Just Bought a New Computer

Image
Recently was looking for a new PC to replace my Hades Canyon which I bought in 2018 . I compared quite a few places like Aftershock, Mansa, Dreamcore, Lenovo, Dell, and finally decided to buy at Sim Lim Square because it is cheaper and no need to wait for months, also to clarify, the local ones no need to wait too long, only those big brands have months of waiting time due to part shortage. So these are the parts: INTEL I7-11700K S$559 (wanted 11700 but no stock) MSI H510I PRO WIFI S$235 (H7 Plus cpu cooler won't be able to fit in, blocked by the IO heatsink) T-FORCE VULCAN 3200MHZ 2x16GB CL16 S$210 SAMSUNG 980 500GB NVME M.2 S$112 GALAX RTX3060Ti (1-CLICK OC) 8GB (LHR) 8GB S$899 COOLERMASTER NR200P WHITE S$139 (wanted the NR200 but no stock) LIAN-LI SP750 SFX 80+GOLD S$159 CRYORIG H7 S$60 (wanted the H7 Plus but heng no stock) SICKLEFLOW 120 WHITE LED PWM S$15 (wanted 3 but I didn't say 3 so they ended up packing only one, heng because the NR200P comes with 2x120mm fans, but n

Logitech G304 (White) Arrived!

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/09/ordered-another-logitech-g304-white.html It arrived yesterday, comes with a free mouse pad too. The feel is a bit different than the black colour one, I think the material is a bit different, seems to give better grip but generally both my black and this white one is amazing, probably one of the best mouse ever made. It's got a really nice white colour, really love this mouse, very difficult to find a replacement I guess.

Finally Found the Cause to My Network Auto Disconnect

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/02/bought-ugreen-usb-30-to-rj45-gigabit.html https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/03/network-didnt-disconnect-any-more.html I notice my network card sometimes auto switch between 100Mbps and 1.0Gbps, every time it does that, the network will be disconnected and then connected. This is happening regardless of using the UGREEN adapter or the built-in network card. Then I realise it could be an issue with the ethernet cable, too long or maybe it's dangling and affecting the quality or cables are just shit quality? Really no idea why. Last time I used a 20m CAT6 , then changed to a 15m CAT7 , I'm just guessing it's too long, it's running from my main door to my room so it's quite a distance. Good thing my Hades Canyon comes with Wifi, I just moved my router more centrally and now I'm using Wifi, seems to be more stable but of course not going to be as fast as 1Gbps, most importantly it doesn't switch a

Ordered Another Logitech G304 (White)

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2018/11/bought-new-mouse-g304-and-keyboard-akb55.html https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2018/11/logitech-g304-and-targus-akb55-update.html Looking for something to replace my G603 because I find it kind of heavy, it's still good though but sometimes the scrolling a bit siao siao, it's like that and that and I decided use that as an excuse to just buy a new mouse, or you can call it buying on a whim haha. So I was trying to decide between G304 which is amazing, I'm still using it, tested and proven, or the Razer Orochi V2 which is newer and have really solid reviews. Price-wise the G304 is S$79.00 and the Orochi V2 is S$104.90. Then I found that the G304 is selling at S$55 on Lazada, like that no need to think already, that means for the price of Orochi V2 I can buy two G304. If you are interested, this is the link .

M1 500Mbps Fibre Broadband Plan @ S$29.90

Yesterday my M1 broadband plan contract ended, so today I called up their customer service to check if the price of S$29.90 will remain the same, the service staff said it will follow the existing 500Mbps plan of S$29.90 which means for me it will remain the same. The staff mentioned that other than the S$29.90, there will be a monthly charge of S$8.00 for the SurfValue Plan, it is a mobile broadband SIM card that came with the fibre broadband. So I asked to cancel it and the staff mentioned it will take effect within 2 hours and reflect in next month's bill. By the way this M1 fibre broadband is actually for my parents, it is installed at their house, if can keep as no contract better because in 2023 we will probably move to Tengah.

