Bought iPad Mini 4 @ $548 for Baby

Just now went to Challenger and bought a gold iPad Mini 4 16GB for $548. The salesman said if I sign up for membership I only need to pay $30 more to get 2 freebies worth $68, sounds like a good deal so I signed up. The freebies are screen protector ($29) and casing ($39) for iPad Mini 4. I put on the screen protector myself, damn so delicate have to be very careful, took more than 30 mins to put on lol. After that found that the casing have one long horizontal scratch, don't know I scratch it or it was already there but never mind since the purpose of the casing is to protect the iPad, and since it is for baby I guess eventually will have lots of scratches so I tell myself don't bother la. And apple products always so easy to setup and use, no sweat at all, iOS really the best.

Baby Watching Cartoon on Wife's iPhone

Times flies, baby is now 10 months old, now she can crawl, can stand but still cannot walk, if put her on ground she will panic, I think she is aware that if she fall it won't be like falling on bed, it will be painful, she hit her head twice so I guess she knows. She started to be interested in baby songs from YouTube, those teaching how to count numbers or abc songs. So now she is contending with wife for iPhone so when baby watch wife cannot watch Thai movies, if wife watch Thai movies baby will make noise. So maybe later drop by to get an iPad, maybe get an iPad Mini.

Baby One Year Old Soon

Baby will be one year old this coming May, my father and said my mother wish to celebrate by inviting our relatives, I immediately said no, I think my mother wants to collect ang pao, I think this ang pao culture is super lame and stupid, if my mother collect ang pao on baby's behalf it will mean we owe all those who gave ang pao, next time have to give back, this is utterly stupid, so I told my father if they want to invite can, I will pay all expenses, those who come don't give any ang pao, but best is just celebrate within our family, no need to invite anyone else. My thinking is that if I can afford to invite and give people a treat, I will, if I cannot afford, don't invite, it's that simple, no need to invite and then expect to get back from ang pao. Lucky I now have my own house, no need to be at anyone's mercy, if I don't want nobody can force me hahaha.

Baby Seen Cardiologist and Paediatrician

Baby doing fine, doctor say growth is good so no need to see specialist anymore, just need to follow-up at polyclinic for vaccinations. As for her heart, the cardiologist say now no need to do anything, probably at 1.5 years old then consider operation to fix her ASD once and for all. Still don't know the cost and type of procedure, so I think need to set aside some cash just in case. Wife also need to replace her heart valve so most probably baby go for operation first, stabilize then wife go.

Baby can Flip and Stand a bit

Now she is more than 8 months old and she is able flip back and forth while lying down, she is also able to stand a bit unassisted, but still not able to crawl. I think next month maybe will see something new lol.

Baby Can Sit by Herself

Today she is finally able to sit by herself on the bed without assistance, but occasionally she will fall back but still it's a milestone achieved. Today she is 7 months and 4 days old. Hopefully she can start to talk and walk, but now she still can't flip over, I think because she is plump, but at least she can stand with assistance. Baby sitting by herself

Received Letter for Enhanced Baby Bonus

Letter says all babies born on or after 01 Jan 2015 will be eligible for $2000 more baby bonus, this extra cash is call "Baby Bonus Plus". $1000 will be paid when baby is 15 months old, the last $1000 will be when baby is 18 months old.

Collected Daughter's Passport

I booked an appointment at 11 AM to collect at ICA, need to bring the pink card which they mailed to me, my NRIC and baby's original birth certificate. We reached early and registered around 10.35 AM, we were called at around 11 AM, the whole process took less than 5 minutes and at 11.05 AM we were done, but there is a massive crowd, I think holiday season so a lot of people renewing their passports, lucky we have appointment or else if we walk-in I think have to wait a few hours, so moral of the story is always book appointment before collecting passport.

Baby Richer than Wife lol

I just checked baby's CDA inside have more than $9K, my wife only have $2K+ inside her bank lol. Baby CDA So far I topped up $4500 into the CDA, then government matched 1:1 put another $4500 inside. Then this year budget government put $500 inside, the rest all interest from bank. Not bad, at this rate can save a good sum for baby's education.
