This Month Utilities Bill only Pay $4.82

The bill a bit siao siao, sometimes $80+, sometimes $90+, this month only $69.82, and this month there is the gst rebate of $65 so end up the final bill is $4.82. I think only when they come and check then lower, if not they just estimate higher, basically anyhow whack, can eat more cannot eat less kind of estimation, really chee behs, actually I should start to submit the meter readings myself, but too lazy and forgetful to do so, come back from work so tired already just want to relax, weekend also can't be bothered, rather rest lol.

$3000-$4000 Cannot Afford Housing in Singapore?

Just now I was watching the channel 8 news at 7pm, there was this guy from worker's party speaking, he was speaking in Hokkien, he was saying people here are not able to afford housing with $3000-$4000 salary and yet government claim that with $1000, one can afford housing. And he added that how can he not know the sums as he is a banker with 10 over years of experience. I was wondering does this guy have any idea what he was saying, $3000-$4000 cannot afford housing? Then how did I buy my house? When I bought my house last year I was earning close to $4000, and I'm paying by myself, I didn't get a single cent from my parents, every single cent for the house I paid by myself, single income, as you all know my wife is not working. Maybe he was referring to condominium? But couldn't be right, if condominium is the benchmark for housing affordability then plenty of people cannot afford housing.

Sealed My Rubbish Chute

I have stayed in my flat for slightly more than a year, recently the cockroach attacks have become more frequent and more irritating. Earlier this week my right cheek and right butt got bitten by a cockroach, it crawled onto my bed when I was sleeping, probably bit my face and butt first before moving to my neck, so when I felt something ticklish, I woke up and slapped my neck hard, I then went to open the lights, the ugly creature dropped dead to the floor, it was probably hanging onto my shirt. Then the following days I noticed red itchy spots on my cheek, same goes for my butt, it was so damn itchy. Those spots on my cheeks are gone now, but those on my butt is still there and is still itchy. This is not the first time a cockroach invaded our sleeping area, my wife encountered once when she was sleeping, she felt something moving on her palm, she woke up and found a cockroach, I think that was before our baby arrived, so that should be quite a while back. And yesterday night was

HDB Automatically Added Daughter as Occupier

We have such great systems, seems like government agencies share our data around, even HDB knows that I have a daughter now, they added her as an occupier, I noticed when I login to the HDB page, was thinking of adding her now no need to add haha. Speaking of housing, been living here for almost a year now, I wonder if my estate will get enbloc, if can then great because now that I have a daughter, we will need a room for her, surely she can't be sleeping with us when she is bigger, I think until 4-5 years can, older then she should have her own room. Maybe wait MOP see how, if never enbloc then I might just try for sale of balance, BTO have to wait, pay a bit more never mind, I don't like to wait.

Utilities Bill $86.42

This is for period of 05 May to 03 Jun. My MIL and wife's cousin came on 01 May, baby came home on 26 May, wife was hospitalized from 05 May to 26 May though, but somehow the bill isn't as high as I think it would be lol, I was expecting $200-$300, no idea how come it's so low, the last bill was $77.77, by the way I checked there is no rebate, it's the full billing. Just on Friday I spoken to one of my co-workers, his bill is usually $200+, sometimes $300+, he have 6 children so total 8 people in his household, I guess more children will use more water and electricity, maybe children don't yet understand how precious these resources are.

Had a Really Good Sleep Yesterday Night

Yesterday my neighbours didn't turn on their plane engines (aircon), so peaceful, I slept all the way to 10am uninterrupted, this morning I felt really fresh. Old HDB flat design not good, sound travels easily because some of the walls are hollow, another problem is the aircon compressor is installed outside the master bedroom, which means if the neighbour on top or left/right to your room is noisy, that's it, you are screwed, but then nowadays we got used to it, most of the time we can still sleep, sometimes when it gets too loud then really jia lat but how, complain also complain already, unless they are willing to change their aircon, I think they should seriously consider changing because if I'm downstairs and it's so loud for me, I bet it's even worse for them, I wonder how they can sleep through that noise. New flat design is much better, they have aircon ledge located away from the bedrooms, but not all new design is like that, have to look at the floorplan

Got The U-Save Rebate Again

This time got $195 so this month no need to pay, next month also no need to pay, maybe the 3rd month also no need to pay. I noticed the utilities bill very different each time, sometime $50+, sometimes $90+, sometimes $80+, how come can go up so high then come down so low, I wonder if they charge correctly or not.