Bought iPad (8th generation - 32 GB - A2270 - Silver) for Wife

Image
The price on apple's website is S$499.00 but I bought it at Courts for S$488. The salesperson signed me up for the Courts membership which is free, and instantly applied an S$11 discount. It also just happened to be the last piece, and only left silver colour, geez this iPad 8th Gen so popular or what. Actually last weekend I went to Challenger to buy but out of stock, so I guess it's really popular. I also bought a casing from them for S$49, somehow they also included a 3-piece "SoundTeoh KA3-2 Key Plug" for S$1 which I didn't need but I think good to have; the iPad itself comes with a 3-pin plug and a usb-c to lightning cable so don't really need the key plug. Unfortunately they don't sell screen protector for the iPad, but fortunately just right beside their store have a good ol' trusty handphone shop. So I bought the iPad's screen protector + replace my own iPhone 8's casing + replace my own iPhone 8's screen protector for a total of S$

Switched to Giga Today

I received the SIM cards for myself and my wife today, one guy sent it to our home in the morning, just put it into our phones and activate using the Giga app, no hassle. So I expect to be able to save S$22 a month by switching, previously me and my wife's bill total is S$50. Thinking of getting a S$10 plan for daughter but I think she is too young to hold a mobile phone. These days so many choices for mobile plans, life getting better.

Just Know About Giga Today

Image
Today my colleague told me about this mobile operator named "Giga", he also told me it's actually under Starhub, then I took a look at their plans, first thing coming to my mind is bloody hell kena conned or what, or maybe I'm just super outdated. Anyway I have two sim only lines under Starhub, S$25 each so total S$50 a month. The data is 5GB + 10GB (for 12 months) with 100 minutes outgoing and 100 SMS. Strangely already more than 12 months but they still give me the extra 10GB but I guess it is because they know I'm paying more! So I signed up via the Giga app for the S$10 plan for myself, and a S$18 plan for my wife. I don't use much data so 6GB is way more than enough for me. But still find this quite unbelievable, how come they are running Starhub mobile plans and this Giga plans in parallel, just kind of don't make sense because who would pay more for way less features, those on sim only plans like me or those contract finish or going to finish surel

Wow, Netflix is Incredible

Decided to try out Netflix today, been looking at it for quite some time but can't decide whether to try or not, and since it has a free 30 days "free look" period, why not. I must say I am very impressed with their system, very simple, extremely user friendly, and it's got so many movies and shows that I have never even heard of. So now I'm watching this Korean series "Sweet Home", great quality. I can see why Netflix is so popular.

Network Didn't Auto Disconnect Any More

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/02/hades-canyon-overheating-fixed.html Previously I thought it was the thermal throttling that was causing my network cards to auto disconnect, in the end it was the router, it was running DHCP, so daily the lease will expire, so I set to 365 days, now my network doesn't auto disconnect any more. But well at least whatever I did also helped to make the my Hades Canyon less hot which is good, so when gaming it feels smoother. Mine is a Linksys router, so I set the "Client lease time" to "525600" which is one year and the maximum possible value. So if your network also keep auto disconnecting, you can try to set your DHCP lease longer.

Hades Canyon Overheating Fixed?

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/02/thermal-throttling-on-my-hades-canyon.html https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/02/bought-ugreen-usb-30-to-rj45-gigabit.html I tried replacing the thermal paste with a cheapo thermal paste, also tried buy an external network card, unfortunately the CPU temperature still shoots up to 90+ sometimes even 100 when gaming, then the network will auto shutdown, even the external network port will auto shutdown too. Since today on leave, thought I might as well try a few more things, first is to clean the fans and also make sure the chasis is clean too, realise the fans are damn dirty, see before and after cleaning. Just use a normal cotton bud will do, when the bud breaks off it's actually even better. Well after cleaning the fans didn't help, temperature is still crazy. So I went into BIOS and changed a few things. Under the "Cooling" tab, I changed: Fan Control Mode: Custom Fan off capability: don't tick P

