Sheng Siong Up to 16 Months Bonus

https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/sheng-siong-reward-staff-16-months-bonus-after-tremendous-performance-2020 "The bonuses for Sheng Siong employees range from 4.68 months to 15.72 months, depending on the workers’ grade" Wah seh, I think even if get the lowest of 4.68 is still way above market rate, most companies probably slashed bonus to 1-2 months or worse, no bonus, or even worse, no job! I think Sheng Siong is really generous, they actually share their earnings with staff, now this is what I call a good employer, I have only pure respect for their management.

Went to VivoCity...

And the crowd is back to pre-covid level, damn packed, what happened to the social distancing haha. But I wouldn't be too concerned as long as everybody do their part and put on a mask, which appears to be the case. Everybody also appears to be keeping good personal hygiene such as sanitising wherever possible i.e. there are sanitisers readily available for public which I believe is very helpful. Apart from mask and sanitisers, people are also keeping within the yellow lines in queues, I think it is a good effort from everyone, I believe we can get out of the situation soon as long as everyone continues doing their part. I also realise one good thing about mask, when sneezing or coughing, since people are already masked, whatever virus is contained within the mask, I believe regardless of covid or normal flu, it will help to limit the spread of any virus, so I'm thinking maybe in future when this is over, people should continue wearing mask in public, just in case there is anot

Back to Some Normal

Today went to have Korean BBQ, went shopping and see-see-buy-buy. I think we are on the way back to normal activities, just that now need to do the scan before entering any restaurant or shop. BBQ was less enjoyable, it used to be a buffet style BBQ, used to be able to just go get a plate and then get whatever I want, but now they changed it such that there is a staff to help you get what you want, you are not allowed to get close to the food for hygiene reason I suppose, so the experience of a buffet is not there anymore. Anyway still glad to be able to go out and walk around, good to see everyone in mask and maintain good hygiene. Hope this goes over soon.

Still Stuck Working From Home

Now still stuck at home, HR required large majority of us to work from home unless there is very good reason not to, for example laptop spoil need to bring back for checkup, or any other duty that cannot be performed remotely. I think stay home too long also not good, does wear out a person after some time, not very good mentally and physically. Hope this whole thing gets over quickly and things can get back to normal soon, maybe planes start flying like normal, maybe can go take a short trip, maybe can go back to malls and have a nice meal, maybe can go do some shopping. But I suppose I'm considered very lucky, still have a job, no change to pay or anything, most people not so lucky, like my friend lost his job, then sometimes when I go on site for some duty, I took taxi then every driver told me how bad their day was, after paying rental and fuel most don't even earn and still make a loss. Well, just be happy, stay clean and stay safe.

Almost Two Months

It's been almost two months of staying-home-as-much-as-possible, phew. But actually in other ways it's also a good thing, don't go out, don't spend that much, also don't get sick at all, shows how much bacteria/virus is everywhere. 1st of Jun still don't know whether need to return to office or continue to work from home, I think have to wait for HR to announce. Everyone stay safe!

Circuit Breaker Extend to 01 Jun

https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/circuit-breaker-extended-four-weeks-june-1-pm-lee Wah lao eh, tahan for almost one month now say want to extend, now even tighter controls, go buy thing only one person can go, basically forget about any outdoor family activities. But it's good, one time jia lat jia lat better than more jia lat in the long run, hope this storm blows over soon, but I think even as the numbers come down, I don't think should resume normal activities immediately, still must slowly relax, cannot one shot relax. Businesses jia lat lor, I doubt the measures can help much if no crowd, especially those retail business that rely on crowd, I think by now mostly already close down.