Town Council S&CC Rebates for 2014

No wonder this month my town council never charge me for the fees, I thought they forgot lol, how can it be right, so I Googled and found that I have 2 rebates for this year; July and October: http://app.mof.gov.sg/newsroom_details.aspx?type=press&cmpar_year=2014&news_sid=20140401321152570663 HDB Flat Type 2014 S&CC Rebates (no. of months) April 2014 July 2014 October 2014 Total for 2014 1-room 1 1 1 3 2-room 1 1 1 3 3-room 1 0.5 0.5 2 4-room 1 0.5 0.5 2 5-room 0.5 0.5 0.5

Received U-Save Rebate for Oct 2014

Last month I have a $97.61 credit from the Jul U-Save, this month government gave another $65 making it $162.61. My utilities bill for this month is $76.67, very surprising, much cheaper than last month of $97.39, I think it's because last month was estimated and this month was checked by SP staff. Now I still have $85.94 credit, if next month also $70+ then also no need to pay.

Ordered Gas Again for $32

I first ordered my gas on 07 Jul , until now is 85 days, almost 3 months, so it's about $0.376 per day, I find it okay as my wife use the gas almost daily to cook water and food, she's still complaining how come it's so expensive lol, but okay la, where got expensive. By the way today she cooked sambal chilli, damn nice, I ate two big plates of rice with it, I asked her to cook fish balls with the chilli tomorrow, must be very nice too, but really unexpected that she can cook such good sambal, damn shiok.

Received My U-Save Rebates

My last post . They just released my utilities bill online and they credited $195 ($65 for Jul, $130 special payment) into my account, my bill for Sep 2014 is $97.39 and it is exactly the same as last month (so zhun?), so that means I don't have to pay for this month, I still have a credit of $97.61, probably next month also don't have to pay if the charges are the same. I think maybe they didn't come and check the meters, I also didn't submit my readings, I read in my Aug bill it said that I can submit readings at their website but I forgot, anyway my Sep bill says on 02 Oct someone will come and take the readings. Ah, anyway this U-Save thingy sure helps with cashflow, I'm sure it has helped a lot of families, this is one thing the government should continue doing but I hope people will take it as a chance to improve their finances instead of thinking it's free money, take it as an opportunity to save that extra cash, or at least half of it.

My Utilities Bills So Far and U-Save

Image
My utilities bills so far. JUN, JUL and AUG First two months was low because we haven't move in yet, by the way first month they charged a $60 deposit so the actually bill was $7.18. So for this month it's $97.39, much lower than expected, every month I set a budget of $150 for utilities and service and conservancy charges (S&CC), my S&CC is $28.50 because mine is a 2-room flat, so 150-28.50=$121.50. I think my utilities bill can be lower because last month we had a leak in one of our toilet bowls, I fixed that about two weeks ago, so next month my bills should be slightly lower. I also checked with SP Services how come I didn't get any U-Save rebate, the lady on the line said I am eligible and it should have been credited in my July bill, she will check and get back to me.

Went to Talk to Neighbour Above

Before I went up, I spoke to the an elderly lady living two units away, I asked if she heard any noises yesterday night and she said she didn't, I guess her unit is too far away. She told me the unit above mine is a Malay unit, since this month is their fasting month, they probably get up early to prepare for prayers, but I told her that surely they don't need to be awake from 12am to 4am, she smiled and agreed with me, I also asked whether they have baby and she said yes, no wonder we heard little footsteps running about, she also told me to speak to them nicely. I went up with my wife, my wife was hiding beside, first thing I saw when I peeked in was a cute little baby watching television, there was no one else and the baby was knocking on the ground with an object, I can't see clearly as their unit was dark even when light was shining in, not sure why Malays like to have dark rooms, my previous owner is also a Malay, his unit was also very dark because he painted purpl

Finally Confirmed Renovation Flooring Price

My father informed me that his friend will collect $1600 for the flooring works, way below the amount that I expected, I set aside $2000 so now I can save $400. I also checked with my father whether his friend made a loss, he said his friend only collected about $200 for his own transportation and the logistic stuff, the rest are for materials and labour, so basically he didn't earn anything. I think his friend also find it difficult to set a price, they are friends for 30 over years, if it was me, I think I would probably also find it hard to take money from an old friend, I won't mind absorbing all the cost if I can afford it. But of course we can't let his friend pay for everything, people do something for me, I must pay them accordingly, if they don't want to make a profit out of goodwill for us, fine, at least take the money to cover the costs, no such thing as do everything for free. And now that I saved $400, I will give my father $100 as referral fee, and