Bought a UGREEN USB 3.0 to Rj45 Gigabit Adapter

Image
https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/02/thermal-throttling-on-my-hades-canyon.html Previously I thought the cheap thermal paste fixed my CPU thermal throttling problem, but it didn't, my network card still auto shutdown for a while when my CPU gets hot, very annoying especially when playing games halfway and suddenly disconnect. But at least now it seems to detect the temperature better and fans kick up more responsively so it happen less, again not sure if it's an illusion. Then I googled for USB to RJ45 adapter and saw this UGREEN product, so I thought I would give it a try, not expensive so might as well. Ordered last Friday and received today, seems like nowadays Amazon delivery is much faster. It comes in a sleek and slim packaging, works right out of the box for my Windows 10. It also comes with a driver CD for older Windows OS, Mac OS and Linux. The design feels sturdy, doesn't feel cheap at all, the port also snaps in nicely unlike some other cheapo USB

Thermal Throttling on My Hades Canyon

Bought my Hades Canyon in 2018 , only open up to clean the dust and didn't replace the thermal paste at all. So these few months I noticed that if I play games, the network card will suddenly just turn off by itself, I thought it's the network card faulty or maybe it's the ethernet cable but confirm is not ISP because my wife and daughter have no issue with their mobile devices. At one point I even replaced the ethernet cable to my room because I thought the cable was faulty but it didn't solve the problem, now that I think of it, I don't think there is anything wrong with the cable. Only these few days then I realise that the network card will auto switch off when the temperature of my CPU go too high like 80+ to 90+, I thought this temperature is normal during load so that's why it didn't dawn on me, I also thought the network card is a separate piece so I didn't think if the CPU throttle, the network card will shut down. So I thought maybe I can try r

Bought JBL TUNE 700BT S$119

Previously bought the JBL Tune 500BT and it was really good for the price and I love it, now still using it. The reason why I decided to buy one more headphone is more for office use, because HR required us to put on earphones when conferencing. So the 500BT I will bring to office, then at home I will use the 700BT haha. Anyway I think major difference between the 500BT and 700BT is the battery life, 500BT can last up to 16 hours whereas the 700BT can last up to 27 hours. Another difference is the ear pads, 700BT have a much more comfortable ear pads as it almost covers the ears; the pads are bigger. Lastly the 700BT have an audio jack and comes with an audio cable which I probably won't use but good to have just in case. If you don't own either one and thinking of getting one, I recommend the 700BT, if on budget, the 500BT is really good too.

Amazon Prime After 3 Months (From Starhub)

http://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2020/04/amazon-prime-from-starhub.html After holding the free membership for 3 months, I didn't really make much use of it, only thing I did was watch movies on primevideo.com. The speed is fast, video loads instantly, just like watching YouTube. The selection is kind of limited though, mostly old movies, they don't have the latest movies, I think there are quite some drama series up there but I don't like dramas, too draggy for me, so I can't say whether the dramas are good or not. There are also Hindi movies, cartoons, but I don't watch. My daughter don't watch too, she likes YouTube more. I just saw the bill for this month, they are charging me S$2.99 for the membership now, I think I will just terminate the membership, it's cheap but I don't feel there's much to make use of for me. By the way I can't find any link to terminate Amazon Prime on the Starhub website, but I found it in the app: Under your

Starhub Modification Fee

Image
Recently recontracted my 1Gbps fibre to 500Mbps, then in my bill I saw this extra S$30 charge: I called Starhub 1633 and they told me recontract also count as modification, so there is a S$30 charge (with GST is S$32.10). Wtf? Anyway just pay la. But expected la, if downsize they need to earn a bit back, if upsize then they give discount, normal.

Amazon Prime (From Starhub)

When I changed my Starhub XS plan to no sim , they gave me a free 3 months Amazon Prime membership. Note that it is for amazon.sg, not for amazon.com, even though my amazon account is same but the region is different, so is the prime membership. So today happened to need to get a new ethernet cable, so might as well make use of the free membership. By the way it is not auto-activated, need to manually activate it. They will send a SMS to your mobile number with this link: http://mystarhub.page.link/AmazonPrime Then on your mobile, you need to have the Starhub app, click the link, it will open up the page to activate it. Or you can also manually go your Starhub app, under the mobile number with the Amazon prime offer, go to Add-ons > Featured Services > Amazon Prime > Manage. Then you have the option to subscribe for the mobile number that you want. After that just login to your amazon.sg account, you will see you now have prime membership, something like this: Hello AB
