Nice Increment and Bonus

So this year increment and bonus still not bad considering bonus is prorated because I rejoined last year Jul. Increment is about 2.66%, bonus is prorated based on 1.5 months, I think they prorate the bonus by working day based on 5-day work week, I managed to derive the exact value using the formula from below website. https://dollarsandsense.sg/business/how-to-prorate-annual-bonus-and-performance-bonus-for-your-new-employees I also didn't expect any increment or bonus, feel kind of overpaid haha, and since I didn't have any expectation so this increment and bonus came as a nice surprise, I learnt to not expect too much so I don't get disappointed much. And just realised I didn't update my increment and bonus for 2022, I didn't get any increment in 2022 because in 2021 I got a pretty significant raise, as for bonus same as this year also 1.5. Anyway ok la, these days I don't worry much about all these increment and bonus, have job is good already, wife and daug

8th Day of Going Back to Work

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/back-to-work.html So far everything seems to be great, but have a feeling my current supervisor a bit not happy because my headcount is under this supervisor's department but I'm currently helping out another project in another department. And I tend to be quite serious at work so people who have not worked with me might not be used to it and think I'm anti-social haha. Also never join the department for lunch, so far only lunch with ex-project members from other departments, aiyah but I think all these small matters, in future if get to work closer then can lunch together, they surely have their own lunch kakis anyway. Today a guy from this "another department" told me this month end or maybe early next month have to travel overseas, I think good chance to go out and gain more experience, it will be my first overseas assignment, feel a bit sua ku, but still don't know go there do what or go how long.

Back to Work

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/monday-sign-letter-of-offer.html I rejoined my ex-company this week, feel as if never left, it's as if I just came back from a long weekend, obvious difference is have to start all over again in terms of year(s) of service and bonus/leave pro-rated but that doesn't bother me at all. But I'm quite surprised that colleagues are all very nice and welcoming especially the bosses are super nice, I guess the good thing about this company is the people, which I think is very important, not much internal politics, mostly external politics. Now I'm under another supervisor but same big boss, cool, easy-going, doesn't put on airs or anything, previous one was equally good too, people are nice in this company, just the customers sometimes overbearing, and the projects too jia lat, but I heard my past projects are doing better now, maybe it's because I left lol. And now that Covid is kind of endemic in Singapore, a lot of

Monday Sign Letter of Offer

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/22nd-day-of-looking-for-job.html Tomorrow late afternoon go office sign the letter of offer from my ex-company, so fast so furious, this ex-boss damn powerful, say offer really offer the next day; met him on Thursday night, then Friday afternoon the HR called me to confirm the offer, sent me email and I acknowledged via email. No need interview, no need probation, only first 3 months take leave will be counted as no-pay leave, pay a bit higher than before, other than that the benefits all same as before, pretty good I guess. The HR will most probably ask me when I can start work, actually I can start anytime, rest too long also starting to get a bit bo liao.

22nd Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/20th-day-of-looking-for-job.html Yesterday went for the second interview for "Interview 1". It went well. A few hours later while on the way to meet my ex-boss, the recruiter called me to confirm that it is positive, and also the HR of the company will contact me soon, ask for my certs and whatnot, then they will make an offer. I told the recruiter I meeting my ex-boss for dinner, maybe he interested to rehire me, she told me if ex-boss offer, don't accept too fast, compare "Interview 1" vs ex-boss offer. Went for dinner with ex-boss, turned out to be 2 hours Omakase dinner, catch up, talk about new trends, some history, pointed out my strength and weakness, discuss why I left, what will happen if I rejoin, overseas assignment, at the same time crafting and polishing the offer on the spot and asked me how much I want lol. I thought he should be asking what is my expected salary like every other recruiter, I a b

20th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/19th-day-of-looking-for-job.html Due to the very bad Glassdoor reviews on the company of "Interview 2", I went to LinkedIn to search for the company, LinkedIn have this feature where it will show the current and past employees, and one of the past employees happen to be someone I know and get along pretty well from my previous company. So I messaged this ex-colleague to find out more about the company, this ex-colleague told me the company in a mess now don't try. That explains why the Glassdoor reviews are so bad. Not that every other company don't have its fair share of bad reviews but this one is particularly glaring, I actually got a bit frightened. After that we chatted a bit more, then this ex-colleague happen to have a position for me, and it's something that interests me, so I thought no harm trying. Then this ex-colleague went to speak to my ex-boss, the one who gave me a huge increment out of nowhere,

19th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/15th-day-of-looking-for-job.html Yesterday I went for the "Interview 2", the guy called me up and scheduled a session. He was nice to take the time to explain how their organisation is structured, I think he is looking for someone to help his company do a transformation to keep up with current methodologies so that they can provide faster and cheaper service, told him I'm not suitable as I don't have that kind of experience, it sounded like a huge undertaking like a director level kind of job but I don't think he is going to pay me director level salary, it's way above my head. I must concede that looking for job is no joke, when I was holding a job, I thought looking for job is easy as pie, but the reality is totally different, it's actually quite stressful. Back in Apr, May and Jun very carefree, but when my brain switch to "looking for job" mode in Jul, the stress and self-doubt started to se