Managed to Fix My Toilet Leak

Image
Yesterday my wife was complaining of a leak in our main toilet, I checked and it was dripping a little so I opened up the cistern and found that the water level was higher than the drainage. Unscrew The Flush Button Flush Button Exposed Remove the Cistern Cover Inside the Cistern The water will enter the cistern through the L-shaped piped, the red box is the water lock, when the water level reaches a certain level, it will push up the black ball, and it will lock that part so that water will stop entering, obviously it's meant to prevent the water from overflowing, and how strong the flush will be is also dependent on how you set this lock, you can release to raise water level so that flush will be stronger, or tighten to reduce water level but flush will be weaker. The Water Entry Pipe This is the big black ball that floats on the water, the red box is the water drainage to drain off excess water. Black Ball and Drainage Our dripping problem

Yesterday I Lodged a Report with HDB Regarding Neighbour Above

I was very hesitant, not sure if I should look for the owner directly or what, let me share our experience first and you'll see why I decided to get HDB to deal with it. We moved into the house almost one month ago, wow, new house, so happy, but little did we know that the neighbour directly above has a plane engine for aircon, it's very old and rusty at the bottom, and the piping are exposed and dripping water all the time, it drips to our compressor, and I'm not sure what damage that might cause, but well, I'm also not sure what damage rain might cause, anyway that's not a big deal, the big deal is their compressor, I think it vibrates too much, so much that it shakes our ceiling, we can hear it in our bedroom, living room, kitchen, and toilets, it resonates throughout our flat and it's even worse in the middle of the night, and when I say it shakes our ceiling, yes it literally shakes our ceiling, we even removed the lighting cover in our bedroom or else it

Bought Our Sofa and My Office Chair at IKEA

Image
Today my father came to finish up the kitchen cabinet, now it's fully completed, I think it looks really nice, all for $600, special price for me. And see the top used to be showing the pipes, now it's all covered up. Kitchen Cabinet He also built a small green cabinet to cover the rubbish chute, it is on the right door, left door can keep stuff and that cabinet spot used to be the kitchen sink, the washing machine spot used to be the ancient-looking stove, now it's all gone, see how much difference it made after we removed it. By the way this green cabinet is free, no need to pay money because my father used leftover materials to build it. Custom-Built Cabinet for Rubbish Chute After the cabinets were done, we went straight to IKEA and bought our sofa and my swivel chair. For sofa, we made our decision rather quickly because my wife was not sure which one to get, all seems nice to her, so I called the shot and bought a 3-seater black-coloured leather sofa for

Don't Think I Will Visit Courts Again

Today me and wife went around looking for sofa, office chair and microwave oven, we visited IKEA but didn't settle on anything because we thought we should check out other places first, we ended up buying tidbits and stuff at their bistro section , they have all sorts of products which me and wife have never seen before. I grabbed a bottle of their citron and elderberry liquor, 3 packs of potato chips which I can't wait to try, a bottle of ketchup, yeah, the same one that they let you put on their hotdogs, I haven't try the hotdog though, my wife grabbed some strange tasting candy called Godis Lakrits, I really don't like the taste, and finally some fried onions, haha I love fried onions. After that we went to Courts at their Clementi branch. We started at the home appliances section, a salesgirl approached us and I told her we will take a look first, somehow she kept on following us, everywhere we go she follow, wow, I just want to take my time to literally take a lo

Scrub Toilet Walls!

I just cleaned the walls of my small toilet, looks so much cleaner now but problem is the black stains on the floor is so difficult to remove, I think need to use cif cleaner, but I save it for next week, whole body ache like crazy, damn siong, like just run finish 2.4km. Speaking of 2.4km, there is a track field at my neighbourhood, yesterday I ran 6 rounds which is 2.4km, the air there is fresh, I think it's a good place to run, next week I might try to run 7 rounds.

Bought Kettle and Tiger Brand Thermal Air Pot

I have been searching for a good flask to hold hot water, the cheap brands either don't work well or not durable and they are not that cheap, one for almost $20, there are smaller ones for $13 but it's too small, I need something at least 2 liters and finally today I found a good one at OG Chinatown. I bought a Tiger brand thermal air pot which can hold 2.5 litres for $58 and a 5 litres non-electric kettle for $47.90. And OG has all sorts of stuff, if you need to get anything, just go there, they have everything, pans, fryer, spoons, fork, clothing, pillows, mattress, bedsheets and etc.
