Cold Calls from Recruitment Firms

Recently received quite a number of calls from recruitment companies, I already set my jobstreet profile to private so I don't think they got my details from there. So I asked one of them how they managed to get my profile, the guy told me they have it in their system from last year, told him currently not looking for job, he then asked me if I have any friend to recommend can call him. Sounds like they are getting desperate, digging through old profiles and making cold calls, machiam telemarketing. Anyway I have been working in current company for slightly over 2 years now, the project that I am working on has recently launched, no doubt very buggy but at least didn't have to rollback which we almost did due to some missing migrated data, luckily managed to discover and fix it and go ahead to rollout. Still many outstanding problems though but I suppose it's only natural, new system sure have teething issues, maybe another 6 months to 1 year it should stabilise. I saw this...

Update on Kitchen

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2020/11/bought-new-kitchen-and-kitchen-table.html Very satisfied with this new kitchen, this open concept is kind of cool, can see everything, if dirty can tell easily and clean up easily, should have got this from the beginning, I think when we move to new flat, definitely going to get this same kitchen or something similar. That's what I call cheap and good. I still like movable, no-need-to-dismantle furniture, for example wardrobe, don't like the built-in type, same rationale, if spoil or what need to dismantle, movable type just throw the whole thing away, way easier.

Bought New Kitchen and Kitchen Table (sort of)

Image
So yesterday had a body-aching-day, today not any better. Went to IKEA and bought SUNNERSTA kitchen (S$223) and FLYTTA kitchen trolley (S$249) which is actually our kitchen table. The SUNNERSTA has two versions, one is rack + sink, the other is rack + sink + water tap + pipe, I bought the latter. The assembly of the FLYTTA (S$249) was alright, only tool that they didn't provide is a large cross screw driver, other than that everything else was quite straightforward. Love this trolley-table, I think everybody should just get trolley-tables, so convenient. The assembly of the SUNNERSTA is seriously wtf, other than a large cross screw driver, also need a pipe cutter, wife went to buy a small hand saw just for this, S$7+. Don't understand why they didn't just pre-cut it, and they didn't say anything about how much to cut, only a picture to give a super rough idea. And the part (2 piece push together) that attach from the back of the sink to the bottom of the sink, geez spe...

Dismantled Lower Cabinet, Replaced Burst Water Pipe

Today my wife keep nagging me about the kitchen sink (been nagging for a long time, geez), it has been leaking since forever, waiting for my father to fix but I think he is busy so don't want to keep chasing him, I know right, I don't like it when people keep chasing me. So I thought it's time I took things into my own hands. I personally dismantled the lower cabinet, wasn't as bad as I thought because the cabinet was wet throughout so it was easy to break apart, it's all just hard labour, damn tiring, breaking it down, carry it downstairs to throw, clean up, phew. The result is an empty space, the wall looks super disgusting so I won't post any picture, have already washed but can't get rid of the stains, so we will probably just paint over it. We are thinking maybe can get a SUNNERSTA from IKEA, and a small table, so tomorrow will drop by IKEA to take a look. Then when I thought one thing settled, the shower water pipe burst, like wtf man. I went online an...

Damn Super Busy Recently

Now getting more and more busy, most weekends also have to go back to office, damn tired, so fast getting to the end of the year, phew, time flies. Hopefully this month can launch the project, so maybe will slow down the pace a bit, hopefully, but realistically I don't think it will slow down much because new system usually start with many problems, we can only try to minimise the risk, can't be perfect or wait for stars to align, there's a saying, keep the ball rolling. I think I will be stuck in this current project for at least a few more months, but doesn't matter to me as long as the pay is good, it is pretty good, hopefully next year bonus will be good too. Anyway good luck to all and stay safe!

Bought JBL TUNE 700BT S$119

Previously bought the JBL Tune 500BT and it was really good for the price and I love it, now still using it. The reason why I decided to buy one more headphone is more for office use, because HR required us to put on earphones when conferencing. So the 500BT I will bring to office, then at home I will use the 700BT haha. Anyway I think major difference between the 500BT and 700BT is the battery life, 500BT can last up to 16 hours whereas the 700BT can last up to 27 hours. Another difference is the ear pads, 700BT have a much more comfortable ear pads as it almost covers the ears; the pads are bigger. Lastly the 700BT have an audio jack and comes with an audio cable which I probably won't use but good to have just in case. If you don't own either one and thinking of getting one, I recommend the 700BT, if on budget, the 500BT is really good too.

Been Really Busy Recently

These few weeks very busy with project activities, it's going live soon so a lot of work to do, a lot of loose ends to tie up before we can meet the payment milestone, almost every weekend also have to work, damn tiring. I think doing project doesn't have to be so tiring, if everybody do their part, follow the plan and deliver on time, a project can be a great learning experience instead of a terrible experience. Talking about the plan, the person coming up with the plan is even more crucial, because this person can make or break a project. Talking about project managers, in my entire IT career I have worked with many project managers, there are those sibeh zai one, and there are those who simply cannot make it, so I am pretty good at telling if a project manager is good or not and I can tell you my current project manager is the totally cannot make it type, that's why this project so siong, end up the director have to step in to drive the project so you can imagine how bad...

Just Received Brochure for CareShield Life

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/compulsory-careshield-life-to-start-oct-1-for-residents-born-in-1980-or-later https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/careshield-life-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-scheme Was a bit surprised, how come suddenly have a new mandatory insurance, almost thought it was a scam, so googled a bit and found that it was already announced in 2019, maybe I missed it, or maybe I read about it but totally forgotten. Anyway I think it's a good scheme which works hand in hand with the existing MediShield Life. Also seems like it is a replacement upgrade for the existing ElderShield, meaning people like my parents who are on ElderShield may opt to switch to CareShield next year, note that the premiums get upgraded as well, meaning better benefits but higher premium, also note that CareShield will have some subsidy from government whereas ElderShield don't have. Looks good to me, don't have to do anything, just pay money, those who can...

Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) Passed Away at 43 Years Old

Didn't know he was suffering from cancer, in the movies he looked great, he is the black panther after all, can't imagine anyone else playing the character. Actually I didn't even know about him until I saw him in the Black Panther (2018) movie. Then I just googled what other movies he starred in, then I realise he is actually the The God of Wisdom in the movie Gods of Egypt (2016), no wonder I thought he looked familiar. Just thinking, average lifespan of a human being is about 80 years, so he left 37 years earlier, I think that's a lot of years to be able to enjoy, but then again, everyone has to go one day, just a matter of when and how. I hope he left without too much suffering. RIP.

Went to VivoCity...

And the crowd is back to pre-covid level, damn packed, what happened to the social distancing haha. But I wouldn't be too concerned as long as everybody do their part and put on a mask, which appears to be the case. Everybody also appears to be keeping good personal hygiene such as sanitising wherever possible i.e. there are sanitisers readily available for public which I believe is very helpful. Apart from mask and sanitisers, people are also keeping within the yellow lines in queues, I think it is a good effort from everyone, I believe we can get out of the situation soon as long as everyone continues doing their part. I also realise one good thing about mask, when sneezing or coughing, since people are already masked, whatever virus is contained within the mask, I believe regardless of covid or normal flu, it will help to limit the spread of any virus, so I'm thinking maybe in future when this is over, people should continue wearing mask in public, just in case there is anot...
