19th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/15th-day-of-looking-for-job.html Yesterday I went for the "Interview 2", the guy called me up and scheduled a session. He was nice to take the time to explain how their organisation is structured, I think he is looking for someone to help his company do a transformation to keep up with current methodologies so that they can provide faster and cheaper service, told him I'm not suitable as I don't have that kind of experience, it sounded like a huge undertaking like a director level kind of job but I don't think he is going to pay me director level salary, it's way above my head. I must concede that looking for job is no joke, when I was holding a job, I thought looking for job is easy as pie, but the reality is totally different, it's actually quite stressful. Back in Apr, May and Jun very carefree, but when my brain switch to "looking for job" mode in Jul, the stress and self-doubt started to se

Thermal Throttling on 3060Ti

Image
Recently I noticed that my mouse cursor will lag a bit, and when I run Dota 2, and when there is too much activity on screen, it will crash to desktop. I thought a 1050 or 1060 would be able to easily run Dota 2, not to mention 3060Ti. Oh by the way it's the first time I try Dota 2, I actually played a lot of Dota 1 back in the day. Today I flipped over my CPU casing and saw a thick layer of dust at the bottom. I thought I cleaned it a couple of months ago, didn't expect the dust to accumulate so fast, I think every month have to clean once, where the heck did all the dust come from anyway.

15th Day of Looking for Job

Today went for 3 virtual interviews, even though virtual also damn shag, have to repeat the same thing lol. Interview 1 This one went pretty well, I think this one have chance because the job scope seems to be very suitable for me. The interviewers also very nice and started on time. This one is one of the biggest company in Singapore, I like this one. Interview 2 This guy made me wait for 11 minutes, when he finally came in, he said he got caught up with another meeting, then asked for my mobile number and said he will call me on Monday. I go google the company name and the Glassdoor reviews are very bad, probably not going to take this even if they offer. Interview 3 This one went quite awkward like the first Java developer role, I'm not suitable for the job, it's one of the earlier role that I applied but after that u-turn decided not to apply anymore because I think my coding not up to par, didn't expect them to grant an interview, but the interviewers are very nice tho

Completed All Python Tutorials

https://www.w3schools.com/python/default.asp I covered all the modules, have a good idea of what Python can do, the machine learning part too confusing for me so I just quickly go through. The Python MySQL is straightforward, just like plain old JDBC connection in Java. The Python MongoDB is quite straightforward, only difference is that MongoDB is a NoSQL database, rather than tables and rows in tabular form they call it collections and documents that comes in a form similar to JSON. Today I be taking a good rest for the 3 interviews tomorrow, after that maybe starting reading up on React, it's another popular thing that keeps popping up.

Finished Django Tutorial

https://www.w3schools.com/django/index.php "Django is a back-end server side web framework. Django is free, open source and written in Python. Django makes it easier to build web pages using Python." Django reminds me of JSP, JSTL and JPA, but more simpler to use and get it running, no wonder Python is so popular, I'm starting to like Python.

13th Day of Looking for Job

I must say looking for job also quite tiring, everyday check for suitable position and then apply, also have to handle the job recruiters who call to enquire, have to repeat the same thing because every time it is a different recruiter. Right now have 3 interviews scheduled for this Friday back-to-back, another 1 interview next week. I noticed that the recruiters mostly from overseas, Singapore afternoon time they greeted me good morning, mostly sounded like from India, sometimes a bit hard to understand their slang, India time is 2.5 hours slower than ours. I guess these days recruiters all outsourced overseas? Long long ago when I go through recruitment agency, it was a local recruitment company, have to go to their office to interview, after that go to the client's office to interview again. Recruiters seems to be a very competitive job, sibeh on, machiam like telemarketer, I guess they chiong for the commission, I know they get a cut for successful hire, not sure how much thoug

Typical Singapore Family Problem

https://theindependent.sg/woman-gives-mum-1600-monthly-but-mum-says-its-not-enough-complains-daughter-refuses-to-let-her-mum-retire https://www.whispers.sg/c/sgwhispers/posts/5342 The story first appeared in my Google news feed via The Independent Singapore, I also found the original publication at SGWhispers. I read this story with great interest because it reminded me of my own experience, how come as kids we are so happy and carefree, then after we grow up, things can change so drastically, family can be at each other's throat because of money. It's so difficult to say what is right and what is wrong, some can argue it's the parents responsibility to take care of children without expecting anything in return, or some can argue it should be the other way round, ultimately who is right? If you try to be "fair", then what is fair? Some may interpret it as "calculative", for example utilities bill is $200 a month, you have 4 "headcount" in the h

Finished SciPy Tutorial

Image
SciPy is Scientific Python, no idea what I am doing, got 72% for the quiz, most of it is hantam haha, not sure if I will be using this anytime soon, but good to know anyway.

12th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/looking-for-job.html During these 12 days, got plenty of calls from recruiters but only one interview. I posted my profile on MyCareersFuture, JobStreet, Indeed, Monster, also tried directly on a few company's career portal, thought I should cast a wide net. Last week I attended a Java developer lead virtual interview, did the technical assessment where they asked me to come up with a Spring Boot app based on a given scenario, I really struggled even translating the requirements into code and also realised my coding is quite bad, do refresher online versus coming up with an app is very different. By the way all the development work in my past projects were outsourced to overseas, basically I document the requirements from users and then I get developers to implement, so I don't get to code much, yeah I done some bug fixes and some small enhancements but it is nothing compared to coming up with something from scratch. I think i

Finished Pandas Tutorial

Image
Finally finished the Pandas tutorial and got a 92% for the quiz. This Pandas library is very simple and powerful for reading and analysing data files, can also clean and manipulate data files, also can use the Matplotlib library to plot data files. I think this will come in handy one day, now I can start to see why Python is so popular.
