Suddenly So Much Activity Going On

Yesterday heard my friends saying our prime minister will announce something at 4PM regarding the virus, after that all sorts of speculation started flying around. I wasn't taking much notice because I still have to go to data centre to check some issue, stuck down there until 9PM+. Anyway today went online to see what happened yesterday, wow so much new information, don't know where to start. So I went to gov.sg instead, thought I might get something useful there, indeed found this link that pretty much summarised everything:  https://www.gov.sg/article/covid-19-updates-and-announcements I outlined the following for convenience: Kindergarten closure from 8 April 2020 until 4 May 2020: https://www.ecda.gov.sg/PressReleases/Pages/Advisory-to-Parents-Keeping-Our-Children-Safe-Against-COVID-19-Preschools-to-suspend-general-services.aspx No IPPT, no ICT, until 4 May 2020: https://www.mindef.gov.sg/web/portal/mindef/news-and-events/latest-releases/article-detail/2020/April

Changed My Starhub XS Plan to $25 Sim Only

The contract for my line ended on 31 Mar 2020, I took leave to go Starhub shop to change the line, to my surprise the service staff told me on the last day if want to change, there will be a S$25 termination charge. Alamak, good thing is I have too much leave, so go walk walk with family also not bad, take a break from the never-ending work. Previously my wife's line I also did on the last day of her contract, but maybe Starhub changed their policy, well they did have a clause saying they reserve the right to change their policy at any time. So you guys take note to do whatever you need to do AFTER your contract end, no more last day. I even called Starhub 1633 just to double confirm, the phone support confirmed I can only do after my contract end, otherwise there will be a charge, he also told me I can actually change to no sim plan online. So today I went to Starhub website, did the change, quite straightforward, so easy, like this actually don't even need to go to th

People Buying Full Trolley

Just came back from Sheng Siong, quite surprised to see queues, usually weekdays afternoon not so many people, but today see so many people, some even rushing, wonder what they are rushing for. Then saw quite a number of people buying full trolleys of goods, kitchen towels, toilet paper, canned food, packed fish, got one auntie even bought like 8 packed fish, looks like she is going to have a party tonight. Yesterday even more funny, my army friend posted a message on whatsapp saying his friend's boss do digital marketing for NTUC Fairprice, the friend's boss say government will lock-down SG next week, then tell everyone to go buy necessities. I have no idea how the above even gel together. Anyway better to stick to substantive information, the MOH link below is probably a better choice than information coming from "xyz's friend's boss", well unless the boss is the health minister or prime minister then different story. https://www.moh.gov.sg/covid-1

Hoarding Hand Sanitisers

https://www.todayonline.com/world/he-has-17700-bottles-hand-sanitiser-and-nowhere-sell-them https://www.todayonline.com/world/man-17700-bottles-hand-sanitizer-just-donated-them There was a period when my wife can't find any hand sanitiser, I wonder if people in SG also did the same thing, bought out the stores and then try to resell it for profit, but now my wife say the stores restocked already, most shops selling but those cheaper brands sometimes sold out, but those more expensive brand still have stock. Kind of disappointing that people would actually try to profit off this kind of thing in this time of need, I think SG still not so bad because we don't run the risk of running out of stock of anything or at least not that I can see so far, yeah there was one or two days where toilet paper and such were really cleaned of the shelves but it was quickly restocked the very next day. Then again I really don't think hand sanitisers are really that big of a deal in stop

Strange Virus

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/covid19-coronavirus-mar-7-cases-12512420 I read the article and feel puzzled, not just this, I read a few earlier ones about how people in SG got infected, I also puzzled. See of the 8 new cases, 6 didn't travel, 2 are imported, then of the 6, 1 mostly stayed at home also can get the virus, or maybe she walked past somebody with the virus who sneezed, or touched something, that means more people have but never report? I wonder how many actually report, how about those who kena, recovered, they probably don't even know their symptoms is actually from coronavirus, thought it's just the common flu because both symptoms are the same. Best is still avoid crowded places, seems like it's the best place for the virus or any virus to spread, keep hands clean where possible, drink more water etc.

JBL Tune 500BT Arrived!

Ordered the headphone last week through Amazon and got it today, finally can get rid of my wired headphone. My new headphone is really nice, I put it on and my surrounding noise sound less impactful, I think maybe this is what they mean by noise cancelling. The audio is also good, volume can go very high, at 34 I think it's quite loud already. But one thing I notice is when playing there is a tiny bit of lag, not that super noticeable but maybe I'm a bit more sensitive. The keys on the headphone is also very handy, one to increase volume, on to decrease and one to stop or play, it actually works with youtube so I can pause videos from a distance lol. Very good buy for S$70 I say, also next time just take the Amazon SGD price, pay by USD seems to end up a bit more.

I Wonder How Retail Shops Survive

Last weekend suddenly thought of getting a wireless headphone so that I don't disturb wife and baby, these days they sleep early because baby have to wake up early for school. So went into Challenger to casual browse, saw this JBL Tune 500BT headphone, looks very nice and surprisingly not few hundred dollars, usually branded wireless headphone S$300-S$400 or more also have, review also seems pretty good, selling for S$89.90 for non-member price, I don't have their membership by the way. Almost wanted to buy but when I did a quick check on Amazon, it was 39.95 USD, around S$67.XX after delivery charge, wow around S$20 difference. In the end never buy from Challenger, thought of going home then order online. So today bought at Amazon, including expedited delivery is S$69.49, think next week will receive. I also went to Lazada, some even selling for S$55.00 but ships from overseas, most probably is used, some is S$69, I guess those is they resell from Amazon, then some is S$

Dorscon Orange

https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/risk-assessment-raised-to-dorscon-orange Yesterday company suddenly called for meeting, I busy so halfway run road already, end up it is to split our team into groups, like a buddy system, one work from home, one work at office, I think the objective is if office get hit with the virus, those at home still safe and can continue work. Heard from co-worker people buying out things at supermarket to stock up, don't know real or not, seriously really need meh haha, anyway I think it's safer for family to just stay in and not go out during this period, but work and school cannot avoid la.

Tried NETS Click on Comfort Taxi App

Finally Comfort provide this convenient payment service, just need to setup on the app which is pretty straightforward to do, and then set it as the default payment type. So how it works is you book the taxi as per normal on the app, since NETS Click is the default payment so don't need to do anything else. After the trip, just stylishly alight like how you alight from any grab taxi and the service will auto-deduct directly from your bank account. Note that even though the setup is to the card which may be a credit card (mine is a credit card), it actually is a direct debit service. Oh by the way, happy lunar new year!

Super Busy Recently

Now rushing to finish a project, everything feels compressed, so not much time or energy to post, plus baby start school this year so feels like so many stuff going on. Anyway this year bonus is alright, 1.5 months, pretty standard I guess, increment is unexpectedly good though, 8.48%, way better than last job. Out of nowhere also have a retention bonus which according to my boss is only given to a handful of people, which means if I stay on, mid of this year will get this special bonus, next year will also get it. To be honest I was thinking of leaving after getting bonus but the package seems pretty good to miss so I think I am staying for a while more, I'm glad that that this company knows how to recognise and reward people who put in effort unlike my previous company where the reward didn't justify my responsibilities. So there is a lesson here, if you want people to work hard for you, please be sure to treat them well, even in times of crisis, these people will go al