Contactless Delivery, Such Nonsense

Prior to this covid situation, delivery used to be when the rider arrive, they will make a phone call, knock on door or yell, the purpose is to notify the customer that the order has arrived. Now, they just dump it somewhere you can't see and then quietly left! I encountered two such incidents, one this very morning. Previously ordered some western food from deliveroo, the guy simply left it outside my door, no call, never knock door, never make any sound, just left it there and go, we know because my wife was sitting at living room waiting. After waiting for a long time, I contacted deliveroo, they resent the order, then the next rider found the first delivery outside my door and informed me, ended up I have two orders. This morning ordered breakfast from Mcdonald, left a note telling them to leave it on my doorstep and door is open, supposed to arrive at 11:45am, 12+ still haven't arrive, call them again and they say instead of breakfast, they will resend lunch. Finally

Seems to be Getting More Serious

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/record-447-new-coronavirus-cases-in-spore-of-which-404-are-linked-to-dormitories https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/covid-19-728-more-cases-singapore-which-654-are-dorms Looks like the covid situation is getting worse here, from 15 Apr 447 new cases to 16 Apr 728 new cases, just one day 62.86% increase, wow, my annual increment is not even that much. https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/covid-19-nearly-50-people-be-fined-not-wearing-masks-public-places And government is taking this very seriously, they actually started to fine people for not wearing mask, and also fine those who breached safe distancing rules. I think everybody got to take this seriously from now on, it is for everybody's own protection. Tomorrow hope the number of new cases will go down, if still continue to spike, I think until 4 May also not enough, may even need to extend to mid of May or worse, into June. At this kind of time, really good to know SG have th

Ban on Social Gathering

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/covid-19-social-gatherings-private-and-public-moh-12617800 Just read this news today, like really read the details, have seen it but didn't notice the impact. Wonder if I can still bring wife and baby for walk, will it break the law? Same household though, I mean stay home all the time also not very healthy, need to still go out for walks, exercise. Anyway tighter controls also good, because looks like recently the spread is getting worse, 200 over cases in one day. Now I go out also a bit scared, wonder who is infected who is not, those who are infected better don't go out at all.

Ghost Town

Today went to Chinatown area to get daily necessities such as shampoo and shower foam, usually we buy at myCK, but surprising it is not open, but good thing the store above it is open, so managed to get the products that we need, pricing is similar to myCK. After that went to Chinatown Complex to see if we can get some food, the shops below all closed, like a ghost town, but if go above, a lot of the food stalls are opened but not many customers, nobody dine there because not allowed so all takeaway. I bought half a duck for S$20, usually I think is S$17-S$19, also bought some chwee kueh, 4 pieces for S$2. This will go on for a month until 4 May, wonder how these stalls survive.

Today Started to Work from Home

With the government announcing a slew of measures last week , my company started the work from home policy today, actually even before government announce, my company already told everyone to start today, previously there was the team A and team B segregation, now is everyone work from home. Actually last week already started for me, I feel that working from home seems to be more productive, as in no need to travel to and fro, that already saved me around 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. I wake up, brush teeth, immediately can start work, usually I wake up around 7 AM, now I wake up a bit later at 7:30 AM. So today managed to get a lot of things done, and have a lot more time with family, more time for rest, same amount of work or maybe even more was done, I like working from home. If have meeting or need to travel to customer site, then just go and then come back home straight, really good. Anyway this will last until 04 May at least, hope the virus stop spreading. Everyone stay

Suddenly So Much Activity Going On

Yesterday heard my friends saying our prime minister will announce something at 4PM regarding the virus, after that all sorts of speculation started flying around. I wasn't taking much notice because I still have to go to data centre to check some issue, stuck down there until 9PM+. Anyway today went online to see what happened yesterday, wow so much new information, don't know where to start. So I went to gov.sg instead, thought I might get something useful there, indeed found this link that pretty much summarised everything:  https://www.gov.sg/article/covid-19-updates-and-announcements I outlined the following for convenience: Kindergarten closure from 8 April 2020 until 4 May 2020: https://www.ecda.gov.sg/PressReleases/Pages/Advisory-to-Parents-Keeping-Our-Children-Safe-Against-COVID-19-Preschools-to-suspend-general-services.aspx No IPPT, no ICT, until 4 May 2020: https://www.mindef.gov.sg/web/portal/mindef/news-and-events/latest-releases/article-detail/2020/April