15th Day of Looking for Job

Today went for 3 virtual interviews, even though virtual also damn shag, have to repeat the same thing lol. Interview 1 This one went pretty well, I think this one have chance because the job scope seems to be very suitable for me. The interviewers also very nice and started on time. This one is one of the biggest company in Singapore, I like this one. Interview 2 This guy made me wait for 11 minutes, when he finally came in, he said he got caught up with another meeting, then asked for my mobile number and said he will call me on Monday. I go google the company name and the Glassdoor reviews are very bad, probably not going to take this even if they offer. Interview 3 This one went quite awkward like the first Java developer role, I'm not suitable for the job, it's one of the earlier role that I applied but after that u-turn decided not to apply anymore because I think my coding not up to par, didn't expect them to grant an interview, but the interviewers are very nice tho

13th Day of Looking for Job

I must say looking for job also quite tiring, everyday check for suitable position and then apply, also have to handle the job recruiters who call to enquire, have to repeat the same thing because every time it is a different recruiter. Right now have 3 interviews scheduled for this Friday back-to-back, another 1 interview next week. I noticed that the recruiters mostly from overseas, Singapore afternoon time they greeted me good morning, mostly sounded like from India, sometimes a bit hard to understand their slang, India time is 2.5 hours slower than ours. I guess these days recruiters all outsourced overseas? Long long ago when I go through recruitment agency, it was a local recruitment company, have to go to their office to interview, after that go to the client's office to interview again. Recruiters seems to be a very competitive job, sibeh on, machiam like telemarketer, I guess they chiong for the commission, I know they get a cut for successful hire, not sure how much thoug

12th Day of Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/07/looking-for-job.html During these 12 days, got plenty of calls from recruiters but only one interview. I posted my profile on MyCareersFuture, JobStreet, Indeed, Monster, also tried directly on a few company's career portal, thought I should cast a wide net. Last week I attended a Java developer lead virtual interview, did the technical assessment where they asked me to come up with a Spring Boot app based on a given scenario, I really struggled even translating the requirements into code and also realised my coding is quite bad, do refresher online versus coming up with an app is very different. By the way all the development work in my past projects were outsourced to overseas, basically I document the requirements from users and then I get developers to implement, so I don't get to code much, yeah I done some bug fixes and some small enhancements but it is nothing compared to coming up with something from scratch. I think i

Looking for Job

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/06/no-news-from-binance.html Today is 1st of July, still no news from Binance, no point waiting. Yesterday night I turned on my Jobstreet profile and also my profile on MyCareersFuture.gov.sg so that employers can search for my profile. Anyway I applied for a few jobs on MyCareersFuture, see how it goes.

I am Unemployed

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2022/03/long-time-never-post.html Earlier on I mentioned that I throw letter, now I have finished serving my notice and I am officially unemployed! Feels really good not having to work, like a huge rock off my chest, especially when my job is kind of toxic, I shall not elaborate since it's all over now. I spent my first day of unemployment waking up together with my daughter early in the morning and then going for a run, the morning air feels really good. After that I updated my resume with all the sh** that I have done, always good to be ready, anyway my resume looks kind of impressive, looking back at all the various sh** jobs I have done, have a sense of achievement haha. I have no concrete plan for now, will probably continue to wake up early, go for run, trade crypto, learn web3 stuff, been wanting to play with blockchain and smart contract. Wife and daughter wants to go visit grandmother (wife's mom), I still have not decided wh

Got a Huge Increment Out of Nowhere

So last month I throw letter, then last week boss called me in to talk, then today boss told me HR will send me a letter regarding my salary increment, and today HR really send, I can see this boss really have a lot of clout in the company, he can make things happen, definitely not the talk-only type, so fast so furious. Last week he told me around 20-25% increment, this week immediately increase by 23%, really speechless and surprised, never encounter something like this before, but I really appreciate that they recognise the effort I put in, it's not easy to find a company which knows how to appreciate staff, oh man, want to run also not so easy now... hopefully the company will go in exciting directions, if new things to learn then can stay long. Still find it unbelievable, like seriously wtf.

Not Sure If This is a Counteroffer...

https://marrythaigirlsingapore.blogspot.com/2021/09/finally-throw-letter.html Last week I submitted my resignation, the standard things happened, my supervisor talked to me to find out more about my reasons for leaving, after some discussion I was sure about leaving even though I told him I didn't have a job waiting because I wanted to take a 1-2 months break, I wasn't hesitant or anything, then he told me big boss wanted to speak to me, yeah why not, big boss willing to take the time to speak to a staff is always a good thing. So today big boss called me in, had a lengthy chat, like really lengthy that he pretty much talked for 2-3 hours nonstop explaining many whys that I didn't really raise officially but deep inside was unhappy about, I don't think he can read my mind, most likely he already knows these problems, and he shared that there are plans in motion to change things, which is a good sign. Seriously, if the big boss doesn't realise and acknowledge the pro

Finally Throw Letter

After several bouts of procrastination, today I finally ride on a trigger to throw the letter. It was nothing negative or what, not an outburst or anything, just making use of a chance to throw the letter, have to be pissed off but not too pissed off, have to be careful not to ruin any relationship, throw letter also need technique and timing haha. Somehow I feel really relieved for doing so, it's like getting rid of a huge rock off my chest, bet I can finally sleep well tonight, I mean can you imagine after work or during weekends or public holidays you still have work stuff buzzing in your head, it's crazy. And of course I didn't get a job before I throw, I only had 5 days of rest from my last job to current job, so getting a job first is definitely not in my plan, was thinking of catching a 1-2 months break to refresh myself before I start looking for a job. Also I can bring my daughter to school everyday, sometimes I just feel kind of guilty like I get lost at work, com

Going for Cloud Certification

By the way I'm still in the same company, still haven't throw letter yet because I remember that during one interview several years back, a wise HR personnel asked me if I tried asking for internal transfer, actually I did but my boss in my previous company outright told me not possible without even trying. So what I did now was I emailed to HR directly to indicate my interest to transfer to a more technical position, but this time more special is because the boss in the department that I wanted to transfer to already told me he is ready to take me in anytime but the catch is I need to raise to HR in my own capacity without mentioning him as poaching in the company is not allowed. Now just waiting for the transfer to be official, also confirmed this with HR again. But this new future boss requires me to go for cloud certification, not just me, I think the direction is all staff under him have to go, anyway some already went and gotten themselves certified. Talking about exam, I

I Actually Got Promoted

Today boss gave out the appraisal letter, bonus is 1.75, 0.25 more than last year , didn't expect that at all, thought this year bonus going to be really bad or none at all because last year was undoubtedly a very bad year for all sectors. Then increment is about 9.09%, which is a tiny bit higher than last year, also didn't expect that at all, thought maybe 3-5%. So seems like both bonus and increment are above my expectation, I mean last year was really a terrible year and my project was burning crispy so I wasn't expecting much. And, I also got promoted, maybe that's why the increment is pushed higher due to this, but I really don't see how the new title will change anything, all along I feel like a one man team, everything have to do myself, give me a managerial title not sure what's the point, who am I managing? myself? Jeez. Or Chief Executive Officer of Myself? Seriously. I mean in my previous company, when a person holds a managerial title, that person is

New Year New Resolution New Job?

This month going to get bonus and increment, today went for appraisal, not too good, not too bad, and I notice there is one statement about my general discipline needing improvement, not sure in particular which episode it is referring to, probably all maybe that's why it's "general", I guess it's because I shot back at my useless project managers several times, also shot back at the GovTech clowns a few times, for me very simple, if you come to me with unreasonable crap, don't expect me to return kindly, especially when I'm very busy, seriously I didn't have the time nor energy to entertain these clowns. Other than that black dot, my boss mentioned and penned down that I "saved" the project a few times, but I think he's just putting in nice words so I won't throw letter, I'm just doing what is supposed to be done, as with any other projects, the real problem with my project is team members have a gross lack of skill set and learn

Cold Calls from Recruitment Firms

Recently received quite a number of calls from recruitment companies, I already set my jobstreet profile to private so I don't think they got my details from there. So I asked one of them how they managed to get my profile, the guy told me they have it in their system from last year, told him currently not looking for job, he then asked me if I have any friend to recommend can call him. Sounds like they are getting desperate, digging through old profiles and making cold calls, machiam telemarketing. Anyway I have been working in current company for slightly over 2 years now, the project that I am working on has recently launched, no doubt very buggy but at least didn't have to rollback which we almost did due to some missing migrated data, luckily managed to discover and fix it and go ahead to rollout. Still many outstanding problems though but I suppose it's only natural, new system sure have teething issues, maybe another 6 months to 1 year it should stabilise. I saw this

Damn Super Busy Recently

Now getting more and more busy, most weekends also have to go back to office, damn tired, so fast getting to the end of the year, phew, time flies. Hopefully this month can launch the project, so maybe will slow down the pace a bit, hopefully, but realistically I don't think it will slow down much because new system usually start with many problems, we can only try to minimise the risk, can't be perfect or wait for stars to align, there's a saying, keep the ball rolling. I think I will be stuck in this current project for at least a few more months, but doesn't matter to me as long as the pay is good, it is pretty good, hopefully next year bonus will be good too. Anyway good luck to all and stay safe!