Wah This Amos Yee, Now PhD in Child Predatorial Science

Source He went to overseas to make Singapore proud, now he become so (in)famous in US, even the major online platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Tweeter had to shut him down because he is simply too (in)famous. "I really love the thrill of voicing a controversial opinion that’s right and creating a huge buzz and discussion around it. You obviously see that from me when I decided to criticise religion and the Singapore Government while I was in Singapore, so paedophilia just seems like a natural extension of that in the US" Actually he can just say he is an attention whore, no need to talk until like so chim. He can also say he pleasure himself by pcc to children pictures, no need to use chim words like "paedophilia". "Now I know some of you might accuse me of ‘betraying’ Singapore, but that applies only if one has the obligation to care about a country just because they were born there, which they don’t, so sayonara friends" Good for him lor, k

Government Say PMD Ban Not Needed Right Now

Source But I think recently there are quite a number of accidents and even fatal accidents that went on the news, who knows how many others went unreported, doesn't mean it didn't happen because the news didn't cover it. Reminds me of a friend who works in a particular shipyard, he said there were accidents and even fatal ones that were only known to people who work inside the shipyard, well since the shipyard is a secured area, I guess the company is able to conceal from the public. Speaking of PMD, my daughter is going to K1 next year and I'm thinking of getting one for wife so she can ferry baby to school. I'm also considering getting a bicycle for myself so maybe some days we can go ride around, I can also exercise a bit at the same time. When I was younger, like 14+. I used to have a stunt bike, forgot the brand, bought it for S$350+ I think. Me and a couple friends used to ride around, night rides were especially thrilling haha, now older, not sure if

These Days Even a Stroll is Dangerous

With so many reports on PMD/PAB accidents in the news, when taking my daughter out for walks I have to be extra careful, I will look left, right, back and front, not just on the roads but even in my neighbourhood parks and walkways, actually I find roads to be less dangerous as long as we make use of zebra/pedestrian/overhead crossings, real danger are parks and walkways. And not just PMD/PAB, cyclists can be going too fast sometimes, even when there is a dismount and push sign, these riders just speed past anyway, I thought it's illegal to ride where there are such signs but they do it anyway. I wonder how effective these signs are when there are no enforcement, well I haven't never seen any enforcement in my area ever, not in the 5+ years I have stayed here, yeah occasionally there will be police patrol car driving up and go one round and that's it. Pigeon feeding too, if we don't get killed by these riders maybe some day we will get poisoned to death by pigeon dro

Went to Marina Square to See NDP Rehearsal

Image
Managed to get a view of the combat engineers floating platform, I used to be in the 35th Singapore Combat Engineers so this brings back a lot of memories. During my time it's not so advanced, have to manually build the platform part by part like building Lego, now it looks like 5 big trucks combined into one platform, all automated. Last time powered by tug boats to move around, now looks like the truck itself can control the movements. Now then realised actually very satki, definitely the coolest part of the entire NDP rehearsal but stand down there not easy, they probably have to stand there for hours.

Next Week Hari Raya Puasa

Today go Sheng Siong quite a big crowd, I see some Malays bringing never-before-seen type of trolleys that's about twice as wide as the NTUC one which I have, wonder where they bought it from, actually very good idea can buy lots of stuff. I find Hari Raya Puasa very similar to Chinese New Year, one week before the actual day people will start to stock up on drinks and food, but Hari Raya Puasa feels more crowded compared to CNY, maybe because these days CNY becoming less significant, for me CNY is just like any other holiday, I think younger generation don't really care so much now. Then nowadays groceries also can buy online so not much of a point to go buy at supermarket and squeeze with the crowd. If no crowd still not too bad, but if crowded it can be very hectic because people tend to rush around.
